I really tried to use the devices but no productive results so far. I can make scale change with the M4L devices but the resulting sound is not melodic at all. Hopefully one day Ableton will release a version with a built in harmony changing device like other daws (eg. Cubase). For now I'm going back to old fashion brick and mortar midi writing. Thank you for the effort though.
Hey - it is a little sturdy at the start as you would need to make sure that all clips have scale awareness de-activated. Then of course ‚only‘ being in the same harmony or using the circle of fifth doesnt necessarily mean that its all gonna sound great - BUT its a great tool if you stuck and reproduce the same chord progressions/movements and if you want to explore new combinations
Update to this comment on: August 16th , 2024: Indeed it was my mistake also caused by the way Abletons Scale Aware System was build. But now everything works perfectly fine with the purchased Sender and Reciver Tools. I highly recommend to use the tool in order to easily automate and change the root and scale in a complex project! It also works in Ableton 12.1 Beta. ---original comment from 15th of August 2024 Hey Ive purchased your Tools and It does not work, Automate Global Scale Awareness for Live 12 is changeing not all Midi Clips to the right scale...is there any chance you fix this issue? I previously have animated the scale on some of these tracks.. deleted the Scale device, and so the automations....so the global scale will not triggered correctly.
Hey Alex - I m sorry but it sounds like there is a misunderstanding here - my technique is NOT changing notes of midi clips but changing the scales the SCALE device sets the note pitches to. This is what I show and explain in the video here. Please get in touch via email if you have more questions.
@@Alexs_Music_Comps Just replied to your email but just here as well so for other peeps who are reading this: Ableton's integration of Scale Awareness IS NOT a global setting, IF MIDI clips are present on a MIDI track and IF they are 'Scale Aware ACTIVE' then the current playing will define the Scale Awareness for all Scale Aware MIDI effects on this track. The top display of Scale Mode/Root/Scale is just showing the current scale of a the clip which is selected, it is NOT a GLOBAL setting. BUT, and thats where Ableton's integration is irritating, IF you don't have a Scale Aware MIDI clip on this track playing the MIDI effects will follow the current setting of the Scale Awareness Top Root/Scale display. So in fact there IS some (unintended?) GLOBAL behaviour happening here but only for MIDI effects for MIDI tracks without MIDI clips- AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! This is very confusing and Ableton clearly failed to make this user friendly. TO CUT A LONG STORY SHORT: IN CASE you want some flexible Global Scale Awareness being applied to MIDI clips playing notes you want to TURN OFF Ableton's native Scale Awareness and (only) use my technique for setting and forwarding Root+Scale Setting to SCALE Midi effects globally like explained here: ruclips.net/video/MpGtK5LZ1Pc/видео.htmlsi=RNZHPldHl110HbT8&t=1217
@@abletondrummer Thank you for your support and help it works now as expected. I did not understand the issues with Ableton. I have updated the original comment with a new Updated Version for Transparency.

Have you ever used or seen the Scaler 2 program?

@@abletondrummer okay, yeah I understand that, but it does not work. Are there changes in the scale awareness system between 12 and 12.1?

For now, I'm happier if I just pretend that Scale Awareness doesn't exist. It's just too confusing and not so useful (I know my scales !).
the implementation of scale in live is soooo not thought through
How would you prefer it to be integrated? What functions would you have done differently?
