Sterling Silver has a hardness of 75 HV on the Vickers scale, 14 karat White Gold has a hardness of 230 HV on the Vickers scale, Platinum has a hardness of 125 HV on the Vickers scale. Rhodium plating has a hardness of 800 HV on the Vickers scale.
If it looks drop dead georgious, shiney and gleams in the light... Its silver...
Its platinum if it looks like stainless steal and ugly but is surprisingly heavier... There is no way to definitely tell apart platinum from white gold.

@@QueenPetgurl even if it is not... you have to say so cuz the maker took a metal cheaper than gold and charged you 4-5 times the money it would have costed if the metal was gold.
@Adventurer-Rikth when it comes to something I want, it's priceless. I had my own reasons. The market doesn't influence every decision I make. And I have news for you, because every jewelry store you go to marks prices up for anything you buy. And besides, I didn't get it from a jewelry store. Also, platinum is rarer and harder to work with and is more labor intensive which also goes into the cost.

I have 9 grams of yellow gold and 3.45 grams of white gold, I was thinking of melting the two together into one. what will the end result be?
Not a jeweler, but that would depend on the carat of the gold. Personally I wouldn’t fuse them at all, you might end up devaluing your gold, if say your yellow piece is of a higher quality than the white. If your yellow piece is 18k and your white is 18k you’ll be fine, but if your white is say 10k you’ll be diluting your yellow or vice versa.

The thing is that yellow gold is in nature. White gold is not. White gold is a mixture of yellow gold and other metals which gives it it's whitish/grey color. Therefore white gold can't turn into yellow gold. But yellow gold can become white gold. The only way to make it look like yellow gold would be to have a gold plating.
