- Samsung Galaxy Flagship phones and Galaxy Tabs come with a Feature called Dex Mode. It is even though a blown-up android. But Samsung Dex Mode features a lot of features, flexibility, and full monitor support. That allowed me to use the Samsung Dex to replace my computer totally. But is it That Good of a computer replacement? And should You give Dex Mode a try?

Dex is incredible, been using it since the Note 8. 6 months ago my main PC died and I started just using Dex full time and haven't missed my pc enough to replace it. Even gaming on Dex is on par with what I was playing before, call of duty mobile and Diablo immortal being the 2 I enjoy the most on my 54 inch tv. The best thing is when traveling I've got it in my pocket! The days of using a Compaq Pocket Pc and a cell phone on the road have finnaly matured, 1 device and a terabite of strorage with an all day battery. jus wish they would add a laser projector in the phone too!
But app support won't be there, right? How is the browsing experience and chrome won't have extensions right?

@@vincwong8498 the dex idea is really interesting but a better option is windows should optimize each apps and go big on asking dev team to build on arm since arm is the future. That way it can really optimize for small devices to perform brilliantly. Windows never really did focus on revolutionizing mobile. Just a lil effort on symbian. They have the budget and the expertise
Yep. I sometime still use Dex on my old Note 8. But it's way better on S22 Ultra and my Tab S7 Plus. If you have a later model Galaxy device and not using Dex, You're missing out bigtime.
I love dex. been using it since the s8+. It may be my phone but the s8+, s21 and s23 all overheat but I use a 4" usb fan for extra cooling. I installed finelock and got dex to 4K and displaying more than the 5 app limit. been my full time desktop replacement since the s21.

for me, the Microsoft office, which is not the full version, is the main problem of the Dex
the top : zfold3 + lapdock... office suite : hamcom office. The TOP !!!!!! Mode DEX !!!!
How do you get the icons of the apps highlighted in the Taskbar? I mean the little whitebar on top of the icons? Is that a setting that has to be turned on?
If Microsoft was able to accomplish the current feats with Gamepass, Windows should have a similar experience.
I have been using DeX from my Note8. While it doesn't completely replace my Windows laptop because of Android's limitation as a desktop OS in the first place, it does become my go-to devcie whenever I only want to do basic document work and web browsing. It become more useful when you are travelling light without bringing the laptop.

Amazing. I have heard of DEX for a long time but always thought it was gimicky. Never imagined it could be a full desktop replacement.

Samsung probably won't put both andoird/windows on the same device, they'd have to pay royalties to both companies then
I can believe that. If they do that, the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z will be even more expensive than what we have right now.

I have been wanting to try out Dex, but like you, my ultimate goal is Windows implementation. The closest thing I've been was Continuum with my Lumia 950 XL. Which was awesome! With Windows 10 mobile, plug your phone into the dock that's plugged into the monitor. It was great! It saved me a couple of times when my Macbook was on the fritz. All those hopes of that experience getting better died with Windows 10 mobile. Then I purchased the Surface Duo by Microsoft and while it wouldn't go into a Dex type mode or a Windows experience, it would hook up to a monitor and I could get basic productivity stuff done with Office 365. Here's to hoping for something greater in the future!
Exactly. I think we will have to wait till windows 12, which will have native and better support for ARM based pc. So there's a big chance samsung might take that advantage.. because samsung after a long, trying to do big changes to the DeX
I have been using Motorola ready for and is Great. I use andronix and run debian side by side w/ ready for.
I wanted to ask about docking stations. If you use one - Aren't you worried about overcharging the battery/shortening its life? Since it's charging constantly. Or about connecting your phone to an external monitor (on daily basis).
I found no workaround for this issue saldy and want to use an external monitor that has OLED touchscreen. Couldn't find anything that had a battery (monitors with batteries), OLED and a price that is not something bad completely.
I was thinking about Magedok 13,3 fullhd OLED touchscreen. Close enough to Asus zenscreen OLED 13,3 (can't get the later in my country for a long time from now still).
I have some questions, maybe you can help.
1. Firstly, Does plugging the power source (to the monitor) stop phone battery drainage? Does it even slow it? I watched reviews, but all they say is that plugging the monitor I can just boost the brightness. So I'm worried it would still consume my phone's battery even when I connect my monitor to energy source (using it's charger).
2. Secondly, if instead the phone is ALSO CHARGED when monitor uses its own charger - Is there any way for me to stop charging my phone when it's not needed? Having the phone charging constantly is very destructive for the battery in smartphones (I had one exploding in the past from being charged too often).
3. If it's not possible to stop charging the phone (when monitor is charging with its own charger) - Can I disconnect the charger from monitor and run the monitor using my phone only (with my phone's battery as the only energy source)? Then I could simply drain the battery to the moment where charging is okay once more (and connect monitor to its charger again).
4. Here I'm worried that 4k OLED could have a bigger energy consumption and won't run with my phone without plugging the monitor into its charger, as I'm interested in either their fullhd or 4k option (I use it pretty close to my face and do very detilaed work so even with small screen it still matters to me).
To make your task easier - My phone is Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. It has battery 4500 mAh (if this info helps you with anything).
First of all todays phones are smart enough to not overcharge the device. Even when it shows 100 percent it’s close to 100 percent. It usually don’t affect the battery health. I have been using many different devices connected to monitors while it’s also fully charged. But no issues so far. But do keep this in mind the phone might get warm. Download battery saver widget reborn app to keep an eye on the temperature. Don’t let it go cross 45 deg Celsius.. that’s no good for battery.. :)

Thanks for response. You are right, there is also a battery charging limit in Samsung. Although no one mentions it online (saw people just writing about the need to root the phone).
I'm thinking about buying a docking station additionally. My worry here is that when I plug the monitor to its power source it may still drain my phone. I had this happening to me when connecting to TV, it drains battery like crazy besides having it's own power source.
I was recommended to look for docking stations that have GaN technology. Like Baseus or Belkin.
Maybe you know anything here worth recommending?

Why media pages "Google Discover" and "Samsung Free" cannot run on Samsung Dex? In-fact Home Screen Settings can't run on Dex.
Does OTT applications like Netflix, Amazon prime, etc works on Dex anymore?
Can’t really say as I don’t use these applications but some of these OTT applications usually wont work . Because they restrict the casting feature. Which most applications think they are in casting mode when used in DEX mode.

You can connect to amuly monitor or tv or anything that supports HDMI or VGA input
I open more than 5 apps. It depends on the hub you are using to conect the phone to power, hdmi, etc. I use the Skull & Candy hub for Nintendo switch.
Good lock allows infinite app opening now … i got the update after the review :) i have opened 16 at the very least.. which is crazy

They work how you want.. they will scale amazingly well..
Can you format a hard drive via dex? Or, do you have to format on PC first?
I haven’t done on android/dex but I don’t think it’s possible..

I have a seperate laptop for large capacity storage and use VNC to access it via dex and SMB to access the file system from dex.
All I need is a full fledge ubuntu like console on the go to ssh the world. Dex is the future
I think samsung has some major plans for DeX .. that's why they haven't been promoting this feature nowadays
Thank you Sir.But please help .When I connect Tab S9 plus with monitor,though Dex mode is activated only video plays on the screen:No sound on the monitor ,but both Video and voice is on the Tab .Same is the problem when my S 22 Ultra mobile is connected .A message was shown saying " TAP THE TOUCH PAD ICON ON THE NAVIGATION BAR".I have no idea? My both systems are android from Samsung.
You can use an option in the notification panel called device/manage devices/media output below the toggles usually to switch the playback from the phone to the monitor

it does consume a lot but i will suggest you charge at the same time using any usb c hub
Yea the battery consumption for S22 Ultra is faster.. But on the S23 Ultra, the battery management is so much better. And the charging is fast too.. I suggest u get the S23 Ultra.

Tried it today, I can't inspect elements on any browser likei can on any other desctop browsers and i cant play games with mouse and keyboard, they all show touch controls, it needs imrovement to be more real desktop like
You can use a keyboard mapper for games... I know red magic has this built-in to their phones
with a system that has 8 gigs of ram and 512 gigs of storage....the S23 ultra is a beast , and having modles that can go in to the 1 terabyte..why would you need an SD card...just grab a SSD external drive and kaboom, you have all the storage you need. and you can upload for those external drives.

Any good usb c hub would do the job that has pd port for charging and usb a ports and definitely HDMI.
Keyboard that I’m using and I can recommend is Logitech k480 or k380 and any decent Logitech mouse is fine. Mine is m337

You have to connect to an monitor or TV :)
My main problem with Dex is no spell checker when using their email app, and an external Bluetooth keyboard.

Dex is not supported on S8 and you can open more then 5 windows on DEX.
DeX works on the S8 with a dock. Yes i will make an updated video on DeX .. using good lock you can open unlimited apps at a time
Atleast make it a chrome book add back linux support which was removed with android 10 I don't know why because linux is what seperated samsung dex from android hopefully later part of android 13 or 14 will add that back plus I would like to see chrome os atleast like multitasking, some desktop software like devenci, remove the limitation of 5 tabs max like that is atleast what I'd like to see as for the minimize and close tab the old one looked more pleasing and more like dex I don't like the new interface
You can have more than 5 apps at the same time . I have tested after this video, where im able to have more than 16 apps at the same time on the monitor. You can do this using goodlock module.

I can open infinite apps but I can't let's suppose I want to open 6 windows of the same app on screen on in the background and it always says can't open more than 5 app even though it should be called tabs on samsung dex.

In my case it didn’t.. it surely gets warm but not more than 40 deg on battery widget reborn. I have used it on the s10 series as well and it works flawlessly

Windows on arm is terrible, I wouldn't want on a phone, let alone an actual laptop. To me arm laptops are a total scam. If it is not a 64/32-bit processor I don't consider it a laptop because not all desktop applications are supported on arm. Samsung Dex is a lightweight feature that is meant to utilise that 12gb ram and snapdragon processors on the S23 in a way not possible on android operating systems. Also adding windows to the phone would result in license fees making the phone even more expensive.
Dont get me wrong, i like Dex a lot. Other companies couldn’t even do it properly.. samsung at least did the best possible way. Im hoping one day they will improve maybe with windows 12.. because i feel ARM is the future

Can not span monitors through a hub that has HDMI and VGA output that both work at same time. I have a hub that can mirror the same DEX desktop at the same time across three monitors, but can not span the monitors. Unbelievable useless nonsense.
Actually the hub isn't able to do that.. it's a same thing for anything like a PC and Mac.. you need to have thunderbolt dock and thunderbolt supported USB c port to do what you need
Yes it is. Hubs to output two signals to two different monitors have been around for some years.
The USB 3.2 port on my Samsung S21 and My Huawei P30 will run two monitors simultaneously (but only mirrored)
through my Aukey hub.

This function is since deprecated (by Displaylink I suppose) but it used to work. As you can see in the video the driver used to allow spanning of monitors, but now only allows mirroring.
Stop upselling samsung dex, it's just samsungs version of windows launcher, it doesn't being any pc like functionality. Add Linux support, bring full windows functionality taskbar, fix the app drawer and make it look, feel and work like desktop, integrate 2ⁿᵈ screen functionality to samsung dex and the ctrl + k key functionality, full windows level on multitasking and allow us to side load our windows apps to samsung dex in fact bring devenci like iPad os is bringing. Samsung dex hasn't changed besides adding wireless dex. I'd like to c tabs become laptop replacement like I'd love to see waterdown Mac os version for iPads and water down windows 12 for android tablets.
I’m just showing what it is. And what worked for me at that time. It will work for many, not for all. I even want windows on arm on more tablets but companies seem to not care as much. Currently i do own M1 Ipad Pro with ipadOS 16.1 using it as a computer replacement for your kind information :)
@@XTechByJoinTheAvid to be honest iPad is a better computer replacement on paper samsung appears better because they have dex but they don't have any software feature which truly makes it or even close to a laptop replacement, I'd honestly like to see laptop being discountinued and exist in the form factor of a 2 in 1 tab
