I found out that in my E46 when you pull the left lever up or down before turning, theres an indicator on either side which shows other drivers where you are going.

That turn signal parking light thing has been a "hidden" feature on BMWs for many years. My E28 from 1985 also has it.
Yes, typically German cars have it. In a Mercedes-Benz it's not so hidden, it's different positions on the lights switch.
Every german car has this feature, also my audi from 1994. Sorry for my english
It's called parking lights and in Germany/Austria it used to be mandatory.
In the UK its a legal requirement to use them when parking on any road with a speed limit over 40mph, although I've never seen them being used.
My 2003 VW polo had it lol it's a common feature

But you can look it up in the manual. I don't know how everyone is so amazed by this feature.
When I found out, I was used to new cars having it and tried it out. It was only about half a second before I would have stopped pressing the button and thought it doesn't have the feature.
Most BMWs have the feature as do MINI Coopers.

Feature no.4, most cars have the 'Parking light' feature for L&R depending on which side of road you parked at night. Maybe it's a normal function for Europe..? Thank you for showing this feature to other BMW users anyhow :)
Dude the e46 had this technology as far back as 99 when the 1st e46s rolled out of Bmw factory are you sure other Ford, Chevrolet, etc had this same tech?

Strange how nobody knows about the parking sidelights even though it's on the stalk, the little P.
They're parking lights so you flick it to the side of the road, so on dark roads your car is visible.

Thanks for good video as great refer for my 320ci 03. Could you please let me know how to use remote key to open or close the rear window? otherwise I have to be going into the car, the key to ignition, then manually close or open the back windows?

The windows up/down via key/remote is called comfort closure or something and it's on older cars like the E36

I coded my car to unlock only the drivers door on the first click. Seems there isn't anyway to press and hold to roll up or down the windows
i need to ask why the sunroof bounces back - because my e46 m3 2001 model does that when i press the key button to close the car. AWESOME TIPS U HAVE

@@mister.c4631 Mine does it perfectly. It does get weird with how hard you hold the button and how close you are. Get closer and hold the button harder and it should work

@@mister.c4631 That might be a reason too mine does the same if I let it sit. I’m also looking to get a remote extender or something because it sucks you have to be within 6 feet to unlock and lock. Glad it worked for you brother!

0:30 Not necessarily tampered.....I changed out my LCM and the dot came on without my mileage skipping a beat. The dealer wanted $300. to get rid of the dot, I told them I liked the dot.
Number 4:is a parking light. Most European cars have them. You learn in the driving school that you have to turn them on if you park on the side of the road otherwise you can get a ticket. It ain't common but it could cost you up to 75€ in Austria.

Like the new cars.. i have a E46 limo .. facelift 2005 .. i really want to upgrade the car -> by locking or Unlocking the car the light.s should be On for 20..30sec... do you know .. were i can find a tutorial HOW to do that?

I don't know if this is a secret but I got one more for you...
If you have your key in the zero position of the ignition and you open the driver door, you get a chime or beeping to notify you that you left something on or key in the ignition. Well if you pull the key it stops the chiming. If you place the key back in the the ignition, driver door open or not, the chiming will NOT start sounding again. Even if you close the driver door and then open it again, it still will not chime again until you've changed the position of the ignition with the key.( Possibly resets after using the fob, time limit, or perhaps something or other... but I haven't test it that in depth.) Hope you didn't know that and you may enjoy the door open with key in ignition with no beeping.

The turn signal/side light feature, i had a 1974 ford cortina which had this feature
When the latch for letting down the back seat gives up. Go to the boot and there is a hole behind the mounting bolts for the latch. Insert screwdriver and move to the side to undo latch.

Not really! After about 1/2 hour the computer shuts them off. Really! My son found that out on my car.
i have all the features a part of the window rolls down , i got convertible e46 so maybe thats why as for the roof to get down you need the engine on ?!

that color is called Stahlgrau Metallic correct? (Steelgray Metallic) my e46 Sedan was the same color
In europe the side park thing doesnt turn on blinker and in the rear the inner bulb goes on and not outer one
the mileage tamper dot like on mine also means someone changed (ie me) theLCM with used one from ebay
Michael Hardy mines have the dot , the owner i bought it frm said he had swap the engine. U think thats the case
Yes that will cause it because all the ecu do not have the same vin number
i think my key battery is just dead, how would the key become un programmed from factory? The keys are 19 years old i’m guessing they haven’t been changed because they’re supposed to recharge but the cars been sitting recently so i doubt they’ve been recharging.
It's normally not the blinkers which are on, it's either the left or right tail- or headlight and it's called the parking lights.
Well at least mine does that, but yours has xenon and i think that's different then

That "tamper dot" doesn't just mean your mileage has been fucked with I replaced my headlight module without coding it and the dot came on because the light module is part of the mileage redundancy feature bit it doesn't mean that the mileage was tampered with always

Yes but it may need to be coded to do it

Funny you say this, Matt just had a similar issue. Check all connections to the battery.

I love the windows down with key feature. If your a dumb @$$ like myself and lose your key snowboarding due to a hole in your coat pocket and haven't gotten a new keyless entry key u can insert the key in the door and hold it to the left to roll them down and to the right to roll them up. Super helpful if you forget to roll a window up once you get out and lock your car.

Anyways, I have to press like 3 times and hold for the windows to come down. I can't roll them back up, and one thing else. When I lock my car up, it doesn't make any noise. The lights just flash and the car locks. How do I go about activating that noise to set the alarm on? Or is my alarm once I lock the car? Thanks.
+jase94 In order to have the windows roll back up with the key you have to code that. I will be making a video so make sure you are subscribed to see it. Secondly do you have the alarm modules installed in your car?
I see! To be honest, I don't know, and I don't think so. I literally just got the car about 3 weeks ago. It came all out of nowhere. The car had only been driven 5k miles the past 2 years by two older couple.

when I do the park blinker' - my headlight on that side stays on instead of the blinker' (Indicator!)

1:40 ermm parking lights feature... It's in every car i have ever driven. Not just BMW. But ye, people don't know about it.
I've put close to 25,000 on my ci and had no idea that the parking turn stalk light function was there. I think I need to dig into the manual some more.

The one about removing your key and putting your indicator on to keep the lights on, thats a feature on all cars and it;s called a parking light, Shame not many people know about it and they just use hazard lights all the time. Also so is the windows on key button is a feature on most cars too

My car is a manual
Nice features but you have to be right close to your BMW E46 for it to work. On my 2017 Hyundai Tucson I can be far away from my car for similar features to work.

All European cars i have owned have had all these functions. Propably standard in EU.
Mercedes and Audi don't have the Close/open window feature... maybe recently they adopted it but in the early 2000s they didn't

So, did some digging and found out that the higher specs or Comfort Editions indeed had this function - but as I did say, I didn't came it across on Audi nor Mercedes from the 90s despite they were high spec.
An Audi A8 I drove closed the windows via key, when locking and holding it in lock position, it will close the windows but not open - and the remote did nothing.
@@ldorman well I dont know about that, its little bit strange that midle class Golf MK3 had that and high class Mercedes didnt
It is not properly coded, that"s why. Any Audi CAN do this
That parking light "feature" isn't a hidden feature in my opinion. Every car I know can do that and in germany you *have to* turn the parking light on if your car is parked and it is hard to see because it is dark or similar
Some of them are only available with the right options
You can also half open windows by releasing the button early.
Also by doing this directly from the keyhole, you can set them in any position you want
You can do that with the remote key by just letting go of the button when the windows are at the desired position
@@EvanGoyuk oh nice! My key is wasted though.. Only works manually. During DIY battery change I noticed someone before me had destroyed the transmitter component by drowning it in clue lol😂 Of course it resulted in splitting it after the second opening

To roll down the windows hold the open button to roll up the windows hold the lock button
@@ssgtpreacher thanks for the response! I'm talking about the separate video you mentioned for closing windows and sunroof. My '04 M3 coupe already opens them, but doesn't close. I tried taking it to two BMW service/dealerships, but they were more interested in convincing me to buy an M2.
