I do want Chellsie to be in the Olympic team for Tokio, but to be honest it is very unlikely ... but i think Worlds 2021 can be her goal and that can be very very likely assuming many from the Olympic team will take a brake
I believe she grew to around 161cm because that was her reported height since she and her husband when sorta viral for the height gap (he is like 190cm tall) For reference, she grew to be taller than Nastia.
Growth spurts can be hard on a gymnast or any athlete. As a former competitive figure skater, I hit 2 growth in a 12 year period, my body started to develop differently, I had padding in places I didnt before. The frst injuries I had didn't heal overnight like they used to. During those times, it was hard to do any of the skills I was able to before the last development. A good friend of mine is a gymnast and she stands at 5’7 and she says it was so difficult on her body that she had to constantly change her training, techniques in order to figure out the best way to perform. She cannot do certain elements because she is too tall. She has to be mindful of her legs on bars, she had to find more graceful ways to appear on floor. Yes, puberty is normal, but it can change a person's performance.
It's even a bit more ridiculous that Chellsie Memmel tried to come back again in 2021. Yes, she was an elite gymnast once and she will always have those accomplishments, but I'm not sure what she thought she'd be able to accomplish at the US National Championships. And how does someone who hasn't competed in 9 years get an invite to the US Classic?
Why so catty and hateful? This is why people can't take gymnastics seriously, it's because everyone is so catty. The fact that she's the age that she is and can still move like that and has the guts to compete with people so much younger is amazing. Her competing doesn't affect you in the least
I’m sorta baffled by the attitude that someone belongs on a team based solely on past performance. It’s a *competition*. If an athlete fails to place, the spot should go to someone who was successful. (Hence the idea of COMPETITION). People act like that spot *belongs* to one individual but what about the athlete who was successful in the competition? The athlete who EARNED that spot? They don’t count because of someone who was successful in prior years? No. The reason we have competition is to give team spots to people who earned them. Athletes are supposed to be equal going into the meet-so win or lose the rules apply to everyone.
She hasnt competed 1 time nor have any full routines yet, WHAT COMEBACK ACTUALLY? Shall we post training videos of isolated skills and say WATCH HER COMEBACK? Once we see her actually compete if that even happens, then the comeback is official. Isolated skills, and training, with so many variables that can happen to someone, its training for a comeback, First day of competition =COMEBACK.

"Unfortunately she struggled with a growth spurt." Puberty is a normal part of life, it's not unfortunate.
It is but can be devastating for gymnasts. So yes normal but it can be unfortunate for some gymnasts as it effects some more than others.
The unfortunate part is the struggle, not the growth
