- Don't quite understand why people might think this is some sort of scam. I literally had everything I owned stolen from me on 10-15-16 while i was left in my wetsuit and with my surfboard. I couldnt make this shit up if i wanted to
damn that sucks so bad. did you have a steering wheel lock? I have same rv so I am always scared of this happening.
It does suck that happened to him, but those steering wheel locks are a joke to an experienced thief. Especially here in New York City. No one here uses them anymore because they stink. They can be broken in about 15 seconds.

so bummed for you ... this is every vandwellers ultimate nightmare , Get a vehicle GPS tracker on your next vehicle , hide it well and connect it to your battery bank , they are like less than 100 bucks , you put a simcard in it and you can trace your vehicles location from an app
^YES and TELL NO ONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT EVER.
or just get any old AT&T Android phone, get a freedompop sim card ( keep all syncs turned off so it only works when you use www.google.com/android/devicemanager or device manger from the app store) Then you got a tracker for possible way less then 100, and can get more live details without a monthly cost if you keep the freedompop account auto top up turned off, and leave it on the free account plan.
With it setup like that, leave the phone hidden somewhere plugged in to power at all times, Enable the Data on it when you leave the RV. So if its gone, should be able to get its current location and call the cops. hell can even plug the headphone jack into a amp and loud speaker. If you see someone trying to get into it in your line of sight but wanna play it safe and not get attacked, send a remote ring to the phone that blare into a loud speaker. cheap remote panic button.
I plan to have a similar set up for mine hidden somewhere, and with its own power source, like a separate hidden battery that last a good while keeping a hidden phone charged.
Sorry for your loss man. As far as your insurance....Your payments are proof. If youre paying at a full coverage rate then they cant say anything. I hope you can get things squared away soon. If you in fact have been paying for full coverage then you have a case.
Dan Travels yeah.. I don't know what happened man. like, from day one I was assured I had full coverage. I've had issues with usaa not putting changes into the "system". I fear this is the same occurrence
Always, Always, Always get documentation on coverage. Pull your policy documents and review them thoroughly...if they changed your policy without consent you can still claim under your agreed policy and payments are indeed proof too. If you need someone to review hit me up...I sell insurance bro...
Cory TheMoodyTraveler Documentation isn't needed if you've paid full coverage. The payment is undeniable proof. Perhaps they didn't give you the full coverage and you've been paying for minimum. But if you've paid for full, any court in the country would favor you. Might be lawer time. It wouldn't have to go that far though. The right phone call threatening litigation with proof of months paid for full coverage should do it. Its the insurance adjusters job to low ball of disqualify you. Its standard practice. If you've paid then you should fight. If you haven't paid then theres nothing you can do.
Dan Travels ditto. My 80yr old aunt's house burnt to the ground do to vandalism and it was a constant battle for every penny from insurance.
Sharvo Sharvo I also have had to deal with insurance companies. You gotta be a vicious bulldog and not take no for an answer. If he paid full coverage he has a strong case. I suspect the payments were never made though. In which case he is liable.

I live in baja and I confirm what you said. For sure if the RV got down here no one is going to check if its stolen. There is a lot of business between california and baja on stolen cars.
interesting..i wanted to go to Baha and then take the ferry over and drive to Puerto Vallarta. Cost was a factor. I figured it was going to be hassle and expensive with all the gas and doing it alone may not be smart.. I can fly to Puerto Vallarta pretty cheep.
yes maybe flight is cheaper but a road trip to puerto vallarta coul be a great adventure!

Do you have any photos that you can spread across facebook? I know that others have had good luck finding stolen trailers and such by spreading the word that way... So sorry that it happened to you kid... But, sorrow and loss can only be followed by some thing good... You learned a tough lesson about not being able to trust everyone. I am really sorry to hear about your loss, I have had some things stolen from me and I know how bad it feels. That being said, keep your head up and things will work out. I promise you will end up with an even better RV and now you know so much more about RV's and what you want next time. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I bought a pop-up camper when we were younger. We put so much time and effort into making it just the way we wanted it. We finally after months of working and a lot of money we took our pop-up to a festival. On our way driving down the highway the frame on the camper broke and the camper ended up flipping over and falling to pieces all over the highway along with our personal belongings. It was a total loss and I had no insurance. I look back now and am not upset about it, and I am currently looking to buy a much better and newer RV.
Why dont you guys ever have cheap 30 dollars GPS units in your dwellings? when i get my RV one of the first things besides the solar panels that i will be setting up is the GPS and some kil switches throughout the RV and fake ones.. so that they cant turn it on.

I also know these words "you will overcome this" don't help any right now but you will overcome this because your a hard working and determined person. As I said usually a crew will park your ride someplace to see if it has lojack equipped. That is why I was trying to say to you that it was somebody that knew you. They knew you did not have Lojac or GPS. Today there are so many tracking devices out there. SPOT offers some devices also there are other GPS trackers that are out there that use cell phone to communicate with but GPS to position it. The GPS cell ones are the most affordable but SPOT is true satcomm and it will cost more but you can leave your ride in the middle of BFE and it will get tracked and you will get a notice if somebody does something to your ride while you are out there doing your adventure.
William Prowse lives in a RV like the one you had but he does not take his on long trips. He will store it in a lot then grab his car ride it and sleep it on longer trips. That way he does not burn tires and fuel when he takes a 500 mile trip. He so far is strictly west coast. Wicked smart young man and is a frugal fuck that is not ashamed to say it. We could learn a lot from him.
My experience in life has been if they call you friend watch your wallet if they call you best friend watch them they aim to rape your animals and kill your children.
Welcome back to NOLA you are pretty handy and there is a LOT OF WORK over here in Ascension Parish it is getting cooler and you can get by living out your ride and showering at PLFT we have a planet fitness right here in Gonzales the heart of the flood land. The work is here the money is flowing RIGHT NOW you can get your money banked and you will not even realize you had a RV stolen. Again personally I would get an efficient ride and a runaway camper and enjoy the economy. That is if you plan to roll big time like you were doing. But if you are going to stay static then you want larger RV and you want to secure a slab of land someplace. Even if you decide to lease land from the state.
This could lead to your getting a contractors license and you can marry the 2 your love of travel with the trade write off all your expenses the RV would be paid for by the taxes not by you. As the owner of the company you can take your stuff places you want to go. A lot of people blend their interest to get most of it paid for by business expense or tax write off.
Corey you can be sitting on a million bucks in the next 5 years if you want to I suspect you don't want to. Don't much blame you if you rather not strive for that.
