I'm gonna do this even when I'm losing. "Okay now he passed my guard and now he's got side control. Okay now he's mounted and is choking me. Goodnight!"
It's like watching a Bob Ross PBS painting video.... "And over here, we're just going to put a nice happy Triangle, maybe a knee-on-belly. And then, over here, we'll have a fluffy cross collar choke. There it is. Nice. Just a happy little choke."
Keenan must have been off that day, almost immediately the white belt nearly got an armbar on him. She's got great potential hanging with high level blackbelts like that.
so i see my opponent is very light on the feet, so im going to grab their collar, and suplex them to their demise. now i lock the arm bar, and thats it.
KC's rep precedes him as a world class JJ player and I have seen him demonstrate his skill on numerous occasions but I am even more impressed by his interactions with these students of varying levels of experience. Kudos to you Mr. Cornelius. You seem like a really class act. Best of luck to you.
It's like playing chess and telling your partner what your moves are going to be. They know what you're going to do, but they can't stop it. That's boss.
Well it's not like he narrated every single little detail of everything, which would be impossible. And often he says what his move is right after he did it or simultaneously. But the analogy still partly applies, somewhat. It's a matter of the difference between knowing what the moves are, versus knowing what they entail, *why* they are done, the ultimate purpose and strategy behind the moves. The people Keenan is rolling with don't understand Jiu-Jitsu on the level that Keenan does, so he can tell them some information on what he's doing but they can't quite deduce his next moves or figure out a foil or counter to his plans because they don't fully grasp what his overall plans are. Sometimes they do foil parts of his plans by defending some aspect of what he's doing. Sometimes him announcing what he was attempting was indeed the cause of that. But like a chess grandmaster, Keenan was confident that he has alternative ways around their defenses, or counters to their counters. He even intentionally plays off of that at times - baits his opponent to defend a move that he's announcing, and then uses that anticipated defense as part of his plan to get them into even deeper trouble. Sometimes it's all part of his master plan. Other times his plans get foiled but his mastery of BJJ is such that he can instantly devise new plans on the spot.
My brother, you’ve got such an amazing and humble attitude with students. Many are blessed with the skills, but few honor it and represent it with as much respect. I hope we can train together someday, I would learn a lot. A felllow BB.
The sparring matchup I'm most impressed by is the one he did with the older female white belt. It's just a super basic thing to teach but to take that time to educate not only the video audience but also someone without any outstanding athletic ability and guide them through a couple of basic technique while there is a line waiting to grapple with you speaks of the character of the man. Really impressive
Hahahahaha. "On one of these bumps, I'm going to throw the choke on." Hahahaha just telling you how he is about to destroy you and you still walk right into it hahaha.
I rolled with Cobrinha at a seminar once, and he basically narrated the whole thing like this while he was climbing on me like a jungle gym. It was hilarious and informative and absolutely delightful.
This is the best tutorial type video that I have ever seen. And I have been training for over 9 years now. I don't think I have ever seen anyone verbally explain what they were doing while rolling. This is on a lower/beginner level, but you should do more intermediate and advanced tutorial the same way! This is amazing Keenan, more please!!
Oh, and the single leg counter to omoplata at 33:58 was beautiful. Roll through to counter the single leg attempt, attack the triangle, miss the triangle and hit the omoplata. Gorgeous, bravo.
Brilliant instruction and you have such a nice way about you when you interact with the different students - so focused on meeting them at their level and providing them with a good learning experience. No ego or bravado. You seem like a great teacher and all round good person doing something positive in the world! Keep doing you on matter what!

This is amazing. This should be a requirement for every white belt to watch. He talks about what his thought process is throughout his entire roll on what you should look for and what to do if you are stuck in a situation. I would love to see more of this.
This is really awesome. I've already watched through twice. Just so many details. Thank you for doing this, and thank you to all the students that agree'd to do it with you.
This was a very entertaining watch lol. I'm no martial artist but I've always been fascinated by videos like these. It's awesome to hear the experts explain how they do it.
This was so awesome to watch! You often have to watch a video over and over again to figure out moves and what someone is doing. KC explaining it provides the big picture. Great stuff!
I greatly appreciate this improvisational, action-reaction based teaching presentation much more than a static, conceptual or specific technical lesson. I like what Keenan said about caging the hips. I do this a lot and don’t feel the need to pressure punish everyone on bottom for no reason. Great video. Thank you!
Man I've been a blue belt for a year and have learned a lot from youtube but this is probably one of the most educationally complete videos I have seen. Even though take downs were not the highlight of the video this reflects how great you are at teaching.. thanks for the content

Lmao Thank you for sharing things like this with us. Thanks for putting your ideas out there and helping everyone get better - and if not better, then inspired. Pretty cool to see these older students (I'm old too) getting in their and doing their best. So many people their age are sitting on the couch playing with the flicker....but these savages are coming home from a full day of work and putting on their gi to get beat down. Good for them! Have to respect that. When you know your time has passed to probably become world class level but you show up anyway.
It would've been kinda funny though if he just went all out on Alice and ragdolled her and then choked her out in less than 30 seconds like it was a competition

Right?! Hahaha. "Just a little bit of blue-belt. Just a liiiiiiitle bit of blue-belt."
Yo I loved that show :)
Ha ha, haven’t watched the entire video yet but that Blue who’s submitted @ 10:24 is pretty good...
Ha ha @ 30:10 “...if done right no defend...”

And then he called her a he. Lol
After watching this I've decided to promote myself to purple belt.
Hey! Congratulations on your promotion
Congratulations man another 2 hours of watching KC's videos and you're gonna be a black belt don't give up

Imagine a street fight with Keenan and he's just happily narrating the whole thing whilst your soul is slowly stolen from you.
Just slowly get strangled knowing you have know control over what he’s doing.
I "threatened" to shoot a double leg on him if I see him in the street.. we'll see what happens
Until your friend runs over and kicks him in the head whilst he street fights you on the floor.

must be creepy hearing someone narrating your demise.
Very anime-esque ain't it?
Yes .. ask Donald Trump
I do it constantly with my students and they learn really fast and do not repeat often same mistakes.
38:14 Just look at his face
Lol yeah. I'd start doing it back, but failing to deliver

Keenan: I’m gonna hold your lapel

I really liked this comment lol.
I'm trying sooooo hard not to be that white belt XD
Spazz lol
I dream to get to a level where I can say "next" after each roll.
Is not that much. If you fight new guys and have a little cardio you can do that. I've done that in class and I suck at bjj haha.
Hey we meet again. I love your music and I love that you roll.

Jason

The fact that he has the stamina to talk while rolling is baffling
So are we all just gonna skip over the amazing job the camera man did?

Well, it´s like being a pro basketball player playing with retired people and amateurs.
Well in chess you do know what your opponents moves are. You have the same information as your opponent.
the other players dont know how to respond physically ; they dont have the arsenal of moves
