What growth this character had! In seasons one and two he was so annoying, but by seasons 3 and 4 he became so likable. By the time he left, we were all sorry to see him go :( It's a shame he was never in a spinoff.

I never had anything against Wil Wheaton's character. But interestingly, I feel his best episode was after he had been reduced to a recurring guest star. (S5 ep 6 "The Game") While I consider the original "Star Trek" a little better, I feel "Star Trek-Next Generation" was better at giving each character a few episodes that revolved around them.
There was a deleted scene in Nemesis where Wesley was back in Starfleet. Maybe the series Picard could feature him as Captain of the Enterprise. Heck I want McFadden to make a cameo as well for her to finally drop the bomb we've always suspected and tell Picard Wesley is his son.

It turned out the Traveller had AIDS. Wesley contracted it too from the Traveller’s bodily fluids and the two of them died within six months of leaving the ship. RIP Wesley.

I personally think it was a mistake to have Wesley rejoin Starfleet in "Star Trek: Nemesis". One, because it was in a way fan service to have Wesley get ready to serve aboard the Titan with Riker & Troi. And two, because in a way it defeats the purpose for Wesley to grow further as a character. He's not taking the "next step" in his evolution....
They said cut, everyone asked if he was gone and had a party😂. The fact he became a Traveller also means that Star Trek Nemesis, where they have the deleted scene of Wesley, could have been an alternate time line since he did change 100 years of history as stated in Picard.

He IS a traveler. He doesn’t need a transporter. He can concentrate, focus on the destination, and step through space-time. It’s silly how they introduce the concept of the traveler early on, then ignore it for years.
I bet the guy who advised on this episode was also the fake native American who spouted all that crap that was in Chakotay's backstory, then when he got called out for being full of shit the Voyager producers were so embarrassed they ignored Chakotay for the rest of the show.
I think there was a contact dispute as to why Will left the show. Everyone on the show was getting raises and Will Wheaton didn't get one. They offered him a promotion on the ship instead. That didn't set well with him. Plus he wanted to do more films.
Denise Crosby felt her role on the show was being diminished with her being given very little to do...so she asked to be written out of the show...aka have her character killed off.
Wheaton decided to go out of the series because he didn't want to play secondary characters anymore. Anyway I doubt that he started play something more significant afterwards.....
They really should reunite Picard and Wesley fully on a season of Picard even though I haven't watched it yet I know Wesley now a Traveler had a cameo in Picard Season 2. As disappointed as Picard is here for Wesley resigning from Starfleet I think he was proud of him for forging his own path.
