    Love your tutorials! I am new at Zbrush and we have to 3d model 2 characters for my class and your tutorials on Skill share has helped a bunch! You make things easier. Especially using materials. There were a few I watched that made me think my materials weren't working right and I wasn't able to get just one part of my character with a certain material.

    Everytime I figure out Zbrush and then leave it I completely forget how to do anything because the UI is not very intuitive.. Thank you for this it was very helpful to quickly jump back in!

    This was insanely digestible and informative. I'm about to start making characters in ZBrush to try and get good at it; This guide will be super helpful once the model is done. I do have a question though, about software. When putting color to a character, is it better to use ZBrush's poly paint or Substance Painter?
    I know Substance is dedicated to color and texture, so it is most likely better, but I do not know how you would export the model from ZBrush to be used in Substance.
    I have mostly done hard surface stuff in Maya and used Substance to add the color. I know how the UVs and object separation work from Maya to Substance, but not ZBrush to Substance.

      Knight Fish Thank you! 🙏 I’m glad you found it useful! And in a nutshell, Substance Painter only requires that your Object has UV’s, which Zbrush is not the greatest at. I typically do my UV’s in Blender and export as an Obj file to Substance painter. Poly painting in Zbrush can be exported if your object has UV’s. Poly painting can be useful for a quick presentation if you want to show something off quickly, but Substance Painter is far superior because you can apply other custom textures like Roughness, Normals, and many more.

      Haha I don’t know why they do it that way. 😂😂 Maybe some day they will make it like Blender/Maya/3DS Max. Zbrush is becoming more and more popular all the time!

    could you do a full body armour tutorial e.g. berserk armour
    it's got lots of seperate parts as a armour

      Shivam 243 I do love me some Berserk. 👍 I’ll put something together. Making a full body set takes a long time, so it may have to be broken down into several videos.

    Thank you, I'm gonna paint my model after finishing the hair. But I have this question, I heard polypaint depends on the resolution of the model, so let say I remesh my model for a clean topology then the polypaint not gonna looks very good since the resolution is significantly decreased ?

      That is correct, it does depend on the resolution/polycount. If you want to keep the detail of your polypaint, be sure to clean up the topology with Zremesher BEFORE doing any detailed painting.
      Once you’ve Zremeshed and reduced the polycount to the desired amount, subdivide your model a few times by pressing ctrl + D until you have the desired density for your polypaint. Then you can paint on the highest subdivision level for the best resolution.
      Later on, you can create your UV’s on the lowest subdivision level and export the texture (from the highest subd level) with the lower resolution mesh (whichever subdivision level you’d like).

    This is great! Wondering when would you normally use materials within zbrush vs using materials from a external renderer(keyshot, blender, etc)? I'm also assuming polypainting is most often used on faces or characters?

      That’s a great question!
      It all depends on how your textures look in whichever program you’re using, and how you want them to look for your end product.
      Polypaint just gives artists an easy way to create hand-painted textures on a model, which can be transferred out of Zbrush if you choose.
      It all starts with making sure your object/character has clean UV’s.
      In Zbrush you can generate a texture map from your polypaint and send it to another program. The textures from Zbrush will look different in a renderer like Cycles or Maya or 3DS Max because of lighting and other factors.
      Its best to play around with materials and textures in different programs to see what works best for you and what looks best for the project in the end.
      For instance, if you are just doing a sculpt with polypaint in Zbrush and you’re creating a final image using Photoshop, you may not need your UV’s to look nice or worry about materials outside of Zbrush.
      However, if you’re making something like a Game asset or character, you may need to export your sculpt and polypaint to Blender/Maya/3DS Max, or just forget polypaint altogether and do your texturing within the other program.

      @@Gatz3D ok thanks, I think I hear what you're sayin. I'm still fairly new with zbrush only creating sculpts as a standalone image so I'm trying to find the most efficient way. I don't really know any of the other 3D programs(except cinema 4D) so I'm unsure of the process but I do see ppl do great work. I just find after the sculpt, I'm kind of lost in my next steps of texturing/rendering, but your answers have given me some more insights.
