Thanks for the good upgrade information and for sparing us "another" sharpening tutorial.

I’ve wanted that sharpener for a while now and my girlfriend watched this video with me. She ordered it for me without me knowing. It came in yesterday and man this thing is awesome! I was able to fix the horrible, almost non existent edge Case put on the clip blade of the trapper I have.

@@ThriftyKaniffy no bud I always used stones……. Not expensive ones but I get excellent results I do use my Spyderco sharp maker after I use the stones to knock the burr off!!!!! Then I use my strop block that’s my weapon and I’m done

I bought one of these based on watching your channel and it is awesome! I wanted it more for my good German kitchen knives but it will also be perfect for my collection of vintage pocket knives and EDCs.

I've found the system to be very useful and it's the main one I use now. It takes some practice to be your best, but that comes with time.

IF you use the lapping... forgot to mention you should sharpen in one direction away from the edge. Otherwise you risk of tearing the paper. Thanks Elphoenix.

Great overview. The lapping paper tip with the 3D printed parts was great. Razor sharp and mirror polish is easily achieved with this.

Those are some good upgrades. I have the basic system. The aftermarket on this system is neat. A lot of people like the system and are looking at improving it, so it will be around for a while!

It's a great basic system. Looks like great accessories. I'm very happy with my basic system. You can get a hard side carrying case on Amazon for around 20 dollars.

There's a lot of 3rd party support for this system, which is nice to see.

If you want to be more Thrifty then you can use Aleene’s TACK-IT Over & Over instead of the 3M adhesive. The Tack It is only $5.65 on Amazon for a 4oz bottle and a little goes a long way. I have used it for a piece of leather on the ceramic stone and it worked great - cleaned off of the ceramic easily and left plenty of adhesive on the leather to be used several more times with the one application. Works just as well with sandpaper on the ceramic.

Thanks for the tip BPS. Probably gonna be a long time before I need more adhesive for me persobally, the 3M tube is gonna last a very long time.

Looked what price they are over here, still pretty reasonable. I've used a system in the past but it was a chef's so of course it didn't like the Barlow or Whittler type small blades, put me off somewhat. I could see this work sharp turning up here!!!

    • @ThriftyKaniffy
      @ThriftyKaniffy  2 года назад +1

It's not without flaws, but compared with it's like-priced competition and the 3rd party support it receives, it's the budget choice in my estimation.

  • @paul_dz

like the idea of using sandpaper - have you had good results going with sandpaper? suppose does not last too long, but with a lot lower price you can still replace frequently without too much concern

    • @ThriftyKaniffy

I've done fine with it, just need to keep it fresh. I'd still use the included stone for the real hard re-profiling jobs.

You're right it only takes a light amount of pressure, but with larger knives especially it really does move quite a bit and gets worse over time.
