The parallels between Blackpink solos and aespa solos is chilling. It's crazy how every episode of the BP Olympics reminds me of actions/ behaviors of aespa solos. They have to be the most insufferable breed of people since the upcoming of BP solos. The point that got to me the most was how good Jisoo solos were with being so despicable. Facts, I was waiting for someone to mention it. They pity stanned Chaeryeong into a more popular idol and it's kinda sad if you think about it. Jisoo is my ult of Ults but it’s mostly because of her personality. The other reason is her talent. I couldn’t care less about the visual position or debate because literally every idol’s popularity and appeal is due in part to their visuals for better or worse whether they are the visual or not
Jisoo is also my ULT and it is because she has a beautiful husky voice. I find all of the Blackpink members very pretty, but Jisoo’s voice stood out to me the most.

I love this sentiment! On one hand, you have groups that you tend to steer clear of because their fans are batshit crazy. I didn’t get into Enhypen until just recently because of their delulu fans. I’m usually late to the party when it comes to SKZ stuff because I don’t want to say something that’ll piss off Stays. On the other, there are some groups where you stan the fandom as much as the group. got7 and Agases, MCND and Gems, Kard and Hidden Kard, Astro and Arohas, Monsta X and Monbebes. God, I love Monbebes.
While I do agree with a lot of the arguments mentioned and I found it really interesting to get an insight into the earlier stages of the fandom as someone who joined a bit later, I feel like the evolution of this solo fandom is a bit incomplete. I for one don’t think it should be claimed that Jisoo solo stands (real or pretend ones) were the people edited MR removed videos as those channels posted multiple groups and not just Blackpink so it is unclear which fandoms they belong to and what underlying motives they had. However, what I find even more important to mention is that the change in Jisoo‘s solo fandom after 2020 is not included at all in this video. I myself became a fan of Jisoo during 2019 so I do remember the alleged favorite position that she had among non Blackpink fans but the change of who her solo fandom consisted out of surely happend in late 2020/2021. one reason was her lead role in snowdrop, which made her gain many fans that were attracted to her through her acting and didn’t start out as blinks and often stayed fans of only her. Her slow but steady rising popularity up until her solo debut made her gain more genuine fans that did not only stan her with the intention of shading the other members. Her popularity was now often too big for these fake fans, which led them to stop supporting her. yes some of them surely remain but the hate Jisoo receives from other fandom has increased a lot and is now often used in the opposite way. Just to give an example: during born pink tour outside fandom have stared to fake stan Lisa in order to bash the other members for their allegedly bad performance skills Still thank you for exploring the beginnings of these four solo fandoms, which really made me realize where all these obsessiv behaviors come from
They did though lol. They treid so hard to make it seem like Jisoo was the only talented one in the group because they were insecure.The most stable in the group was Jennie and Rosé. Some Jisoo stans got mad and started making those MR removed videos to prove that Jisoo was better. It back fired though because Jisoo hasn't improved her vocals while Jennie and Rosé improved. Jisoo improved her dancing but it goes back to hating the members due to jealousy.
Totally agree, 2018-19 was definitely the year when pitying Jisoo was a trend, but there's no doubt that Jisoo mostly get popularity after 200, not just because of those toxic stans but also, Snowdrop as an actress.

Suzy, IU, Yoona all these names coexisted. YG could have easily placed Jisoo and promoted her out as such while maintaining Jennie's position. Which would have zero problems in dynamic as BP is wildly known for their contrasting images. On your other point about the international sector, that was also a miscalculation on the YG part. Before Jisoo was the global ambassadors of dior, she was the muse and region ambassador. Dior only confirmed her position as global ambassador in 2021. In 2020, Jisoo had seen an influx in her popularity, dior had very little to play in that role. By 2021, Jisoo had her very first dior appearance and still created a "zombie apocalypse." Till now, her products are selling rapidly, including those that are ot4 promoted content, this includes Korea. In 2020 Dior had seen a 400% increase in sales within Korea. The media completely isolated Jisoo as the case. Which was proven as all her campaigns regional- had been sold in minutes. Again, going back to the it girl thing, YG had no excuse to push her towards the back. Korea clearly had space for her.

But IMO, after reviewing my then perception of BP dynamics and marketing after becoming their casual listener instead of diehard fans like before, there are moments where I realized that maybe, just maybe, there are some points in BP's earlier career where YGE actually tried to push jisoo to the korean market but eventually realized that koreans actually want jennie more. If I remember correctly, jisoo was actually the second member after jennie who often gets sent to variety shows, considering her visual and witty personality. I also remember how people talked about her beauty fondly. Audiences' attention has always been split evenly if jisoo was sent to the variety shows with lisa or rosé. Or when all four of them were sent to the same shows, fans tend to focus on jisoo's funny banter with the MCs. But when I watch variety show where the ones get sent are jennie and jisoo, like that Running Man episode where jennie cried due to being scared, the only one who garners korean's attention is jennie. And by high demand, she is also the only one who made next several appearance on the show until all of them reappeared years later. While yes, brands as such can signify a celebrity's influence (and I always check on knetz forum to see their perception of certain celebrities, especially those who are ambassadors of luxurious brands) if we go back to your main question above, "why is jisoo framed as jennie's competitor?" It's because I believe at one point YGE actually tried to promote both of them but eventually realized that koreans have more interest in jennie. And this "loss" is one of the factors that make jisoo akgaes start to believe that the cause of jisoo becoming the least popular is because all of her chance to shine domestically has been robbed by YGE to be given to jennie.
As a Jisoo biased I was waiting for this video. As with all the other solo stan I will never understand how they can go against other members when the people you are stanning loves that person so much. This is amplified in my opinion with Jisoo. All the members really love each other and treat each other like family. There are many examples as pure as Jennie having her members baby pics in her wallet for good luck of Jisoo inviting Lisa to celebrate the holidays with her family because she was alone. For some reason, maybe because Jisoo's personality is one that doesn't like to hang out with other people much, I always felt like she really loved them more than family. She would always go above what she likes if the other member liked doing something, which is the very definition of live and family in my opinion. So as someone that fell for her and chose her as a bias for that very reason, regardless of talent, which I think all member have in different area, I could never fathom how people could thing so little of her... and her own stans at that. When you bring someone down to look better it means you thing you are not good enough. Bringing the other member to make Jisoo look better is the same. She was always good without anyone else being bad. Victimise is really the venom of toxic sooyas and they fact that they are still going when she wrote songs, particapated in the creative process of her album (herself asking for Rosè's help), her deciding to go last and supporting the members, doing great as an actress... it's just dumb. Watch them say she is being mistreated by her own company cause she isn't releasing music for over a year when she is filming a drama and a movie at the same time. The toxic solo stans debating over THE SUPREME VISUAL in all kpop is weird to me. The thing is, beauty comes in all forms and shapes: take flowers as an example. All blackpink members are stunning, but in different ways, all of them shine equally and appeal to a specific audience. While you can prefer a member’s visuals over another, it hurts to see the same people shitting on other members for quote on quote “being ugly”.

Ppl never believed me when I said Sooyas are the most toxic solo stans..I remember saying that BPs line distribution was one of the fairest out there and they just shut me down with the argument of "but Forever Young" or "Lisoo still are almost always last and Chaennie first". And the thing about BP’s line distribution is that if it was unfair at all, we’d be able to hear it. This isn’t a group like Iz*one where there’s 12 of them and it’s not immediately discernible who’s who (I still get Yuri and Yujin’s voices confused sometimes when I listen to Iz*one). BP has four members, each with very different voices that we can easily tell who’s who.

Im a huge Jisoo biased dud, something I´ve understood in the way Jisoo drives herself is that she isn´t seeking popularity or exposure to an international market. She´s a person that has a strong personality and wont change it just for the sake of popularity, she does Blackpink because of two reasons, one being because she loves her members and two being that she has a profound love for blinks and that is whats so admirable of her, it´s a known fact that Jisoo gets mistreatment not from her agency (for I´ve said earlier) but from some "ot4" accounts on twt and that pushes the agenda even further and fuels the constant narrative, but Jisoo is a great idol that has lots to show and I truly appreciate your video Everglow :)

Correction, if Jisoo didn't seek popularity and exposure to international markets she wouldn't have accepted the brand deals for Dior and Dior beauty which are international brand deals. She also has other brand deals which she gets exposure and popularity from. Her newest brand deal (Alo) which she accepted herself is an international deal. She gets a lot of exposure from all of her deals which are basically international. The issue that I have with some of you who bias Jisoo is that you guys paint this false narrative on her. Jisoo is a human being just like us and EVERYONE wants to have money or be some sort of person that get exposure or popularity. Jisoo is humble or maybe she isn't that humble, we don't know that for sure but the way some of you that bias her talk like ya'll genuinely know her down to a T is contradicting. You can't say she doesn't seek this and that when her actions clearly shows the oppisite. When I start listening to blackpink song back in 2018, I notice, Jisoo has everything but except the right group concept, is not that she doesn't fit in the girl crush concept, she does but she doesn't stand out. She and Yoona from snsd have innocent yet elegant type of beauty, except that Jisoo's voice is quite deep, she could have stand out and be the next Yoona if she debuted in a group with cuter concept. But BP is girl crush and who fits that mold is Jennie and Lisa the most.

Unbearable they may be so but the majority of the fandom is still OT7. Maknae line, have big solo fandoms but they're still not enough to make individual episodes on each of the members of the maknae line as a whole lot of them are mainly shippers, Taekookers, Jikookers, Vminers.

BP solo stans are just like 2NE1 og solo stans, only amplified 100x due to their massive popularity/social media. I like Dara, but her fandom was insufferable any time CL or Park Bom got any solo campaign/variety show appearance. Great video. I am a full-on Lisa bias. However, I found myself cheering just as much for Jisoo's success as I saw her struggle as a legitimate underdog. You failed to mention that soon after debuting Jisoo was getting hate from a segment of blinks that were calling Jisoo the "Blackhole of Blackpink", alleging she had no talent and added nothing of value to the group except a pretty face and questioning how she ever was selected as a member of Blackpink. No one questioned why Jennie, Lisa and Rose were selected. At that time, walking into award shows Jisoo was getting much more recognition from Army (loud applause and cheers) than she was from Blinks (the sound of silence). Blinks were ignoring Jisoo at fan signings, walking right past her to get to stand in line to meet Lisa and Jennie. In those dark days Jisoo declared that as long as she had one fan that was all she needed to be happy. The fact that she persevered without ever complaining about mistreatment or underappreciation, consistently growing her fanbase within Blackpink, and then through acting in Kdramas, tells you everything you need to know about her character and intelligence.

as someone who was in stan twt on 2016 for jisoo up until 2019, what fueled the hatred even more was how jisoo was promoted heavily pre-debut and even shot up to #1 on naver after her angel stone cf and when they debuted she got nothing? we were waiting for her to get something, but all she got along with the other 2 members was being shoved at the back while jennie was in the front (ex: the sprite advertisement they did,) which I think made everyone mad because jennie stans were saying it was a jennie solo ad but YG wanted the other 3 on her gig while the rest of us were pissed at why our faves were being treated as jennie's back up dancers and with the jennie hate train rising through the ddu⁴ era, it was MESSY on the timeline.
i like this series of yours. i somehow knew rosé was gonna be the last because, based on my opinion and experiences, fansés are the ones who are the most calm. i know they took part of the jennie hate train in 2018, their argument being rosé as a main vocalist not getting the first solo of the group. i'm really curious about what you have to say about her and her solo fandom. what most rosé solo stans use as an argument against the other members (from what i've seen) is that she's the one who's most talented (sooya's 2018 argument wow lol) since she's the one hitting the high notes, the hidden vocals in most songs, and a musician. basically, she's the one that's different (as you mentioned in your video). they are toxic since they bring the same argument as army & co. against the other girls, saying they are just pretty faces and have no passion for music as rosé does. have i predicted the next video? lol. waiting for it.

I wouldn't call dives messy. They are very defensive but they don't really attack others, with the exception of aggressively calling out double standards. By the hate that Ive gets it is surprising how relatively unaggressive their fans are.

Jisoo simply didn't had a unique feature to stand out at that time except for her Visuals. Vocally Rosé and Jennie r better than her. Dance wise all members r better than her. Infact she is probably the weakest dancer by a YG grp. Rap wise Jennie and Lisa r better than her. It is always funny to me how her fans say she can rap well and hype that Pretty Savage Fast Talking part of hers. So talent wise other members stand out to the public more but that doesn't means that Jisoo is untalented. Personality wise she is very laid back so doesn't stands out much in that category. I don't think she's "untalented" but she's extremely untrained for an idol that trained 5 years and debuted 7 years ago. Idols like Tiffany and Minzy improved their vocals since the debut, idols like Jihyo and Wendy improved their dancing skills, idols like Leeseo and Lily improved their stage presence. I just don't see that in Jisoo, despite the fact that she had more free time to improve.
I think personality wise, Jisoo was very different from the other 3 and makes her stand out to some people a bit on that department. Although I guess fans like to exaggerate it as her having 3D personality, in reality it's just her standing out from the other 3, because she's not as emotional as her members and she's levelheaded, honest, and can be very witty and deliver dry humor very well.
Tbh jisoo is just perfect in BP. She adds a innocent and unique charm to the group that is full of charismatic women. She doesnt seem to want to steal the spotlight but enjoys the role she plays in the group.

E- to F in vocals, good in stage presence, just decent in performance. with that logic you can prob also say the same thing as miyeon (or also shuhua) that is easily replaceable because theyre better off from gi-dle rather than other popular and talented members like soyeon, yuqi or minnie. although not noticeable at first, jisoo fits in blackpink from the charisma and energy that matches with the group. her deep vocal color mixes with the other members' esp. rosé's high vocal tones. just like how miyeon fits in g-idle for her soft charisma and vocals and feminine energy rather than the other member's raspy tones and hyperfeminine energy. you gotta have variability when you make a group, not just make all members the same as each other.

Simply put, Jisoo as an idol didn't have stand out talent and unfortunately so far she didn't have major improvements. Lead vocalist. She had/have stamina but little to no technique as she was known to struggling with pitch, voice cracks, singing from the throat. Rosé as far skilled vocalist was taking all vocally killing moments, at time with Jennie, another lead vocalist that was better. Dancing. The group already had Lisa who is one of the best dancers from her generation and Rosé and Jennie (when she actually tried) who struggled way less with basics such as musicality or stiffness. Even during pre debut cover, people already label Jisoo as the weakest dancer. Rapping. A lot of Jisoo's stans liked to brag about how Jisoo could rap because she happened to cover Jennie's 4D raps once, but in rapping heavy songs, actual rap verses were given to rap line. Stage presence. Other 3 were simply more promising, from hyping the crowd, to more energy and spontaneousness on stage, to having more versatility. Jisoo unfortunately brings very little to group besides her visual and "variety skills" even though BP no longer even attends them. Look at other visuals. Sullyoon with good vocals, Karina and Winter with good vocals, good dancing while Karina being lead rapper,Wonyoung with stage presence etc. They're all well promoted because they actually have something that attracts the audience besides the beautiful face.

I doubt that'd actually work tho, the majority of the fandom, like more than 85% is heavily OT7. The maknae line, V, Jimin and Jk have massive solo fandoms but not enough to make entire episodes on them and a whole lot of them are mainly shippers, especially Taekookers. There's Jikookers and Vminers as well but they're way less in number comparatively. Jimin is probably the one with the biggest solo fandom as a direct result of him being targeted by Jk and V's shippers.
I think it's gonna be a long video because everything was a mess 😂. As an Army for almost 2 years, I observed that a lot of people in the fandom are heavily biased towards the maknae line. Some so-called Armys are heavily biased towards vocal line too because of their visuals ( Rapline: Suga and RM KBS are 50% while Jhope is 40% but I think rapline are beautiful and attractive their own kind of way too, it's just some Armys doesn't appreciated them. These Three men are the backbone of bts ). Rapline have some Stan's from locals too who loves rap. Maknae line solos are so toxic, some Hyung line solos are toxic too but maknae line solos are wayyy more toxic. Shippers are so annoying too. Taekookers and Jikookers are always fighting for their ships. Yoonminers, Sope, Namjin etc. Are more like peaceful shippers.
Jisoo gained many fans with snowdrop who prefer to see her outside of kpop because of the hatred that exists in that industry. When they say that they are amazed by the sales of their album, it is clear that they do not know that they previously financed Snowdrop's bluray and that they were already organized for his solo. To say that YG has not mistreated the girls and in this case Jisoo is real, in the lines, locker rooms. Just look at the fact that she looked for her acting jobs and she looked for her brands that YG did not allow. That doesn't mean you shouldn't hate others.

I also want to add explanation of how jennie's popularity in korea is not solely due to YGE pushing her alone. This is what I notice from becoming a blink since 2016 until 2020. Jennie's duality, the baddas persona as her brand molded by YGE and her true cute personality, helps a lot in winning both international and domestic. This is something I realized since her aegyo in BP's first weekly idol appearance went viral. After that, both jennie and jisoo got invited to Running Man (which is a first tier television program in SK) but only jennie got invited to next RM episodes due to her scared reaction in the haunted house is so entertaining and endearing for koreans. I, who was a Jisoo-biased back then, was admittedly so disappointed since I thought jisoo would finally find her niche in the industry (after all, she is funny and suit variety shows a lot). I think that's also the moment I became more and more of solo stan. But when I wasn't in that fandom anymore and now active in other fandoms, I can clearly see that some idols do shine more than others. While company has involvement to manage the idol's popularity, some idols just cannot help but be overshadowed by others who shine brighter. Just like humans in general. While everyone has something special in them, some people come off as more interesting than others.

Nah Jisoo get really mistreated and sabotaged all the time. If I gave you one example, in her solo era Flower went viral and milions of people are dancing and making contents on youtube shorts using the song. Flower become most used kpop song of all time on youtube shorts, facebook and instagram reels within 4 months. But YG remove the flower song feature from Jisoo first four videos which most of people are using on youtube shorts. The numbers are like almost 7M and reduced to 4M. They used to take down or make private Jisoo fancams especially trending on youtube korea in the past too. But I understand its most likely to be popularity control. She is supposed to be least popular member.

She’s intimidating and a boss bitch but she also is glamorous and feminine. Unfortunately it comes at the expense of other artists. But what can you do? You gotta make money, it’s a tough industry. Jennie is like what nayeon is, and jisoo like tzuyu. With sana being number two, so ofc they would overshadow tzuyu and it’s the same with Jennie and jisoo. Also to note Jennie is just like other popular YG idols like gdragon, CL, mino and b.i/bobby. I agree with you on most things, except the allusion that yg/blinks were treating jisoo the same way they treated jenlisa. Its just not true. The reason why it was so easy to get people who hated bp to "support" jisoo is because of how blatantly obvious the difference in treatment was. Jisoo solo stans did not make that up. Neither was it subtle in any way. The reason why it could no longer fly around 2020 is in part because if what you said about stan culture changing, but also because after hylt, for whatever reason, jisoo actually gained a lot of attention from people. Making her in many metrics the 3rd most popular worldwide, even if she was still the least popular in the west. With this rise in popularity it became untrue that jisoo was "underrated", but a lot of jisoo stans just couldn't let go of the past so they kept pushing that narrative.
Never said that though, but let's not pretend that just by popularity of the group, all the members didn't have the same platform. People not gravitating towards her is not YG's fault. Not to mention Lisa was treated much worse but she managed to be the most popular in the west... Think about that.

In the hylt comeback, she finally caught people's attention.I'm not arguing with that. Like i said I agree with most of what you said. And as for her popularity in the west, we cannot disregard the effect of her inability to speak English and just how her general behaviour is in most of the time to opposite of what a western audience finds attractive in a female celebrity. Jisoo was getting even less VOCAL lines in many songs than LISA. and when jennie rapped less (something she had said was a personal choice) she was given more vocal lines than jisoo and prioritised. Even jer role as the "visual" was not given the roles of the visual receiving less screen and camera time than any of the girls in EVERY official capacity. So NO she was not treated according to her talent. In the official videoing of coachella, the yg camera would even be on other members while jisoo was singing or would be focused on every member when it was their turn to sing, but use jisoos singing time as an opportunity to show the crowd instead of jisoo. This is just one example to show how jisoo is often sacrificed for some other purpose by the company and in many cases by blinks too.

They created and sculpted the image/role they wanted her to have and started spreading it until people just accepted it over time. People knew that at the time years ago. I've realized something with recent fans, Western fans in particularly, they conveniently forget things a lot. It's like AOA back then everyone knew the visual was Hyejeong and Seolhyun was the it girl, the center and face of the group. If you look at videos now they label Seolhyun the visual. I've been into Kpop since 2009 and I've never seen fans like Jisoo's. Aespa is another group whose fans started doing that.

The parallels between Blackpink solos and aespa solos is chilling. It's crazy how every episode of the BP Olympics reminds me of actions/ behaviors of aespa solos. They have to be the most insufferable breed of people since the upcoming of BP solos.
The point that got to me the most was how good Jisoo solos were with being so despicable. I would always argue with people who would say how "peaceful" or "cool" or "laid back" Jisoo solos were. They were so horrible to Jennie but that was rarely ever brought up or acknowledged.

Jisoo is my ult of Ults but it’s mostly because of her personality. The other reason is her talent. I couldn’t care less about the visual position or debate because literally every idol’s popularity and appeal is due in part to their visuals for better or worse whether they are the visual or not
Jisoo is also my ULT and it is because she has a beautiful husky voice. I find all of the Blackpink members very pretty, but Jisoo’s voice stood out to me the most.

I love this sentiment! On one hand, you have groups that you tend to steer clear of because their fans are batshit crazy. I didn’t get into Enhypen until just recently because of their delulu fans. I’m usually late to the party when it comes to SKZ stuff because I don’t want to say something that’ll piss off Stays.
On the other, there are some groups where you stan the fandom as much as the group. got7 and Agases, MCND and Gems, Kard and Hidden Kard, Astro and Arohas, Monsta X and Monbebes. God, I love Monbebes.
While I do agree with a lot of the arguments mentioned and I found it really interesting to get an insight into the earlier stages of the fandom as someone who joined a bit later, I feel like the evolution of this solo fandom is a bit incomplete.
I for one don’t think it should be claimed that Jisoo solo stands (real or pretend ones) were the people edited MR removed videos as those channels posted multiple groups and not just Blackpink so it is unclear which fandoms they belong to and what underlying motives they had.
However, what I find even more important to mention is that the change in Jisoo‘s solo fandom after 2020 is not included at all in this video. I myself became a fan of Jisoo during 2019 so I do remember the alleged favorite position that she had among non Blackpink fans but the change of who her solo fandom consisted out of surely happend in late 2020/2021. one reason was her lead role in snowdrop, which made her gain many fans that were attracted to her through her acting and didn’t start out as blinks and often stayed fans of only her. Her slow but steady rising popularity up until her solo debut made her gain more genuine fans that did not only stan her with the intention of shading the other members. Her popularity was now often too big for these fake fans, which led them to stop supporting her. yes some of them surely remain but the hate Jisoo receives from other fandom has increased a lot and is now often used in the opposite way. Just to give an example: during born pink tour outside fandom have stared to fake stan Lisa in order to bash the other members for their allegedly bad performance skills

Jisoo improved her dancing but it goes back to hating the members due to jealousy.
Totally agree, 2018-19 was definitely the year when pitying Jisoo was a trend, but there's no doubt that Jisoo mostly get popularity after 200, not just because of those toxic stans but also, Snowdrop as an actress.

The only difference between them and Jennie is that Jennie suited the beauty standards hence was able to cement herself.

But even with those figures, innocent, gentle, elegant whatever you wanna call it beauty , thrived in Korea. Suzy, IU, Yoona all these names coexisted. YG could have easily placed Jisoo and promoted her out as such while maintaining Jennie's position. Which would have zero problems in dynamic as BP is wildly known for their contrasting images.
On your other point about the international sector, that was also a miscalculation on the YG part. Before Jisoo was the global ambassadors of dior, she was the muse and region ambassador. Dior only confirmed her position as global ambassador in 2021. In 2020, Jisoo had seen an influx in her popularity, dior had very little to play in that role. By 2021, Jisoo had her very first dior appearance and still created a "zombie apocalypse."
Till now, her products are selling rapidly, including those that are ot4 promoted content, this includes Korea. In 2020 Dior had seen a 400% increase in sales within Korea. The media completely isolated Jisoo as the case. Which was proven as all her campaigns regional- had been sold in minutes. Again, going back to the it girl thing, YG had no excuse to push her towards the back. Korea clearly had space for her.

But IMO, after reviewing my then perception of BP dynamics and marketing after becoming their casual listener instead of diehard fans like before, there are moments where I realized that maybe, just maybe, there are some points in BP's earlier career where YGE actually tried to push jisoo to the korean market but eventually realized that koreans actually want jennie more. If I remember correctly, jisoo was actually the second member after jennie who often gets sent to variety shows, considering her visual and witty personality. I also remember how people talked about her beauty fondly. Audiences' attention has always been split evenly if jisoo was sent to the variety shows with lisa or rosé. Or when all four of them were sent to the same shows, fans tend to focus on jisoo's funny banter with the MCs. But when I watch variety show where the ones get sent are jennie and jisoo, like that Running Man episode where jennie cried due to being scared, the only one who garners korean's attention is jennie. And by high demand, she is also the only one who made next several appearance on the show until all of them reappeared years later.
While yes, brands as such can signify a celebrity's influence (and I always check on knetz forum to see their perception of certain celebrities, especially those who are ambassadors of luxurious brands) if we go back to your main question above, "why is jisoo framed as jennie's competitor?" It's because I believe at one point YGE actually tried to promote both of them but eventually realized that koreans have more interest in jennie. And this "loss" is one of the factors that make jisoo akgaes start to believe that the cause of jisoo becoming the least popular is because all of her chance to shine domestically has been robbed by YGE to be given to jennie.
As a Jisoo biased I was waiting for this video. As with all the other solo stan I will never understand how they can go against other members when the people you are stanning loves that person so much. This is amplified in my opinion with Jisoo. All the members really love each other and treat each other like family. There are many examples as pure as Jennie having her members baby pics in her wallet for good luck of Jisoo inviting Lisa to celebrate the holidays with her family because she was alone. For some reason, maybe because Jisoo's personality is one that doesn't like to hang out with other people much, I always felt like she really loved them more than family. She would always go above what she likes if the other member liked doing something, which is the very definition of live and family in my opinion. So as someone that fell for her and chose her as a bias for that very reason, regardless of talent, which I think all member have in different area, I could never fathom how people could thing so little of her... and her own stans at that. When you bring someone down to look better it means you thing you are not good enough. Bringing the other member to make Jisoo look better is the same. She was always good without anyone else being bad. Victimise is really the venom of toxic sooyas and they fact that they are still going when she wrote songs, particapated in the creative process of her album (herself asking for Rosè's help), her deciding to go last and supporting the members, doing great as an actress... it's just dumb. Watch them say she is being mistreated by her own company cause she isn't releasing music for over a year when she is filming a drama and a movie at the same time. Ppl never believed me when I said Sooyas are the most toxic solo stans..I remember saying that BPs line distribution was one of the fairest out there and they just shut me down with the argument of "but Forever Young" or "Lisoo still are almost always last and Chaennie first".

And the thing about BP’s line distribution is that if it was unfair at all, we’d be able to hear it. This isn’t a group like Iz*one where there’s 12 of them and it’s not immediately discernible who’s who (I still get Yuri and Yujin’s voices confused sometimes when I listen to Iz*one). BP has four members, each with very different voices that we can easily tell who’s who.

Correction, if Jisoo didn't seek popularity and exposure to international markets she wouldn't have accepted the brand deals for Dior and Dior beauty which are international brand deals. She also has other brand deals which she gets exposure and popularity from. Her newest brand deal (Alo) which she accepted herself is an international deal. When I start listening to blackpink song back in 2018, I notice, Jisoo has everything but except the right group concept, is not that she doesn't fit in the girl crush concept, she does but she doesn't stand out. Great video. I am a full-on Lisa bias. However, I found myself cheering just as much for Jisoo's success as I saw her struggle as a legitimate underdog. You failed to mention that soon after debuting Jisoo was getting hate from a segment of blinks that were calling Jisoo the "Blackhole of Blackpink", alleging she had no talent and added nothing of value to the group except a pretty face and questioning how she ever was selected as a member of Blackpink. No one questioned why Jennie, Lisa and Rose were selected. At that time, walking into award shows Jisoo was getting much more recognition from Army (loud applause and cheers) than she was from Blinks (the sound of silence). Blinks were ignoring Jisoo at fan signings, walking right past her to get to stand in line to meet Lisa and Jennie. In those dark days Jisoo declared that as long as she had one fan that was all she needed to be happy. The fact that she persevered without ever complaining about mistreatment or underappreciation, consistently growing her fanbase within Blackpink, and then through acting in Kdramas, tells you everything you need to know about her character and intelligence.

as someone who was in stan twt on 2016 for jisoo up until 2019, what fueled the hatred even more was how jisoo was promoted heavily pre-debut and even shot up to #1 on naver after her angel stone cf and when they debuted she got nothing? we were waiting for her to get something, but all she got along with the other 2 members was being shoved at the back while jennie was in the front (ex: the sprite advertisement they did,) which I think made everyone mad because jennie stans were saying it was a jennie solo ad but YG wanted the other 3 on her gig while the rest of us were pissed at why our faves were being treated as jennie's back up dancers and with the jennie hate train rising through the ddu⁴ era, it was MESSY on the timeline.

Jisoo simply didn't had a unique feature to stand out at that time except for her Visuals. Vocally Rosé and Jennie r better than her. Dance wise all members r better than her. Infact she is probably the weakest dancer by a YG grp. Rap wise Jennie and Lisa r better than her. It is always funny to me how her fans say she can rap well and hype that Pretty Savage Fast Talking part of hers. So talent wise other members stand out to the public more but that doesn't means that Jisoo is untalented. Personality wise she is very laid back so doesn't stands out much in that category. But the stupid 'mistreatment' agenda was what made her soo popular. Her stans hype her for the smallest thing she does. I agree with everything u have said.

Simply put, Jisoo as an idol didn't have stand out talent and unfortunately so far she didn't have major improvements.
Lead vocalist. She had/have stamina but little to no technique as she was known to struggling with pitch, voice cracks, singing from the throat. Rosé as far skilled vocalist was taking all vocally killing moments, at time with Jennie, another lead vocalist that was better.
Dancing. The group already had Lisa who is one of the best dancers from her generation and Rosé and Jennie (when she actually tried) who struggled way less with basics such as musicality or stiffness. Even during pre debut cover, people already label Jisoo as the weakest dancer.
Rapping. A lot of Jisoo's stans liked to brag about how Jisoo could rap because she happened to cover Jennie's 4D raps once, but in rapping heavy songs, actual rap verses were given to rap line.
Stage presence. Other 3 were simply more promising, from hyping the crowd, to more energy and spontaneousness on stage, to having more versatility.
Jisoo unfortunately brings very little to group besides her visual and "variety skills" even though BP no longer even attends them. Look at other visuals.
Sullyoon with good vocals, Karina and Winter with good vocals, good dancing while Karina being lead rapper,Wonyoung with stage presence etc. They're all well promoted because they actually have something that attracts the audience besides the beautiful face.

The maknae line, V, Jimin and Jk have massive solo fandoms but not enough to make entire episodes on them and a whole lot of them are mainly shippers, especially Taekookers. There's Jikookers and Vminers as well but they're way less in number comparatively. Jimin is probably the one with the biggest solo fandom as a direct result of him being targeted by Jk and V's shippers.

I think it's gonna be a long video because everything was a mess 😂. As an Army for almost 2 years, I observed that a lot of people in the fandom are heavily biased towards the maknae line. Some so-called Armys are heavily biased towards vocal line too because of their visuals ( Rapline: Suga and RM KBS are 50% while Jhope is 40% but I think rapline are beautiful and attractive their own kind of way too, it's just some Armys doesn't appreciated them. These Three men are the backbone of bts ). Rapline have some Stan's from locals too who loves rap. Maknae line solos are so toxic, some Hyung line solos are toxic too but maknae line solos are wayyy more toxic. Shippers are so annoying too. When they say that they are amazed by the sales of their album, it is clear that they do not know that they previously financed Snowdrop's bluray and that they were already organized for his solo. I also want to add explanation of how jennie's popularity in korea is not solely due to YGE pushing her alone. This is what I notice from becoming a blink since 2016 until 2020.
Jennie's duality, the baddas persona as her brand molded by YGE and her true cute personality, helps a lot in winning both international and domestic. This is something I realized since her aegyo in BP's first weekly idol appearance went viral. After that, both jennie and jisoo got invited to Running Man (which is a first tier television program in SK) but only jennie got invited to next RM episodes due to her scared reaction in the haunted house is so entertaining and endearing for koreans. I, who was a Jisoo-biased back then, was admittedly so disappointed since I thought jisoo would finally find her niche in the industry (after all, she is funny and suit variety shows a lot). I think that's also the moment I became more and more of solo stan.
But when I wasn't in that fandom anymore and now active in other fandoms, I can clearly see that some idols do shine more than others. While company has involvement to manage the idol's popularity, some idols just cannot help but be overshadowed by others who shine brighter. Just like humans in general. While everyone has something special in them, some people come off as more interesting than others.

Nah Jisoo get really mistreated and sabotaged all the time. If I gave you one example, in her solo era Flower went viral and milions of people are dancing and making contents on youtube shorts using the song. Flower become most used kpop song of all time on youtube shorts, facebook and instagram reels within 4 months. But YG remove the flower song feature from Jisoo first four videos which most of people are using on youtube shorts. The numbers are like almost 7M and reduced to 4M. They used to take down or make private Jisoo fancams especially trending on youtube korea in the past too. But I understand its most likely to be popularity control. She is supposed to be least popular member.
I don't stan bp so I don't know the specifics, but I think jisoo wanted to film a mv for all eyes on me and even asked for it many times, but it hasn't been filmed?? that's a shame too

I think YG should have pushed Jisoo in Korea and Jennie in the west more but instead pushed Jennie because of her IT girl personality and whatever mess we have now is because of YG's tactics which worked because now blackpink is the biggest gg but the cost the members paid for it is alot
Jisoo is lovely and she has talent but logically I understand why Jennie was pushed. Obviously I get she was the best choice for western appeal. But also Jennie is blackpink in the sense that in almost every group there’s a member who 100% fits the thesis of the group the most. Jennie is black (not the race lol!) but she’s also pink. She’s intimidating and a boss bitch but she also is glamorous and feminine. The other members skew towards one or the other (jisoo was the most pink, rosè being more pink but less than jisoo and Lisa being mostly black with her tomboy aesthetic). It just makes sense. Unfortunately it comes at the expense of other artists. But what can you do? You gotta make money, it’s a tough industry. Jennie is like what nayeon is, and jisoo like tzuyu. Jisoo might be the visual in terms of Korean beauty standards like tzuyu. But nayeon fitted twice’s cute girl next door to a T. With sana being number two, so ofc they would overshadow tzuyu and it’s the same with Jennie and jisoo. Also to note Jennie is just like other popular YG idols like gdragon, CL, mino and b.i/bobby. If bp had a leader Jennie would’ve been it bc she fits the mold from her previous predecessors.
Jisoo fans thought her career would’ve played out like yoona or Suzy but they don’t understand the at not only were those girls the visuals but they were kinda the face, they fit the vibe of their groups the best.
It’s all ridiculous tho bc jisoo is in a position that most idols could only dream of. She’s getting the dramas, she has western connections thanks to blackpink. She’s one of the main faces used by Dior. Whereas other kpop idols are only used for domestic markets in fashion houses and not international. Jisoo is in a group that literally headlined coachella. And she’s top 4 most followed kpop idols. So like it’s all very stupid

I used to stream jisoo solo in start what I saw toxic solo Stans of other members make fun of her and call her talentless, stiffsoo and many other bad names and when I praise jisoo for her vocal like jisoo sing this part very well then some rose and Jennie stan still she is not better than them or she can't support, she regressed,she strain alot and if I praise her for dance like she did that smoothly then all other stans of members make fun of her and call stiff
I am not saying that other members don't get or criticise but in case of jisoo even in normal praising comment like she did good and she is my favourite many people start comparing her to other members

I agree with you on most things, except the allusion that yg/blinks were treating jisoo the same way they treated jenlisa. Its just not true. The reason why it was so easy to get people who hated bp to "support" jisoo is because of how blatantly obvious the difference in treatment was. Jisoo solo stans did not make that up. Neither was it subtle in any way. The reason why it could no longer fly around 2020 is in part because if what you said about stan culture changing, but also because after hylt, for whatever reason, jisoo actually gained a lot of attention from people. Making her in many metrics the 3rd most popular worldwide, even if she was still the least popular in the west. With this rise in popularity it became untrue that jisoo was "underrated", but a lot of jisoo stans just couldn't let go of the past so they kept pushing that narrative.
Never said that though, but let's not pretend that just by popularity of the group, all the members didn't have the same platform. People not gravitating towards her is not YG's fault. Not to mention Lisa was treated much worse but she managed to be the most popular in the west... Think about that.

And as for her popularity in the west, we cannot disregard the effect of her inability to speak English and just how her general behaviour is in most of the time to opposite of what a western audience finds attractive in a female celebrity. But Jisoo's only position is vocalist (talent wise). Being a Visual is not a talent. Now just think who will get more lines, center parts and all in BPs Songs. She was never mistreated to the extent her fans say. It was their fault that they could not praise her the right way. Even now some of her fans cannot do that.
While its true that YG does not know how to treat the members and the grps but it wasn't just Jisoo who suffered but the entire grp and all the girls.

Jisoo was getting even less VOCAL lines in many songs than LISA. and when jennie rapped less (something she had said was a personal choice) she was given more vocal lines than jisoo and prioritised. Even jer role as the "visual" was not given the roles of the visual receiving less screen and camera time than any of the girls in EVERY official capacity. So NO she was not treated according to her talent. In the official videoing of coachella, the yg camera would even be on other members while jisoo was singing or would be focused on every member when it was their turn to sing, but use jisoos singing time as an opportunity to show the crowd instead of jisoo. This is just one example to show how jisoo is often sacrificed for some other purpose by the company and in many cases by blinks too.

Not because she sings less overall but because it feels her "parts" always sacrifice so Jennie and Rose can sing more. Not in all of their songs, but to name a few, hope not, as if it's our last, yeah yeah yeah

Always love your opinions I wish YG pushed Jisoo more domestically she is such a gem. Jisoo was never really meant for the international market not speaking English. I think it would’ve been so much better if they pushed Jennie just internationally bc just pushing on member does not turn out well. You can see this with the amount of hate she gets
Her fans kind of birthed the pick the under dog, say they're mistreated, give them a position they never had out of pity lol and attack the most popular members. Her fans gave her a lot of things and assert of lot of things that people conveniently forgot over time. They remind me of a government. They created and sculpted the image/role they wanted her to have and started spreading it until people just accepted it over time. People knew that at the time years ago. I've realized something with recent fans, Western fans in particularly, they conveniently forget things a lot. It's like AOA back then everyone knew the visual was Hyejeong and Seolhyun was the it girl, the center and face of the group. If you look at videos now they label Seolhyun the visual. I've been into Kpop since 2009 and I've never seen fans like Jisoo's.
Aespa is another group whose fans started doing that.
I was today years old when I discovered I was weird for appreciating each member individually for their respective talents, and as a whole for how well they work together.
The mr removed videos omg… istg. Idols are HUMANS, they’re bound to make mistakes and sing unstable while hopping around the stage. While it coems off as uprofessional, it’s easy
1) to edit the vocals
2) use it an an excuse to hate on all the other members for two mr removed videos
3) not being “”stable”” doesn’t make you a bad vocalist, even the queen mariah carey has had her bad days. Does this mean she’s a horrible singer and should get tons of backlash? No.
