I was just starting to like Carlos, especially after his comment about feral youths. But after hearing his views on American Werewolf, we can never be friends.
Quintessential British experience for tourists: A full day pub crawl ending up in a nightclub with sticky floors and followed by a fearsome hangover, full English breakfast and memory loss.
I am also no longer friends with Carlos because of his idiotic comment.
I agree Carlos, American werewolf in London is like a seventies B movie!
You can never join the Cool Dudes Walking Club.
Now I want to join more than ever😢
Most British thing. Waiting for your Ford Focus to get its mot.
American Werewoofs in Lahndun is a classic - one of the best! ❤
I agree it is in my Top Ten of all time.
Alternative for Carlos' channel: Zookeeper roaming free
Great name cool dude
That photograph reveals you were perhaps at your absolute happiest when teaching English to foreign students, cool dude.
For tourists: don't forget a cream tea after the full English breakfast and roast dinner.
For Carlos: The Curly Kentish. (Using a K for Curly would be strictly prohibited).
I fancy a cream tea now.
Cream tea is so good tbh
hmm... quintessential British experiences: tikka masala, spitting rain, your Greggs sausage roll nicked by a seagull, queuing. Excellent cloud/fish sky magic, Marek. Castle Velez is an excellent name for Carlos. I've just subbed.
queuing !
Finally someone agrees with Castle Velez!
Quintessential British things:
Saying "missed a bit" to a working tradesman
Cheering when a glass of beer is dropped
Winning prosecco at bingo aged 9 and your dad trading it for a freddo.
All the best from Pumbro 😀
Excellent British things cool dude, and yes I did just shout PUMBRO!!!!
Add to the list: worshiping royal nonces
A quintessentially English experience is the thrill of getting to the supermarket after the reduced section has been filled
Half priced sausages please.
Queuing and drink tea 😊
Lovely views despite being a popular walk, at least no pigeons? I guess Fish and chips or having icecream on the seafront even on a cool windy day could be a British thing to do :) Love your Whitecliffs artwork and photo shots. Thanks Marek and Carlos
I didn’t notice the lack of pigeons. It would have got an extra Marek.
Deal High st is quite busy on a Sunday
A enjoyable video, but you missed out all the great pubs along this walk. The coastguard in St Margaret's bay is the closest pub to France. The Zetland arms is on the beach In Kingsdown, and finally the beautiful King's Head in Deal would have rounded it off beautifully.
Such a nice surprise to see Carlos! Quintessential British experience: Go to a car boot sale.
This reminds me. I must go to a Car Boot sale.
The Capers of Carlos the Curly
Great name cool dude.
I know it wasn't a particular favourite of yours, but it was nice to see you walking in the county where I was born. An inspirational choice of ice cream, I love rum & raisin.
A quintessentially British thing to do would be to drive 10 miles in your car, order a coffee through the window, drink it in said car, then drive home again.
Oh yeah and one more thing...... *I ONLY WENT AND WON THE PRIZE DRAW*
Congratulations cool dude. As a teenager I never understood why 'old people' liked rum and raisin, now I am one of those old people.
What could be more British than the White Cliffs of Dover, the roar of a Spitfire overhead, ice-cream on the beach and the German Beethoven's "Ode to joy". Why no Elgar or Williams to round it off.
Only because of RUclips’s usage rights.
First thing I did when i got back to the UK was get some fish and chips and meat and potato pies. Oh and get some strawberry laces of course
By 2030 Strawberry Laces will be recognised as the national dish
I did that walk in the mid-noughties and don't remember it being very busy or the path being surfaced like that. Maybe I was lucky that day with the crowds. I did follow up with a walk from Deal to Sandwich via the beach at Pegwell Bay. Word of warning - if you do wander up to the tip of that beach in Pegwell Bay you may see things that scar you for life .
I think Sunday's may have been the worst day to go, agreed cool dude.
The flintstones themed wheel chair is so good. If I was her Id leave it like that forever.
As for the question of the day, being not British, but being slightly obsessed with most of your lot's media output, from my minimal view of English stereotypes I'd say...
Morning: Wake up, have some lovely Earl Grey tea with cream and a bit of sugar with some scrambled eggs with pepper and butter, and some baked beans n toast with marmite.
Afternoon: take a bus ride and listen to the boring convos of weather and hooligans as you mentioned, before getting dropped in downtown London and have a lovely lunch of fish and chips with mayo{i know malt vinegar is more stereotypical, but I prefer mayo}.
Evening: Get a nice blood pudding and sausage roll dinner with uhhhh Shepard's pie (made correctly and not the icky american way) etc with some lager n lime.
Full quintessential British experience.
Also that painting of Carlos being harassed by judgmental elders is the best thing ever.
Thank you for uploading, Marek! Looking forward to this.
Bag of scratchings, warm real ale and shouting at clouds are Quintessentially English cool dude.
You were indeed right - Dover is a strange place. Mostly truck tailbacks and Brexiteers.
You should cast Carlos in a tribute to the great film 'A Marek and Werewolf'
I will start working on 'A Marek an Werewolf' immediately!
Something quintessentially English would have to be watching a village cricket match while eating a cream tea while the red arrows fly over head 😊
If you ever come to Germany to walk the Rheinburgenweg you'll have to know the translation for Jamaica rum and raisin ice cream. It's "Malaga". You're welcome.
Malaga like the city in Spain? How curious.
@@thekentishpilgrim Hi Carlos, yes, like the Spanish city. I think the rum is often interchanged with an alcoholic beverage originally from Malaga.
Carlos went for Strawberry and Vanilla though. Boring.
@@cdwc that's true. Strawberry and cream is not exactly the adventurous option.
I love it when you do walks in Kent as you visit many of my old stomping grounds. As a former Man of Kent, I think saying "Sorry"for absolutely everything is about as British as it gets. Can't wait till next week.
Sadly I think the 'sorry' might be dying off a bit in recent years.
When I've met new foreign friends/partners in the past I've always found myself taking them to Argos and making them watch Father Ted. I'm not sure why but clearly some part of my brain has decided those two experiences provide a crash course on life in Britain. Nowadays I'd probably add huddling behind an ineffectual windbreak in weather that's just shy of a full squall, on a pebble beach, burning your mouth on the sausage sandwich you've just cooked, yet feeling an immense sense of satisfaction and wellbeing.
Nice one cool dude. I removed the replies as I want you to be able to write what you like without getting drawn into arguments.
@@cdwc Thanks cool dude
My membership says 7months 15 days but I’ve been a RUclips member for over 3 years now and an actual member longer than that. 😊
I think RUclips did something weird with non UK memberships. I cannot fix this I am afraid.
I agree with you on how weird towns are on a Sunday. Walsall town centre had a Sunday vibe this morning-hardly any people about apart from one random person shouting.
As for British experiences I would go for someone accidentally stepping on your foot but you apologise for your foot being in their way.
Stay cool.
The apologising to someone else for them doing something wrong is probably the most British (although I think in the last 20 years manners have disappeared a bit).
Yes, people are running around all over the place shouting '' Can I get? " now. Grr!
Just listening to your intro and it made me wonder what the first people to listen to piano music thought. They had harpsichord’s but the piano’s such a pure sound. Sorry…. it’s been a long week.
American Werewolf is a classic - the Stormtrooper scene is horrific ! Still like Carlos
Still one of the most terrifying scenes in cinema.
Drinking a cup of tea in the rain, wearing wellyboots and a bow tie while sitting in a deck chair by a canal thats full of shopping trolleys. An old bike some car tyres and a old abandoned fridge. I have no idea why this is my just popped in to my mind while i was trying to think of something very English but cool dude it did 😂 great as always sir Marek
A cup of tea must be up there!
I really enjoyed that cloud animal snap
That was my favourite bit too cool dude.
Another quintessentially English thing to do: arguing over whether it’s jam or cream first. The correct answer is of course jam, unless you’re from Devon in which case you have much bigger problems ;)
Quintessential English experience: complaining about London and all things and people that come out of London while also seeing a trip to London as something very flash and glamorous to do 😂
Lovely views & music. Makes you wonder if Dover is being gentrified. Quintessentially English~listening to Oasis, Beatles & Did those feet in ancient times, Jerusalem. Carlos the valiant wanderer? Teaching English to foreign students:- what a great way of expanding cultural awareness & world views. My son is in his twenties & is teaching English to Vietnamese students.
I hope your son is enjoying himself. It is a great way to travel the world I think.
@@cdwc Yes, my son is certainly enjoying himself & is very much looking forward to travelling to Vietnam very soon.
Do enjoy your walks, and commentary
Stunning walk and very enjoyable video. Definitely looks like going out of season would be recommended to avoid all those people! Nice one
Out of season and not on a weekend. Ha.
The most British thing to do is to shout "WAAAAAAAY" in a pub when you hear someone smash a glass.
I wonder what noise they make in other countries when that happens?
Comedians used to use the stock line ‘someone’s contact lens has fallen out’.
I love rum and raisin ice cream but don’t buy it anymore since Rye, when I was sold a dollop with a single raisin in it. They had me in the small print.
I watched the The Kentish Pilgrim's video viewpoint on this same walk and I was shocked by your comment at the end when asked if you enjoyed the walk! Maybe it was Marek!
Blame everything on also Julie from accounts for never paying me within six months.
When I moved to London I did the London walks (Big Ben, south bank, Buckingham palace etc) and the London eye ride. Also a boat ride on the Thames to the millennium dome. Living in Kew, the Kew Gardens are also a must.
The boat along the Thames is fantastic.
Quintessential British things:
Watch Antiques Roadshow whilst thinking about the homework you haven’t done.
The Antiques Roadshow Sunday evening depression is a classic cool dude.
I like carlos' hair (not a channel name suggestion)
Although this is a great name for a channel!
once did a years walk from whitstable kent to cornwall - found some places absolute gems also some run down areas - history of coast was fascinating though - retired brit did a section every weekend not in one go - has anyone done that as a video
Sounds like that would make an excellent video. I haven't seen one about that.
A quintessentially English experience is if you came to the UK first and went to Scotland and then tried to spend your Scottish pound notes in England.
When I was a callow youth some thirty mumble mumble something something years ago……and my friends and I walked into a country pub to be met with total silence, it was obligatory for one of us to say loudly; ‘The Slaughtered Lamb’, inevitably followed by a lot of muffled sniggering.
People must have though we were a right bunch of nobheads.
Ha. I have been into a few pubs which are a bit similar.
Also... where is the Carlos emoji?
He lost out to
@@cdwc not good enough
More likes on this comment please.
🤣@@cdwc
"In Carlos's footsteps"
Good name
The only time Marek smiles is when he's insulting someone.
And you gotta love it, because, if for nothing else, American Werewolf in London has Jenny Agutter 😍
I edit out all my smiles. No-one wants to see me enjoying myself.
Hair envy!
Newspaper wrapped Fish and chips eated with a buttered muffin washed down with a mug (not cup) of tea after a walk on autumn evening.
Forgot about the old fish and chips
first cool dude
Here's some 'Interesting' information on your tour of the White Cliffs walk... Charles Hawtrey used to live in Deal Ian Fleming used to live in St.Margaret's BayAnd my Aunt Elsie used to live in Dover Fond memories of Chinese takeaways & a treacherous climb down 3 flights of rickety stairs to her outside loo from her spare bedroom in the middle of the night freezing my bits off in winter when I went to stay with her. No heating. Quintessentially British stiff upper lip endurance times But fun. Sorry it wasn't the best walk for you Marek..but... you did have your best m8 Carlos The No.1 Pilgrim with you & brought back some nice memories for me watching it! x J x
He cannot be my friend anymore after not liking American Werewolf in London.
@@cdwc Awwww Marek. He's your bestie!!!! Poor Carlos forever outcast as a m8 because he's An American Werewolf in London hater. But the question is ...Does he hate pigeons too???? That might just be the winning trump card then to continue the treks together...but of course, if he's a pigeon fancier then that would really put the lid on it I guess! .....x J x 😃
@@judybee I hate pigeons. Also, Marek and I walked past Charles Hawtrey's house on Middle ST. but I don't think I pointed it out to Marek. To be honest I don't know much about him and figured Marek wouldn't either but maybe I was wrong on that.
@@thekentishpilgrim Marek will be pleased to hear you hate pigeons! It means your friendship & future walks can stay intact after all!!! Better not ask him about Gus though (he will tell you what I mean!) You will become infamous soon when Marek gets another emoji opportunity as I think it's on the cards that the CD viewers will be voting for a Carlos emoji next time!! x J x
My brother in law went to these cliffs a few weeks ago but his phone company thought he was in France and he got charged international rates. Scandalous!
Carlos Dudes Walking Club has a certain ring to it .
Yes better that Excellent dudes walking club that is for sure.
American Werewolf in London is superb. As is A Company of Wolves.
Carlos' youtube could be "Carlos the Straggle." (Really, desperately trying hard to find walking words that rhyme with Jackal).
Quintessentially British experience: preferring Glasgow over Edinburgh. (Or vice bloomin' versa).
Pizza with pineapple... only for hangovers (which I don't get not having drank for many, many years...).
Yes please Ham & Pineapple Pizza 👍🏻😋👍🏻 my favourite.
Not *necessarily quintessentially (*two words I definitely did not just look up how to spell 👀) British, but I would implore anyone who never has to go see Jools Holland & his Orchestra perform live. To misquote Samuel Johnson, "To be tired of Hootenanny, is to be tired of life".
I quite like Hootenanny without all the celebrity interviews though.
Nice 1
I knew a man of your taste would go for Rum and Raisin . The top choice when it comes to Ice Creams 🍦
Agreed cool dude.
My friend Ben Dover has taught me so much
Most britsh experience, walking down the street and having a random stranger shout 'wan*er in your general direction 👍
This has happened to me a couple of times. Ha
Surely not cool dude ,well that's outrageous
How can you say that about such an amazing film whilst being so close to a cliff edge? Is everything ok at home for Carlos?
That walk looked better in 4K than I remembered. Anyway, American Werewolf in London is terribly overrated, way too long, and only has about 3 good scenes in the whole film. I can say that because I may or may not have been in my past life an American werewolf living in London.
Other than that I was happy Marek came to Kent. Next time I'll head West!
You are a moron.
@@cdwc
I was teaching Cutting Edge just in the last 3 years. Turgid would be the best word to describe said Textbooks😒😒
I used to make the lessons up. I can't believe they are still using it 20 years later.
Cool Dude you have lost me with your alternative Kentish Pilgrim name of Castle Velez. My suggestion is Nun Better 👍
American Werewolf in London is an ok film btw
Carlos’s surname is Velez and he likes old buildings, I think I should have explained it more. I don’t think it makes sense anyway but for some reason it makes me laugh. Mainly because he hates it. Ha
Ah all is explained 🤣
He's right about a lot of things, but silly comments about American Werewolf in London being over rated is only going to turn people against him. Dear oh dear. How does he feel about Big Trouble in Little China I wonder?
Having it start chucking it down just as you light the BBQ... 😡
Yes wet
Castle Roy.
OK, that’s it! Carlos go stand in the corner facing the wall until you are ready to apologise for your comments about American Werewolf
Exactly!
I think a quintessential british thing is using the C-bomb in a variety of ways so as to be a catch all term for anyone.
I can forgive Carlos his wrongness at thinking An American Werewolf In London is overrated. But if he thinks American Werewolf In Paris is anything above a cinematic war crime then there's really no hope.
I'd go with Constitutionals With Carlos for his channel.
Great Carlos Channel name.
Hey CD. What was the opening music for the video today? It was wonderfully peaceful. The British experience has to include being on the sharp end of some tutting, hearing a polite but lengthy moan about traffic/weather/state of the country and mispronounced place names like Leicester or Worcester. CD#123
It was a track called 'Forest Lullabye' by Asher Fulero. It is one of the free RUclips tracks cool dude.
Really beautiful cliffs, too bad about all the people lol. You got some great photos though
Been in a bad mood all day so this came at the perfect time!
Do you or anyone else know what that tree was towards the end of the walk? ( 9:37 ) Never seen leaves like that but what a cool tree!!
I think it might be a (Horse) Chestnut Tree where kids in the 80s got their conkers from..... till the bl**dy Health & Safety bods took all the fun out of being a child.
I think it was a Horse Chesnut Tree.
@@cdwc I think you're right! Thank you! :)
I an on Carlos side about feral youth. You could change the name of your channel to 'Goole dudes Stalking Club.'
Hi Marek, Do you use a gimbal for your camera work? Great video as usual 👍
I use a GoPro 10 which has excellent stabilisation. Although mine has just started to play up a bit. They have just brought out the new GoPro12.
Hm Carlos that sounds like something a werewolf would say
He is almost hairy enough. Maybe he is halfway through turning.
Jen - going to the doctor's, the whole experience from making appointments to waiting room, she also said catching the the bus
Mike - being in a town centre after 12am and watching drunk Lads fight
Watching drunks fighting is pretty English, agreed.
Especially jolly because Carlos doesn't rate the film how about his channel being renamed "An American Walker to the South East of London"?
By the way AWIL is IMHO the best film from Jenny Agutter's mandatory nude period
Good name cool dude
Also to Carlos - no just no, you are wrong
Correct
😝
Caring too much what a small round bit of bread is called.
Or whether a Jaffa cake is a biscuit.
people coming to the UK should live in the outskirts of Dundee. Who doesn't want to see random fires/gang fights and have themselves threatened and gobbed on for fun?
Camping with Junkies - that is what you should rename your channel cool dude.
@@cdwc ah mate I need to tell you what happened next. Clearly I didn't move on just to move on. I went back again. Enough said.
Hi marek well what a fool Carlos is but as for British things to do surely is to get drunk enough to piss your self and not care and then while eating a kebab try to kick the head off a donkey in Weston supermare , cheers dude
I am pleased with all the correct abuse Carlos is getting for saying AWIL is rubbish.
I’d like to register a complaint please. When you show the emojis that new members can use I was horrified to see that you don’t show the new
pigeon emoji. My complaint is that no one will want to join this club if they don’t know about the pigeon emoji. And my quintessential UK experience is stuffing yourself full of Devonshire tea after being made to walk around some random old smelly house that’s 10 times older than the country you live in, then have someone English drive you way too fast on narrow roads edged with tall hedges while you hyperventilate and they chat at you about the weather. These roads anywhere else in the world would be one way roads due to the danger of head on collisions.
I stopped reading this as soon as mentioned
@@cdwc rude!
I am sorry. I will adjust the emoji in future walks. (I did read the rest of your comment )
@@cdwc I forgive you… but will the pigeons.
I think Carlos would get on with Sunglasses Marek... Idiot 😂 wait... It WAS sunglasses Marek 😐
Sunglasses Marek also disagrees with Carlos on the American Werewolf in London.
@@cdwc ffs Carlos 😂 he's a great walking buddy really, a bit of tension makes the videos interesting 😁
I was enjoying this until Carlos ruined it with his opinion about An American Werewolf.
Exactly cool dude. I cannot trust his opinion on anything now.
I reckon Carlos should call his Channel 'Cool Carlo's Strolling Club ' on the subject of things to do when visiting UK I once watched 4 American Ladies eat a Sunday Roast with their fingers as they had been told it was the proper way to do it , even though everyone else around was using Cutlery 🫤
A good name for Carlos's club cool dude.
I wasn't a fan of ham and pineapple pizza until I tried it with ketchup.
The tangy tomato with the sweet pineapple and salty ham. Hot pizza and cold ketchup. Not that room temperature ketchup. 🍖🍍🍕🥫👍
Ketchup on Pizza!!!!
I'm sorry, too american of me. Just the ham and pineapple pizza. It would ruin a pepperoni pizza.
