    Hi Al, A comment on your possum find. Possums living range vary I have seen possums in Canada .They migrate when the weather is warm searching for food and trying to stay away from predators. When the seasons change and the temps. drop the poor critters are stuck where they are,and like you found , they perish but, become a frozen dinner for another animal.LIFE GOES ON.     I really enjoy your videos. As a southern homesteader (who grew up in the mountains of western PA), I know what 30 inches of snow means for y’all up north. I hope and pray the snow cuts you a break. As for the opossum, I don’t think he ever saw the snow plow coming. 😳

    No snow here in Florida! The weather has been great! High 60's low 70's during the day, mid 40's at night! WOOT!!! Loving it!

    "Our" opossum leaves our birds alone, he even has a name lol. I took preditor proofing pretty seriously and it worked (so far). Btw, his name is George and he's fat from all the cat food my cats willingly share with him. He is absolutely hilarious to watch.

    maybe it's time to get a trail cam (or 2?) to see what's happening out there at night.
    I have one and I was pretty amazed at all the cats opossums and even one skinny fox that were in my backyard.

    We got an inch of snow today and maybe a few more inches tomorrow. Kids will have fun playing in it. Are you sure the possum wasn’t just playing possum?!?! Enjoy the snow and the weekend!

    Nope, no ❄snow on the forecast for St.Petersburg /Tampa Florida area . Stay warm everyone in the northern states. Sounds like a curl up by the fireplace with a good novel type of weekend 💕😉with hot cocoa and “homemade”mini marshmallow time.
    This is the only time of the year here that it is nice to be in Florida.

    It's going to be 60 Friday and stay that way until Sunday. Then we go into the teens for a couple of days to go right back to 60s again. That is NC for you. All 4 seasons in a week.

    I wanted to thank you for the clip the other day when you made spaghetti in the Instant Pot. I've been looking for an easy one to try, spaghetti is one of my favorite meals. I followed your exact recipe and it turned out PERFECTLY, just like yours! I took the lid off, gave it about 2 stirs and it was ready to eat. I will use it again and again. Thanks!!

    No snow in the desert lol.. Just sunshine & birds chirping in Phoenix today, with a high of 70. But that's a Opossum, the only marsupial found in the Americas... A Possum is native to Australia.

    Soup looks delicious! Years ago I made a similar soup and asked my husband to keep an eye on it.(before Instapots) Well he thought there wasn't much barley in it so he added more. We ended up with a barley casserole. We still laugh about that. This brought that memory back. That possum is a mystery for sure.

    I love how Figaro expresses his irritation with the swishing tail after he escapes Olivia’s hat! Obviously no appreciation for fine craftsmanship! Maybe he’d prefer ear openings next time! 😻

    My brother has a sap shed and was finding fruit up on the top wall plate. He found out it was a possum taking stuff from the compost and storing it in the shed.
    My shaggy dog Effie, is so funny. If I say possum or woodchuck, her ears pop up and she's ready to go hunting. I'm in so. Maine and started seeing possums about 30 years ago.

    They've changed the forecast for Missouri. Leastways in the center. They were talking 6 to 8 in snow. But now it's down to like 1 maybe 3 in I'll go with that

    So glad the opossum didn't get any of the chickens! I have the same GoPro! You really shouldn't work Olivia so hard! ;-) Riding in that sled is such hard work! I love barley! That soup looks so good! We have a large abundance of wildlife here in the mountains, no shortage on livestock predators for sure! Blessings to all y'all.

    Good Morning! We have opossom's in Ovid, Michigan. I don't like them with my chickens. Hope Pluto feels better. We are expecting 2 to 6 in of snow this weekend. We finally have an inch on the ground. I love you guys..God be with You.

    Possums can be beneficial if you have issues with ticks, they actually hoover them up and eat them. I think when you moved the rocks around you might have disturbed his den and then he couldn't find a warm place to hibernate and perished.

    Have you considered putting a board on the front of the nest boxes, to slow down the drop of nesting material. Also swirl the material so it holds together better.

    Hi, the chances of a possum killing your chickens is like you clearing snow with a spoon.
    I had a possum living under my chicken coop he would come out when I fed scrapes.
    My chickens were so use to him they didn’t care.
    Possums eat thousands of ticks they rid you of ticks better than Guinea fowl.
    Possum have a tough time in the cold and snow.

      Don't know what kind of possums you had put they have got our chickens when I was growing up most nasty thing. Seen them craw up in a dead cow and eat.

    So I’m 2 hours south of you just south of Claremont but the very first animal we saw when we moved here was an opossum that ran in front of our truck

    Yes opossum's are that far north. Seen many opossum's in bellows falls Vt when I lived there

    Get you some rubber feed tubs for winter. When they freeze, you just pop out the ice. Works great. Plus , they are black and will absorb some heat from the sun to help keep it from re-freezing in the daytime. I swear by them for winter for my chickens.

    Leaky buckets are still useful, but I get out my sharpie and mark on them "Leaky Bucket " so I don't forget. Sometimes we get smarter as we get older!

    We have Opossums in MN even in the winter. So far we have caught 4 going after the chickens. Tough animals.

      You even have armadillos there now! My nephews bought some hay from Texas and some were in the bales ! A bunch of neighbors did the same and they are everywhere now!

    Yes we sure do have opossums here in the south. Going to dip down to the 40s this weekend and that chilly for us locals! Stay safe and warm. Do some of that pre shovelling and stay off the roads if you can.

    Po po po Mista Possum. You know he's a rather useful critter, he eats lots of ticks ...... well when him and the ticks aren't frozen solid LOL That's so odd that he was just ........ there. I hope you stack up plenty of firewood for that storm headed your way. Luckily you have a gas stove and wood heat so you're in good shape with staying warm, having coffee and being able to eat. I can't wait to see Olivia holding Tanner while you pull that sled around. You always say what a blessing we are to your family, you're a blessing to those who watch you. It's good to see a young family with such awesome values and work ethic. I had kinda lost a little faith. Much ♥ to the fam!

    Nasty here in Kansas already. We had icy drizzle and light snow spattered yesterday. It’s been snowing lightly here and they say we are supposed to get another half a foot at least. I’m sure it’s nothing compared to what you get up there. Many blessings and stay safe.

    We got a blizzard in MO this past Friday & Saturday for our daughters wedding but it made for magical pictures. It's been warmer this week and the melt makes it hard to get around feeding our animals. Expecting more snow on Saturday so we will see. We have opposums here in MO but I've noticed alot more armadillos moving in. IDK why they are coming this far north. I remember, as a kid, we only saw armadillos if we traveled south. Now, we are seeing them more and more on our hwys.

      The only time I've ever seen an armadillo was down in Florida. They are pretty neat animals never knew they were any where else

      @@LumnahAcres yeah we used to see them the farther south we went...like the Ozarks and AR etc. Oddly enough, we would see fewer opposums as we went south. Maybe MO is a dividing line...idk.

    We get opossum here in Michigan. I have to trap and kill them because they can carry EPM (fatal horse disease). They burrow, sometimes in snow, so my guess is that you plowed his little igloo.

    Thirty inches, holy snowmobiles Batman! Better batten down the hatches. Thinking the possum was in the driveway and got plowed into the pile...not sure how it expired. Figaro's got a skull cap lol. You guys have been and continue to be a blessing to all of us. Thank you and have a safe fun weekend in the snow. We're supposed to get 5-8".....just enough to be a pain.

    We are supposed to get a chance of a inch or so of snow hopefully. Any dead possum is a good possum. Have lost too many chickens to them in the past. Might want to stock up on wood in the house. Have a blessed day.

    I am in Western NY so we will be part of the same storm you get the only difference is the lake effect snow after the storm goes through is usually worse than the initial storm

    I used to hate opossums. Then I learned how great they are at eating ticks. I don't know about where you are but here in Vermont we are drowning in ticks.
