There's absolutely no way they don't make Beetlejuice Bettlejuice Beetlejuice after this, Burton/Keaton or otherwise. You just don't give the movie this title without those plans in place.
It was movie first at 1988 then they made Animated Series based on it in 1989-1991 then 25 years later and they made musical, and now they made the sequal.
I saw the original in the theater as an eighth grader in '88, so watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice over the weekend as a now-50-year-old man was such a nostalgia trip! While I agree with some of the nitpicks that some people are bringing up (too many subplots, several wasted characters, not enough Danny Elfman score), I still absolutely loved the movie. Tim Burton has been one of my favorite directors since childhood, so it was great to see him return to that Tim Burton wackiness and weirdness that I know and love. I do hope there's another sequel (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, perhaps?).
The movie was fun but Keaton is lacking energy. He seemed off to me. BJ's reintroduction was underwhelming. Showing his job and stuff should have been left after Lydia calls on him. Jefferey Jones is in it way more than anyone would expect. Lydia is less like Lydia and more like Darlene from the Conners. Catherine O'hara is the scene stealer in this one.
I wish they would've focused on when Delores puts herself back together she wouldve have more parts that were rotted and more greens and blues. Also, one thing i was hoping for was a nod to the ring finger from BeetleJuice when he says to Lydia, She meant nothing to me darlin'. I was hoping that Delores had like, phantom limb and the finger the ring was still in beetlejuice's coat pocket. She wanted Lydias finger to replace her missing finger. I dunno why i thought of Corpe's Bride when they were gonna do BeetleJuice's backstoey on how he met Delores. It was also weird she just appeared out of no where. I think my favorite gag waa when Bj said lets spill our guts.
Michael Keaton himself said it's better than the original and even though it hasn't been released yet i trust his judgment plus apparently the Beetlejuice character has a bigger appearance
Not only was it not even close to the first one this movie wasn’t good at all. Absolute waste of time and money and it kills me to say that. I waited almost 40 years for a sequel and I love the first one
Hate to say it but I’ll find it hard to believe any of your reviews after seeing what you thought of this movie because obviously since they invited you to see it early you can’t say much negative about it but this movie was absolute dog shit and it kills me to say that because of how much I loved the original and how long I waited for a sequel. Almost 40 years. It definitely didn’t capture any magic from the first film.
I agree with Chris' assessment having seen the film yesterday. Lots of moving parts, not all of which get enough attention, and an occasionally convoluted plot but thre performances were amazing, the effects were fun, the costume designs by Colleen Atwood were immaculate and it was an overall really entertaining return to the Beetlwjuice universe. I felt Beetlejuice himself was utilised a lot better in this one than the original as he had more to do than taunting Adam and Barbara from the model. As musical set-pieces go, MacArthur Park is no Banana Boat Song, but it was pretty epic. My feeling is they've left it open for a third film but if it doesn’t happen this and the original make for a delightful pair.
I liked the movie, though in my shortest summation I felt "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" was Busy busy busy. Like you said, the pacing, but again I have ADD so, I can catch up pretty easily.
@@stichhavoc88 - his attempted solicitation of a minor (for photographs, nothing else), saw him face consequences almost immediately, and since then Jones has _never_ repeated any such offense and expressed great contrition. Compare this to Weinstein and Polanski, _et al.,_ who predated for decades and in the case of the latter not only evaded punishment but is still subject to myriad Hollywood accolades.
I was surprised just how much the Charles character was actually in the movie. And barely a passing reference to the Maitlands. Expected it to be the opposite, though I think if a third film is made, there's an easy way to write them back in. Still, I highly enjoyed the movie overall.
Beetlejuice, or seeing random images from Beetlejuice, is my first memory. I was 2 years old and my parents went to see it at the drive in with me in the back seat. So I'm right there with ya.
If you've never seen Orange County, fix that! Catherine O'Hara is awesome in it. The rest of the cast is great too - Jack Black, Colin Hanks, John Lithgow, Harold Ramis, Kevin Kline, etc.
I seen the original in the theatres as a kid. I was the perfect age to see that movie when it came out. I’m beyond excited to go see this new one as a grown up but I’m scared it is going to let me down. I hope not.
I love Beetlejuice but I hate like 95% of these legacy sequels that are just leeching off nostalgia. Not sure if I'm going to spend money on it in theaters.
I enjoyed it overall, The first hour was a bit of a slog to bet through all the build up with the ex wife was not worth the pay off at all, A film of 2 half's for sure 3rd act was great
I went in really excited and I came away really disappointed in this movie. It was bad and dumb in ways that made me really angry. I know it’s not that deep but it’s failures were so obvious to me and there were so many missed opportunities and bad choices all around.
Really wish they’d done something completely different like _Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian_ and married that creepy German expressionism with a ‘Surf’s Up Big Kahuna!’ Hawaiian milieu. A Beetlejuice sequel needed a completely different tone to distinguish itself.
I’m extremely glad they did not go in that direction. That movie would have been a complete disaster and I believe everyone knows it which is why they didn’t do that.
@@RaymondHamby - dunno. A complete tonal departure worked so well for the sequel to _Texas Chainsaw Massacre_ . . . I’d just rather see anything other than a ‘requel’ or an attempt to slavishly copy the aesthetics of the first one, plus the plot point of a resort development was such a good idea for the Charles Deetz property developer character (granted, Jeffrey Jones was probably never going to appear in this one).
@@edwardcatt2399having just came fresh from seeing this movie I will admit I was wrong you were right. They should have made Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian 30 years ago, this new sequel was one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a very long time.
@@RaymondHamby - crap, yeah? Most reviews I see (i.e., thumbnail remarks), are somewhat positive. The impression I have of this film from trailers and critics is that it’s a ‘Beetlejuice Greatest Hits’ rehash of the original but without the early Burton inventive amateurish flair. I agree with it that guys like Burton have basically lost their original style and are now just bastardizing their own earlier work with bigger budgets and far less creativity or capability, not least of all because they don’t have anything else to do. Movies like _Beetlejuice_ really thrived on relatively lower budgets combined with a youthful and highly ambitious cast and crew but when you replace these with a high budget and an old, jaded and fairly nonchalant crew then you get a highly polished turd rather than lightning in a bottle 🤷♂️
I guess I'm in the minority here, and I know no one gives a fuck, but I didn't like it at all. I loved B1. This was so contrived, too fast with too much going on, so the story suffered in my opinion.

Exactly!, I’ve been saying this since I saw the title. It has to be done 🤞
except if it will be animation or the Ai become stronger.
Yes but Tim Burton says "this isn't a trilogy" so he doesn't really want to.
You're not supposed to say his name thrice
I love how the movie took from the animated show and the musical!!!
Damn, it rlly took from the TV show?? watching it tonight as it's on tubi 😂
The animated show was a lot better.

Because he will as he is promote it. Studios will always use influencers that have followings. Word of mouth etc. Social media promotion.
