That poor r9 290X , that card is still insanely capable considering it's like 5 years old by now and even it's little brother the r9 290 can still perform really well provided you have an after market model with a good cooler on it.

Hell its amazing what can be done on cards from 2008 let alone 2011, even the hd 7770 is still a pretty decent gaming card though it has limitations with its 1gb of vram 2gb model if you are very lucky but they are pretty rare on ebay. *Far far easier to get the 2gb r7 260x which is slightly tweaked version.
Devinport I got one, i love it even though its the reference model which is hot and loud
Yeah, I just upgraded from it to a 1070, mine had some issues though, and always ran at 90c+ despite having a good aftermarket cooler.

Hey it works for him no need to upgrade, always remember while its fun to get new hardware if your system meets your needs and your happy playing whatever you play why change.

The r9 290x is just a legend. I'm fortunate mine works so well and surprisingly cool for a reference version. Still so happy with it, no real need to upgrade it yet. Hope you can get a working one soon.
It is a great card. Hawaii still performs amazingly. Maybe one day I’ll have a working one 🙏
I kinda miss when gpus had goofy graphics on the fan shrouds
Also when you do buy a xeon for it watch out for voltage spikes when overclocking it, another youtuber had his die out of nowhere on a 4 ghz overclock with a fairly mild voltage increase.

I`m curious about the Quadro FX5800 and where it stands.
I am still using the motherboard the asus p7p55d pro inn my secound system that still is runing with a i7 870 with 4x2GB of corsair dominator memory and a gtx960 i orignaly had a GTX470 inn the system, but time passed
no disappointment even almost of the cards had been dead for awhile now. Great find tho!
I always wonder how cards get so beat up. That FX 3800 i guess wasn't the only one that was abused.

I have that same gigabyte card but the 7970 version. It was mining in a 5 gpu rig I had going and one day the whole rig turned off. I turned it on and POOF! Big fireball from the backside of the card. One of the mosfets exploded. Checked around on Reddit, apparently it has happened to alot of people. I think the older gigabyte cards are poor quality!!
On the gtx275 co op just do a bios mod with lower clocks on the memory, my first 9800gt had this problem and I kept it like that for a year and got a gts250 with better cooling with the rma or whatever...
maybe the problem with the cards is shorted components or something that can be replaced with some soldering skills
if it doesnt power on at all its a good sign that the problem isnt necessarily the gpu/memory solder joints

you can find tutorials on how to find shorting caps/vrms and things like that

Shame that the r9 290x doesn't work, guess you tried the bios switch as well on the card ?
Wonder if either of those coolers either the 7950 or the 290x could be mounted on a card like a hd 5770 or similar lower tdp card & run it passively cooled or close too that.
Not sure that it would work on something that old, but I might try to see if I can install on my 7970.

Fastest and agp in the same sentence = be prepared to spend a lot of money.
Honestly not sure for Mac compatible cards (maybe 3850/4670) I’m sure you could find your answer in some Apple based forums. Like Kirby said, it probably wouldn’t be cheap.
Yo, are you still doing this? Looking for old cards? Because my dad was an engineer and he died last year. He's got some old GPU's that I couldn't throw away. I know theres some shitty old quadro down there. Lemme know. I promise it's nothing as nice as most of those.
