Just got myself an orange Gen8 Scout II for Father's day and saw your video and decided to drop in and subscribe. Look forward to catching up on some of your videos and see how you do things. May have a question from time to time so you just keep 'em coming!
I've been wondering when DO would come back! I like the straight-up review here. I'll be happy to see more goofing around in the grand FT family tradition, but videos like this teach a whole lot to people like me who aren't involved at all in the hobby but are interested in learning more anyway.
Last crawler I built was a Losi crawler but scrapped the parts from it and put on a Tamiya YJ body cut and modded then painted so it looked like my real Jeep YJ crawler. I used a custom frame and suspension. Added lead wheel weights on the frame, and inside the wheels. With the extra weight it flattened the tires more to get more grip. It was so cool to go out with it in the 1-1 version. So my Real Jeep and RC Jeep looked alike and could have fun all day in either or both.
Being in Canada I end up spending about 500 on this. I’m more then likely going to buy it though. I currently have a moderately modified vaterra ascender. Can’t wait to try this out

300 bucks, original design, aluminum upper and lower links and steering links AND differential cover!! what a deal!! edit: PORTAL AXLES TOO!??!?! wow that is an INCREDIBLE deal edit again: AND super swamper tires with that wicked aggressive tread! wow
I can see the decent price tag, due to all the Scale Trail Competition being built. The Rock Crawler Scene just up and dropped off the face of the earth!! And the Scale Trail Scene just exploded on the Scene!!! More and more companies are wanting in on all this money being spent!!! ;)
Bring on some old school Monster Trucks! Lunchbox, Midnight Pumpkin, Blackfoot, Monster Beetle, Wild Willy! I had a Kyosho Big Boss when I was a kid, so many awesome memories. Picked up a Tamiya Lunchbox last summer, these are great bashers!!
i love reading redcat haters comments lol especially the traxxas fan boys, who never mention traxxas copies almost everything from Chinese companies then tries to sue for infringement. they couldn't spring for a licensed body on the sport? give credit where its due, $299 for the scout is a really good vehicle at a really nice price
Please do a review of the Carisma MSA-1E 1/24 scale crawler and the CR-24 one that some other company makes. Also the Carisma 1/10 that comes with a Range Rover body. Also the HPI Venture with the FJ body on it.
Looks a really good truck for the money do they sell in the UK. At 9.28 you show the bottom of the truck and the bottom right hand tyre is installed the wrong way round.
Quite actual. Still, this truck is the crawler I'd buy if I were to slow down a bit. I love International trucks. For 299, I may have 200 more to make it fine and unique to my personal specs. Redcat is delivering again and I believe in their brand and vision.
It looks nice, I’ll stick with WPL tho, mostly cause it’s 1/16 and to scale with my RC tanks I would be interested in your thoughts of the WPLs You think that $200 is affordable? These are really cheap and are really nice, WPL has been improving over time and it’s pretty awesome
I'm broke just bought the Gen 8. Currently saving up for a charger and battery. What should I get? Im new to this and low on funds I don't wanna break the bank. A link would be appreciated.
Yeah, but the Traxxas vehicle you mentioned comes with a lot more mechanicly going for it, F&R locking/unlocking diffs, 2 speed transmission and the tires and foam it comes with are of better quality; I own both, I know. The TRX-4 version you visually referenced in your video is in another class; there is also the less pricier Sport version,, that retains the 2-speed transmission which is still superior to the Gen 8. As I stated, I own both these vehicles, 3 TRX-4 and one Gen 8, I hardly ever run the Gen 8. Two different vehicles. I enjoyed your video, it is very well done, however I feel that the Gen 8 is better served when it's merits are featured as opposed to being compared to the TRX-4, just my opinion. Thank You for sharing!
One Scale Trail running rig sitting on the shelf, ain't no where near enough! Neither is five of them sitting on the shelf!! It's a minimum of 10 easy, sitting on the shelf, and every one of them is needing modified!!!!! ;)
lol... they are like Lays Potato Chips or Pokemon Gotta Catch 'Em All. Embarrassed me to say the other day when asked how many I was up to.. had to write them down to count them, 27. And your right, everyone of them needed something.
Can anyone recommend me some good LiPo batteries and chargers to use with this car? I would love to start into the scale rc crawling hobby but i don't know what batteries to use. I have found some 3s 2200mah 25c batteries that i'd like to use but i dont know if they'll suffice.
Venom 5000 20c 11.1v 3 cell Is the best one I've found so far, they last a very long time. Make sure that they come with different adapters. If you have other trucks, you can use this on it. You just switch out the adapter for your different trucks. I'm not sure what kind of charger your looking for. Just do some looking around on the internet and find one that suits you. They're around 60$ because the adapters. And the battery you found would work. The flareon lipo batterys work very well. Just make sure you dont overcharge the lipo battery because it kind of dangerous. There are a couple things that are kind of a flaw to the truck. With mine, one of the front shocks were overfilled and there's a bump in the bottom of the truck that catches on things sometimes, and some of the gears were not greased. Overall, it's a very capable truck. Not quite overpowered as the trx4 sport but very good
the price tag with a a good performance base just made it too irresistible to pass up. Definitely didn't need it and have other rigs that out perform and are more durable. No reason I can't make the Scout do just as well from what is offered, especially with that body. Really my only complaint so far is the size when compared to other "1/10", makes it a bit odd when out with the others.
@@stpbasss3773 The IH Scout II has a 100" wheelbase and is 70" wide, so this scale replica should only be 10" wheelbase and 7" wide. Most of the RC manufacturers are a bit liberal with the scale detail. RC4WD is about the only one that does a fairly good job of "1/10 Scale". Comparing the Gen8 Scout to the Traxxas Ford Bronco here, I will show the actual size to the "scale": Scout II Wheelbase - 100"/12.75" Width - 70"/9.8" Overall Length - 166.2"/22.48" Traxxas Bronco Wb - 104"/12.28" Width - 79.3/9.78" Overall Length - 180.3/20.57" Even though both scale trucks are above as listed being 1/10, the Scout is even more exaggerated and shows to be larger than the Bronco, while in 1:1 it is a smaller truck. It shouldn't be a deal breaker if your not worried about such, it still is a remarkable rig for the money and as long as it doesn't bother you when out with other rigs then just enjoy the ride.
Wow. I follow a lot of RC channels, but you've sold me on the scout II. Now I just need to decide If I'm getting this truck for me or for my son. >_> Does a 5 year old need a 1/10 scale crawler of this caliber? No. Should I get it anyway? Yes.
I wouldn't put it past the grimey lawyers over at Traxxas to try and sue over something they didn't even come close to creating! Traxxas has NOT been making many friends lately with their slimy corporate tactics. I used to like them, but absolutely draw the line when they use the courts and their $$$ to gain a competitive advantage instead of letting their products (Which many are great.) do the talking.
Nothing holds up if you dont take care of it or if you excessively abuse it. That being said im very happy with my redcat stuff. I abuse it on a regular basis and so far (as long as everything would've been greased proper) broke a c hub and wore out some rod ends

Well you get smaller bearings, plastic gears and cheap plastic (Which oddly is better than their last plastic). The Scout was the very first vehicle that we call the SUV today. The ford Bronco and Chevy Blazer were competitors to it
