Yes, I've been to Dover Castle by the sea. I sat on the knoll and looked at the sea. Lovely, lovely castle. If I'm not wrong there are underground tunnels from where the second world War was fought across the continent. I think Dunkirk operation was monitored from here. It has been turned into a museum now. Thank you for bringing back the memories.
Yes we mention Dunkirk and the tunnels near the end of the video. Sadly no video or photography is allowed in the tunnels. Bit of a shame, but very interesting to walk around and visit under the cliffs.
Piękna wycieczka!!! Dzięki Panu mam możliwość, zobaczyć te cudowne miejsca, nie wychodząc z domu. Piękna praca!!! piękna pasja!!! Dziękuję bardzo. Serdecznie pozdrawiam 👍😘
I appreciate a good reconstruction, especially one like the Dover Castle interior you show here. I like that this is a castle rather than a palace, and the interior (I love the patterned brick and simple heraldry designs) reflects an early period in English history. A good vantage point has value no matter the times; so much of interest here. Thank you for sharing it! Stay cool!
Давно хотела увидеть этот замок изнутри ... Спасибо вам большое - это действительно фантастическая прогулка! Очень вас любим и всегда с нетерпением ждем встречи!
A lovely tour and stunning photography and a history lesson with your calming voice...perfection! My favorites were the antique doors and hardware (gorgeous) and that backgammon board - but the close-up video mixed with aerial footage and panoramic views...just spectacular! Thank you both for yet another wonderful upload! 👍👍👍 "thank you" ~ Lisa in 🌲 New Hampshire 🇺🇸
Hello. I'm a volunteer explainer at Dover Castle ( seen in this video at 5:17 standing on the left with a union jack face mask). For your information, the beautiful doors shown are made of solid oak boards and braces, iron rivets fasten them together. The decorative ironwork is wrought Iron, and the white facings are not paint but white leather.
One of the things I always wanted to do was to actually walk through a castle like this, marveling as I climb staircases and touch walls so old. That this castle is still used for defense is marvelous.
Yes it is amazing to be able to walk around these Castles. Dover has not been used as a defensive castle since World War II its now run by English Heritage so we can tour around.☺
That was so beautiful. What a building, thanks so much for the history, just loved it. Thanks so much for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care
Another fascinating tour and historical narrative. Loved seeing so many well shot details and hearing the wonderful mood setting music, as always. Thanks so much gentlemen!
Thanks for a very interesting tour history information. A very impressive castle and wonderful to see that it is being so well maintained. And why not, England has a history to be proud of.
Finally, I got my chance to watch in peace and time just flew by. I loved every minute of the video. I can’t believe I have never been. It’s fascinating. So much history and in a stunning location. My favourite composer, Thomas Tallis, started his career in Dover, and now I can understand how he got from there to London, with the importance of the castle keeping Dover on the king‘s radar. Thank you for pointing out when things were re-creations. It’s impressive how much effort has been made to preserve everything. The Roman lighthouse is utterly incredible. They were just phenomenal builders, weren’t they? I will definitely visit at the next possibility.
Fascinating history, beautiful scenery, epic views! This video has it all. Would like to visit in person one day, but this was the next best thing. Thank you!💕💕
I was just there two weeks ago…excellent presentation!! I love the aerial shots you can’t see when you’re actually there. I walked the White Cliffs first then trekked up to the castle. A lot of great walking/ hiking! Definitely better than anything we have here in Texas, lol.
Sir Simon. Fantastic video! Dover Castle was worth the wait. Just got done watching it for the third time ( made sure i didn’t miss anything) And the videography was fantastic. It’s like watching BBC special. Thank You so much for sharing your talents and your video.👍👍👍👍👍
The weather looked perfect. The whole area looked beautiful. It looked like a perfect day to go filming and you did an amazing job. Enjoyed it very much. Have a wonderful day Sir Simon.
Yay another tour with the Memorymakers =-) Now that must be the castle that many stories / movies are based around, the structure, the baileys, the inner grounds. I live in New Zealand but if I ever had the thought of going to England this would be the type of sightseeing that I would want to do. I love your journeys, many places that an oversees tourist would never get to. Thank you. And you have now 80, 000 subscribers, totally awesome.
What a coincidence! Just two weeks ago I traveled to RIAT 2022 in Fairford via Dover, back and forth. I saw that interesting castle up on the hill and thought that it must be worth a visit. Now I know - it is. Thanks for the nice footage, very much appreciated! Cheers, Herb
Great, great tour for another historic site. It's incredible how well preserved are the castle from medieval ages, fortress history is fascinating, the details shown bring us back to time. Congratulations, I like so much your videos 🤩
My son visited a couple years back and unfortunately the castle was closed. He decided to do a walk about even though it was a rainy miserable day. He slipped in the wet grass and was caked in mud. His comment was “I have Dover soil embedded on my jeans” (giggle). Thank you so much for the great tour along with the history.
Hey guys i have been here, but not since 2004. I was 10 years but still remeber this Castle fondly. Must go back to visit this castle. I really enjoy your videos.
Who knew that the Romans built lighthouses?? Amazed to see that Dover castle has been a part of modern defence as well as in ancient times. It did look cold though, and rather windswept. Loved the drone shots & also your concise history. Thanks for sharing. Love from Australia.
Until now I had no idea that Dover Castle had actually been used during WWI, for the same purpose for which it was constructed. Thanks again, Simon and Will, for another superb history lesson!
I've never been to Dover or this castle, but it looks a most brilliant place. The castle is very impressive, and I never realised how huge it is. A most enjoyable video and well filmed, thank you.
Hello there. A very professional, informative and enjoyable video. I’m really enjoying your videos, taking me to places that I can’t visit but am very interested in. Thank you both so much.
Im mesmerized by castles beauty... ur photography, visualization & narration is so bewitching & so soothing that i literally felt im a part of ur journey in live rather watching... thank u for such a amazing video...👏👏 the places u travel is quite interesting & historic that i love so much enjoying it...

Hello the music around 11 minutes is called *Close to his Sword by Bonnie Grace* . We get our music from a royal free site called Epidemic Sound but I suspect you can find it elsewhere too.
I am curious to know why are the emblems on the flags similar regardless of country? For example we see what looks like lions or dragons on flags in medieval flags whether it be in England, Spain or other countries.
By Train it would be Manchester Piccadilly to Euston then Tube to St Pancras for a train to Dover Priory. A 20 min walk from there to Castle. You could not do it in a day. Need to stay over either in London or Dover.

When I see these stone walls I think about the history they had saw through centuries. Amazing. Beautiful video as usual. Cheers.
If they could talk! :)

To był fascynujący zamek, więc cieszę się, że możemy go Państwu przynieść bez konieczności podróżowania!

Agree, I think English Heritage have done a grand job of reconstructing what might have been and present the castle in such an interesting manner.
Давно хотела увидеть этот замок изнутри ... Спасибо вам большое - это действительно фантастическая прогулка! Очень вас любим и всегда с нетерпением ждем встречи!
Так приятно, что наконец-то мы смогли показать вам замок.

Excellent video!!!! A beautiful castle with a lot of history. Thank you. I was very excited about this video & you never disappoint!😊
So much history but I guess having been around for one thousand years it would have a few tales to tell.
I was just there two weeks ago…excellent presentation!! I love the aerial shots you can’t see when you’re actually there. I walked the White Cliffs first then trekked up to the castle. A lot of great walking/ hiking! Definitely better than anything we have here in Texas, lol.

Just seen this, lovely to watch, lovely views over the castle, and love the history of castles, thankyou

Welcome aboard! Thanks you for joining.
One can immediately tell that Dover Castle was meant for business, not pleasure. Very impressive.
Haha it certainly was, who would have thought one thousand years later it was still important!
Another wonderful video ! If it wasn't for King James I wouldn't be sitting where I'm sitting now. My ancestors were Puritans who left for New England
Thank you so much, you have quite an ancestry!
Very well presented. Had planned to visit Dover Castle but sadly covid put an end to that. Cheers from New Zealand.
Glad you enjoyed it, hope you make it over soon.

Wish you had shown the magnificent fireplaces and especially the one with the Tutor Rose on each corner.
Sorry we missed it sometimes you start enjoying walking around and forget to film bits, a balance between filming and seeing it for yourself.

The castle was also used in the Doctor Who story “The Mind Of Evil” starring Jon Pertwee

I never hear of Hendinghan (?) castle. All that is left is the original main building only, but a fascinating norman castle.
