Brent, I commend you. This video was very well done and detailed. I believe anyone watching this how-to-video and attempting to do their own counter-top will have similar results. Nicely done!
Another trick to help get the concrete to settle down in that I've done is of you take a Sawzall blade and grind the teeth off then screw a block of wood to the blade you can then use that contraption in your Sawzall and lay the wood on top of the concrete and vibrate from the top to force concrete down. Then just add more concrete to fill the form back up. Works in a pinch.
Nice job Brent, I have used some of the indoor sealer and shine from countertop solutions with amazing results. Made my own and my daughters countertops. Next three videos I post will be her kitchen. Thanks again for a great video.
Been layin concrete for about 35 years in 2018 thankfully retired from busness but lates a lot of it in my time glad i’m out of it however gotta say great video great job thanks, -clayton
My biggest question about this project was how to figure in the finished dimension of both the fascia material (stone veneer in my case) and the finished concrete top so that the grill would play nicely with both finished surfaces. Your project was the most detailed I’ve seen on the subject and I really appreciate all the time you took. I’m still on the fence between pour in place counters or making a mold and then flipping the counter. I’m a gas log manufacturer so I have a lot of experience with mold making and concrete products but this is new territory for me!
@@deeruckussolutions8772 yup. I went ahead with the project and the initial quality is fantastic. I would never advise anyone without being a true expert so I can’t yet speak to the longevity of the build. My best advice was to simply get all materials on hand first so you can get your best measurements in person. The manufacturers measurements were not accurate enough for me.
😂 I like your style, commentary, and easy to hear voiceover. Great job. Just found your channel and just subscribed. Where have you been all my Covid RUclips watching year? 👍🏽
At 10:25 I noticed a significant bulge along the length of the form. I'm about to do a 10' counter with the same form kit and I'm trying to figure out how to avoid that.
Great catch Justin and that did happen but I just ground it down slightly with that diamond wheel I used and is linked in the bio of the video. To avoid I would make sure to get the mix runnier than I did and if you need to add a clamp You can always do that in the end. Thanks for watching and hope you subscribed.
How did you remove the z form against the vinyl siding? Looks like there is no clearance to remove it. Did you leave it there? If so, did you cover it up with concrete?
Try using the front edge of the sander base against the form, it will hit much harder and work the air out much more efficiently. I have used a thick wet cast concrete and can work just about all the bubbles out
Great to hear and thanks so much for watching. Can you get Countertop form and concrete mix products in the UK or are you going with a different product line? Thanks for the support and hope you subscribed.
BYOT Hi it’s something I’m thinking about at the moment so not at the stage yet for buying products. I don’t think I can buy the formers you used, hopefully I will find a different brand here. Yes I subscribed looking forward to getting some more ideas.
Dude your channel is so addictive and satisfying that a person like me who doesn't even have drilling machine is watching how to make tables😂 amazing content man👍😁
Love hearing that PB. I do all of my own editing and take pride in producing high quality content. Thanks so much for watching and all the support. Greatly appreciated.
Hello Brent, I wonder if cement can be thinner like 1 inch? I have a countertop with tiles(tiles ages along the years), but I want to makeover it, can I pour 1-inch cement on top of it? Or any better idea how I can makeover the countertop without breaking it? Thanks!
Serious question: what is the reason for concrete reinforcement in the middle of the slab? Isn't this where the tension/compression converge and there is no compression and tension? I would think reinforce near the top or bottom depending on tension or compression. Cool forming system
Hi, thanks for sharing your build. We like the color. Did you use any color additives to the mix or sealer? Is the final color represented in the video after 17:00? Thanks!
I've been looking into this form system for a while. Looks like a pretty sweet system. I'm a tile contractor and would love to expand my offerings. This might be the one. And I am wondering if the cost is less or comparable to granite, of course it's also what a customer may want no matter what.
Great to hear bud and thanks so much for watching. As for price the concrete is obviously much less then a solid surface but you also have to take into account the amount of time you are putting in compared to a set it and forget it with granite. Pretty comparable when it’s all said and done.
Good question Joe. In all honesty I don't know what would happen but self leveling products are normally very thin layers since they are so liquidy. Might have to try this out and let you know what i find out. Thanks for watching and the support Joe.
Great to hear William and thanks for watching. I have provided links for all of the products in the description of this video. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.
We all have to start somewhere, Right? Thanks for the kind words Norman and all the support. Lets hit 100K this year and see how long it takes to get to 500K. I bet it will take less time then getting to 100k.
The backer board is just your standard cement board. Then the Ardex OVP is used in lue of stucco. Hope that makes sense Miguel and thanks so much for watching.
Great video - not sure if you still monitor the comments or not, but I did have a very specific question about how you used the z countertop forms along the inside area of the grill cut out. You touched on it briefly in the video, but it wasn’t very clear. I’ll be doing mine this weekend using the same system - would it possible to get clarification? Did you use and modify the square edge (snap off) form or the pre-cast (non-snap off) form?
home depot carries a concrete brand that is pretty much almost pure liquid and it solidifies in 1-2 hours or so. I can see that working better here. There would be no need of screeding or floating at all
Hello, great video! I’ve ordered the countertop forms you’ve linked. Looks like it’ll save a lot of time. A have a question, you mentioned in a previous comment that you used Airtex ovp for the walls. Did you reinforce it with any kind of mesh?
My home is good looking but this house is better haha! This is my friends house I did the project for. Thanks so much for watching and glad you like the video.
There is still a couple of inches from the house to the countertop so I was able to bend it off still. Thanks for watching Armando and hope you enjoyed the video.

Looks awesome and you made this look really easy
Would you recommend using a concrete flow solution to help it self level when pouring?
This is very nice. My question is: the base upon which you pull the concrete mix, when the concrete drys up, do you remove it or you leave it there?
Great question and you just leave the base in place. No way to get it out and it just adds support. Thanks for watching and hope you subscribed.

Word of advice. Use portland cement to go over the entire top to fill in holes then sand it. Won't look like u didn't know what you're doing.

There is still a couple of inches from the house to the countertop so I was able to bend it off still. Thanks for watching Armando and hope you enjoyed the video.
I think putting that much mix in one spot is the primary culprit for the mesh sinking so much.
