Hi Al, A comment on your possum find. Possums living range vary I have seen possums in Canada .They migrate when the weather is warm searching for food and trying to stay away from predators. When the seasons change and the temps. drop the poor critters are stuck where they are,and like you found , they perish but, become a frozen dinner for another animal.LIFE GOES ON. Enjoy your videos S/D in WISC.
I really enjoy your videos. As a southern homesteader (who grew up in the mountains of western PA), I know what 30 inches of snow means for y’all up north. I hope and pray the snow cuts you a break. As for the opossum, I don’t think he ever saw the snow plow coming. 😳
"Our" opossum leaves our birds alone, he even has a name lol. I took preditor proofing pretty seriously and it worked (so far). Btw, his name is George and he's fat from all the cat food my cats willingly share with him. He is absolutely hilarious to watch.
I woke up with a nasty cold/flu this morning and chicken barley soup is exactly what I need!! Pulled two small ckns out of freezer and am making this today!!
Glad to see the weather warm up for you guys, I sure wish it would here! Today was a home day @ -34°C all our critters stayed locked up tight and the tractor is the only thing running, Stay warm guys!❄
I follow a few homestead you tubers.....or "modern-steaders" I shud say.....but urs are the only ones I watch EVERY TIME! I just love everything about you guys.
maybe it's time to get a trail cam (or 2?) to see what's happening out there at night. I have one and I was pretty amazed at all the cats opossums and even one skinny fox that were in my backyard.
Lots of snow and ice coming to the Northeaster part of Missouri today and tomorrow. Bring in the firewood and put on a pot of soup with some good old home-made bread! YUM!
We are enjoying a great 28°C today, but heating up to 44°C by Thursday, again! It is so strange watching you cope with the opposite conditions. Stay safe.
Thumbs up Al, I've Had a great time looking over the build of the outdoor kitchen Awesome work and it looks great, Keeping you and your family in our prayers
We got an inch of snow today and maybe a few more inches tomorrow. Kids will have fun playing in it. Are you sure the possum wasn’t just playing possum?!?! Enjoy the snow and the weekend!
Nope, no ❄snow on the forecast for St.Petersburg /Tampa Florida area . Stay warm everyone in the northern states. Sounds like a curl up by the fireplace with a good novel type of weekend 💕😉with hot cocoa and “homemade”mini marshmallow time. This is the only time of the year here that it is nice to be in Florida.
It's going to be 60 Friday and stay that way until Sunday. Then we go into the teens for a couple of days to go right back to 60s again. That is NC for you. All 4 seasons in a week.
I wanted to thank you for the clip the other day when you made spaghetti in the Instant Pot. I've been looking for an easy one to try, spaghetti is one of my favorite meals. I followed your exact recipe and it turned out PERFECTLY, just like yours! I took the lid off, gave it about 2 stirs and it was ready to eat. I will use it again and again. Thanks!!
No snow in the desert lol.. Just sunshine & birds chirping in Phoenix today, with a high of 70. But that's a Opossum, the only marsupial found in the Americas... A Possum is native to Australia.
Soup looks delicious! Years ago I made a similar soup and asked my husband to keep an eye on it.(before Instapots) Well he thought there wasn't much barley in it so he added more. We ended up with a barley casserole. We still laugh about that. This brought that memory back. That possum is a mystery for sure.
I love how Figaro expresses his irritation with the swishing tail after he escapes Olivia’s hat! Obviously no appreciation for fine craftsmanship! Maybe he’d prefer ear openings next time! 😻
My brother has a sap shed and was finding fruit up on the top wall plate. He found out it was a possum taking stuff from the compost and storing it in the shed. My shaggy dog Effie, is so funny. If I say possum or woodchuck, her ears pop up and she's ready to go hunting. I'm in so. Maine and started seeing possums about 30 years ago.
They've changed the forecast for Missouri. Leastways in the center. They were talking 6 to 8 in snow. But now it's down to like 1 maybe 3 in I'll go with that
So glad the opossum didn't get any of the chickens! I have the same GoPro! You really shouldn't work Olivia so hard! ;-) Riding in that sled is such hard work! I love barley! That soup looks so good! We have a large abundance of wildlife here in the mountains, no shortage on livestock predators for sure! Blessings to all y'all.
Good Morning! We have opossom's in Ovid, Michigan. I don't like them with my chickens. Hope Pluto feels better. We are expecting 2 to 6 in of snow this weekend. We finally have an inch on the ground. I love you guys..God be with You.
Thank you for your videos. Gina's hair looks nice the way it is braided. it was fun to see Olivia enjoying the snow if you pulled her through it. I am in Cincinnati and we are expecting snow to start tomorrow on Saturday. Good luck with the storm when it reaches you. Thank you
Possums can be beneficial if you have issues with ticks, they actually hoover them up and eat them. I think when you moved the rocks around you might have disturbed his den and then he couldn't find a warm place to hibernate and perished.
Have you considered putting a board on the front of the nest boxes, to slow down the drop of nesting material. Also swirl the material so it holds together better.
Hi, the chances of a possum killing your chickens is like you clearing snow with a spoon. I had a possum living under my chicken coop he would come out when I fed scrapes. My chickens were so use to him they didn’t care. Possums eat thousands of ticks they rid you of ticks better than Guinea fowl. Possum have a tough time in the cold and snow.
Don't know what kind of possums you had put they have got our chickens when I was growing up most nasty thing. Seen them craw up in a dead cow and eat.
Watching you put your chicken barley soup reminded my of the chicken gumbo soup we used to sell when I was cooking at the restaurant where I worked. Time to look up that recipe and get out my hot pot.
Get you some rubber feed tubs for winter. When they freeze, you just pop out the ice. Works great. Plus , they are black and will absorb some heat from the sun to help keep it from re-freezing in the daytime. I swear by them for winter for my chickens.
You even have armadillos there now! My nephews bought some hay from Texas and some were in the bales ! A bunch of neighbors did the same and they are everywhere now!
Yes we sure do have opossums here in the south. Going to dip down to the 40s this weekend and that chilly for us locals! Stay safe and warm. Do some of that pre shovelling and stay off the roads if you can.
Po po po Mista Possum. You know he's a rather useful critter, he eats lots of ticks ...... well when him and the ticks aren't frozen solid LOL That's so odd that he was just ........ there. I hope you stack up plenty of firewood for that storm headed your way. Luckily you have a gas stove and wood heat so you're in good shape with staying warm, having coffee and being able to eat. I can't wait to see Olivia holding Tanner while you pull that sled around. You always say what a blessing we are to your family, you're a blessing to those who watch you. It's good to see a young family with such awesome values and work ethic. I had kinda lost a little faith. Much ♥ to the fam!
How much snow ya'll expecting! 15 inches is what claremont is looking at. Of course over here in thailand its in the mid 80's, time to make more lemonade......
Nasty here in Kansas already. We had icy drizzle and light snow spattered yesterday. It’s been snowing lightly here and they say we are supposed to get another half a foot at least. I’m sure it’s nothing compared to what you get up there. Many blessings and stay safe.
We got a blizzard in MO this past Friday & Saturday for our daughters wedding but it made for magical pictures. It's been warmer this week and the melt makes it hard to get around feeding our animals. Expecting more snow on Saturday so we will see. We have opposums here in MO but I've noticed alot more armadillos moving in. IDK why they are coming this far north. I remember, as a kid, we only saw armadillos if we traveled south. Now, we are seeing them more and more on our hwys.
@@LumnahAcres yeah we used to see them the farther south we went...like the Ozarks and AR etc. Oddly enough, we would see fewer opposums as we went south. Maybe MO is a dividing line...idk.
We get opossum here in Michigan. I have to trap and kill them because they can carry EPM (fatal horse disease). They burrow, sometimes in snow, so my guess is that you plowed his little igloo.
Thirty inches, holy snowmobiles Batman! Better batten down the hatches. Thinking the possum was in the driveway and got plowed into the pile...not sure how it expired. Figaro's got a skull cap lol. You guys have been and continue to be a blessing to all of us. Thank you and have a safe fun weekend in the snow. We're supposed to get 5-8".....just enough to be a pain.
We are supposed to get a chance of a inch or so of snow hopefully. Any dead possum is a good possum. Have lost too many chickens to them in the past. Might want to stock up on wood in the house. Have a blessed day.
I am in Western NY so we will be part of the same storm you get the only difference is the lake effect snow after the storm goes through is usually worse than the initial storm
I used to hate opossums. Then I learned how great they are at eating ticks. I don't know about where you are but here in Vermont we are drowning in ticks.
hope with all the snow you are getting Liv still gets her puppy. Keep warm can't wait for some video of Tanner.

I was wondering how that could happen. Makes perfect sense. Janice
No snow here in Florida! The weather has been great! High 60's low 70's during the day, mid 40's at night! WOOT!!! Loving it!
Olivia did great on the hat for Figaro💕
You guys get prepared for all the snow & cold! Thanks for all your wonderful videos!

He might have liked the cap better if it had holes for his ears! LOL! 💜🌞🌵
@@suzisaintjames My thoughts exactly! I thought Figero would like it better with ear hole too!! LOL!!

We are getting weather in 20s this weekend and lots of wind but no rain or snow. Good vlog. Thanks!
Unfortunately the only snow we get in Florida is when Disney makes “bubble snow”. You can send some of yours our way! 😋
good day to you Al, Gina & Olivia !! thanks for sharing another awesome update and adventures on & off the homestead !! 👨🌾🎥👍✝

So I’m 2 hours south of you just south of Claremont but the very first animal we saw when we moved here was an opossum that ran in front of our truck
They are predicting snow for us too here in Illinois, but you get more than we do most of the time, but we have had our share of blizzards.
Not a malfunction... your drone decided to go south for the winter and I don't blame her.
Expecting 10 to 20 inches of snow here in upstate New York. Its winter, we usually have a couple good storms every year.

Flexseal!

18-24 inches of snow Saturday into Sunday. In Maine

We are preparing for the winter storms coming through on our property. How are the worms handling the cold weather in the chicken coop?
Here in Iowa we are preparing for a huge snow storm tonight into tomorrow. The high on Sunday is 12F.
That frozen possum reminded me of Crash and Eddie from the Ice Age movies!! Lol ha ha ha :D so random to find a dead frozen possum though...
According to all the sources I could find you guys are well within the range of opossums. I live in Michigan and they are everywhere.
In here in Netherlands not have yet snow just few minus by Celsius ...but this days maybe we see snow here too because have cold...
