- John Williams is as hardcore a Datsun as a they come. A relative late-comer, he embraced the Z culture in the early 1980s. Since then he's used his skills as a machinist, and passion as an enthusiast, to produce his own parts for award-winning classics. Among the finest is his silver 240Z, a labor of love for a sports car that changed the West's perception of what the Japanese could do. Definitely one of the best looking cars ever, it aged really well.
Had a army green one from 72. I always had a girl in the other seat. What a fun car for a kid back then. It had so many cool features & the seats & counsel with the slide ashtray & the manual choke.
This channel and Petrolicious are the only car channels i watch, im not even that into cars but these guys make it cool.
I think I'm going to buy an old rusty 240Z and restore it some day, such a beautiful car.

As a '72 Datsun 510 wagon owner, I can back up the spark you feel when you drive a Datsun. My neighbor has a '72 240Z that I've recently been wanting to make an offer for because of videos like this. The car sits most of the year and it makes me kinda sad to see that beautiful blue machine stare at the road under an awning for 3/4's of the year. Great video ElectricFederal!
I'd bet you get that "spark" when driving other classic cars, not just Datsun's. :P
I learned to drive stick on my brother's 260Z...... Before I die I will own one myself!!!
My brother used to do every stunt you can possibly do with that car. Less say every summer U-joints and a new cluth were installed lol alone with motor mounts. This was back in the late 80s and it was fun leaving cars in the dust.

I recently bought a 280zx ( I know, least wanted Z there is. but in the EU, really hard to find a good Z for cheap) And the first time I test drove it.. Man was I in love with it. It ran beautiful...
I've had 3 Z's 2 73's and 1 77 with a 5 speed. Wish I hadn't sold the 77. Now i want it back ! Damm-it

Perfect. I had 3 examples of the old z cars but they were 2.8s, always wanted the earlier ones because of the less square bumpers. Videos like this keep me amped, great clean car.

As a muscle car guy with little love for today's ricer cars, I think the 240/280s are beutiful. Sexy lines with that classic long hood short trunk lid profile. Well done Datsun

Fantastic cinema photography.
Had a 72 that was lowered with front spoiler, Pirrelli's, gas shocks and a header with straight line exhaust, roll bar and Recaro seat. Very very fast car. Blew away Vette's, Lotus europa's, Mazda's etc. Flames out the exhaust as you downshifted back into 3rd at 100MPH. Would do well over 155MPH. Sad I do not have it anymore.
Anything else i have a 76 z and am looking for upgrade tips. its completely stock all the way down to the fat bumpers!!!
Nice , but dad is building a 72 , lowered of course , fender flares , lq9 6.0 390 HP 390 torque building it up to 450 , gonna be red , should be done in February for a big carshow and I'm telln you , no one here in Louisville Kentucky is gonna have one there but us

The spikes on the wheel centers are for when you're racing and you want to slide sideways into someone and slash their tires.

I love these cars. I tried to buy a couple but couldn't, and passed (regrettably) on my chance to get a complete one needing to be restored for $1500. I agree about not needing the radio and would rather listen to the car. On that note, why is there music playing in this video while you're driving the car? I was bummed out. Lol

Love the car. I know looks are subjective. But I would loose the lugnuts, stipes and some of the more modern interior parts like the shift knob. The rest is golden

A general pet-peeve of mine is to have music over a exhaust note. Especially since the guy in the video explains how he'd rather listen to the beautiful music his car makes than some AC/DC song.. And what do you play as he peals out? Crappy techno.

I was looking for a 240z but not having any luck, but i found a really good deal on a 1974 datsun 260z and they look the exact same as the 240z. Should i just wait for a 240z to come around or just do the 260z its a killer deal!

260z has small improvements over 240z just so you know plus also depends if you are maming into a project either stock or mod congratulations on your purchase :-)

hmmm i dont know. The 300zx was nice, but thats because it was designed by italians ;). The 370z has a nice ass and sick curves, and very aggressive looking
Such a beautiful car. It is too bad that the Japanese have lost their way and produce the weird, misshapen autos of today. It is as if ugly is the new beautiful.
