- Hey everyone, In this video I go over a lot of what happened in Venice Beach in October of 2016 after traveling all the way across the country in my Toyota Winnebago, to have it stolen while I was surfing.
A lot has happened since this time and I have been able to make a good comeback so far. Life has a lot of weird stuff that happens and its up to you to figure it all out.
In venice I befriended a young kid while I was surfing, and hung out with him for few days while I was there, and he (16 years old) then took advantage of my kindness and stole all of my worldly possessions and my house. He was well aware of my situtation, being that I lived in my RV full time and didnt have family or friends out there. On October 15th between the hours of 12 noon and 3 pm he stole all my shit while I was surfing. I

I live in California. Everyone on my block has a club on their car. It actually kept mine van from getting stolen about 3 months ago.
Question: "How'd your RV get stolen?"
Answer: "It was in California."
I know! I'm so happy the other 49 states don't have car thieves.
Texas is full of hoodlum too!! ....but in defense of Texas, most of them are transplants from the East Coast & Canada! It was not locals born and breed there that were ever a problem.

thank God you never got hurt, things can be replaced but people can't, things you can get back, but not a life, I know it's hard but life will go on, in time it will get better, you did nothing wrong, just keep your keys with you and always lock up, people learn everyday, I'm sorry this happened, but glad you got a new one, keep living the good life, remember you can still trust, that will take time, things will get better,

I know it happened awhile ago but still.... how crappy. Hugs! Good on you for turning this into a learning lesson and hopefully it is does not make you fully get bitter about the people you will meet on this awesome journey.
I tried to help a "friend" one time and then I ended up in the hospital having two emergency surgeries and she stole my credit cards and my identity and my financial situation is ruined forever. But I will never give up on people in general.
I agree that selling the RV is not worth your peace of mind. There is no amount of money worth your piece of mind.
It is beyond comprehension that people will take advantage of good people.

Wow...I am like you shocked that was messed up. Hopefully what goes around comes around to them! You do live and learn and hopefully this will make you stronger and wiser and I know you know this but it could have been worse...you are alive and well. We travel through Europe with our very old Fiat Burster and the locks are a joke.
Just wanted to say how gut wrenching this was to watch. I too, do not understand how some people can do that kind of thing. The surreal side of this, is natural. But it passes. All I want to say is please don't lose hope in humanity. Not all people are fukd up like this. Just close that generous side of you off until you heal. Stay safe mate. Mine has a club and a very good alarm system. When you are away surfing, there are surely thieves who cruise the parking lots. Very sad that anyone can get set up. One of my friends wanted to go camping and leave the RV to go hiking........ NO! You confirmed my thoughts. I wish you all the best with your new rig. Sad we have to learn lessons from jerks. Although such a theft can make one feel personally violated, you had some time, money, heart, etc. So Glad you did not get attacked otherwise.
mostly watch out for backyard mechanics...make sure they put on your vehicle what they took off...and do it right..sorry for your hard ship..seems like your still close to the city.....seems like your doing the best for you...I KNOW HOW HARD THIS IS....PEACE TO YOU....

I lived in Venice too for two months and its pretty sketchy .Its also getting more and more difficult to find a legal place to park with all the NO OVER SIZE PARKING OVERNIGHT SIGNS POPPING UP .

I had a friend named zuse on the hangouts , he tried to help out a young man and the guy stabbed him to death and stole his wallet and truck
he was caught and is in prison now

Cory that is just awful what happened to your Toyota RV. How some one can do that is beyond me. I feel really , really bad for you. Did the police ever catch them and arrest them for what they did to you?
How many National Parks did you tour so far ? Do you have a National Park Pass Cory? If not buy one as it will pay for itself getting in to many National Parks for free . I wish you the best for many safe journeys around our beautiful country .

Sorry to hear what happened to you as I plan to visit VB too. I just bought a '94 chevy conversion van to travel around in. I know it's easy to steal. I have been looking at those outer door locks like some cargo vans have. I will certainly add an ignition kill switch. Drugs have ruined this country. I used have a beautiful trailer in the woods in AR. Once the recession hit the drug addicts started robbing my shop and throwing rocks at my house and sneaking around and damaging my cars. Cops wouldn't help. I'd even shoot at them and they would still come back. Meth and crack. I sold that place and moved. Still a drug problem here to but so far no trouble, yet. Good luck on your future adventures! Just be careful who you befriend. Some are just jealous if you have something and they don't even though you worked for it. I have a theory; those people ruin their own lives and they know it. Once they have a police record they can't get a job. They go back to hustling dope, stealing and scamming. The part you don't understand is there is an element of fun to it by getting away with it. They don't care who they hurt because they already hurt themselves. Going to jail in my new town is like a "reunion" with friends. It's "sick thinking" to me but I sort of understand.

Cory, over what period of time did this all happen? Did you leave the RV overnight somewhere? Did you loan it to this guy? Was he watching it for you while you were out of town or something? There are so many missing pieces.

That sucks dude, sorry to hear. I have a 1986 clipper toyota motorhome needing some work it has a small roof leak needs interior redone and a few things. It has almost no rust, and only 15,000 original miles on a 22RE Auto! I am the second owner. I am in ohio, if someone wants it before i fix it up, $2000 obo. After I redo it and put about $2000 into it, it will be more like $6500. I will add vids of it to my channel soon.

Cory, I will tell you what I have told my sons. Be glad he only stole your RV. He could have murdered you and there are plenty out there like this. It is sad that we can no longer trust people like we used to. Just take it as a lesson leared and pick up and go on. And don't become cynical. Being cautious is not the same as being cynical. It's unfortunate because now you will be less likely to assist somebody who is really in need and requires your assistance. I hope that you quickly recover from this hateful act by this nasty, ungrateful person. This destructive, horrible person definitely has a karma imbalance after committing this hateful act. He's walking through life with a proverbial stormy black cloud hovering over his head :-(
I myself have been ripped off soooo many times....it took years before I finally stopped trusting ANYONE!!! Even ones I thought would never do stuff like that. Cory it's heartbreaking to watch it again. I've had 1 vehicle broken into & 1 stolen - if someone wants it bad enough a lock won't stop them. Just be you & Karma will always be good to you - hiccups happen on occasion such as the theft but Karma had your back with the new home.

It's baffling man. I don't ubderstand why anyone would do this; it's insanity. The best part of this whole thing will probably be when it gets wiped from your mind a little bit. I know it's no comparison, but when I was threatened in my van I saw a similar nature of person. Just pure hatred. It wears on you, but I rarely even think about it anymore. Just extra careful and prepared nowadays, just as you said that you're going to be.

I tend to wonder if the dude that threatened me ever regretted being terrible that night, but he was wasted, so he probably doesn't even remember. Which honestly pisses me off even more.

No good deed goes unpunished , the person that will do you the most harm is the guy or gal you did the most good. You could literally spend thousands on you and they have the nerve to lie about you and bring you before a judge for theft. I know I have seen it happen to me. People think I am wrong for letting it affect me and how I deal with people but until it happens to you please return to your fantasy land.
Cory excellent on the lo-jack that is about all you can hope for is to prevent this from ever occurring again. Because of people like this I sold all the gold I use to wear and I now wear silver. +Jo smith yeah, I was able to get a lot of info to a detective in Venice and he helped a little, but didn't result in anything that I didn't already find out. I was able to get a lot of info about the kid through his social media because of how my job as a private investigator had trained me

Thieves come in all shapes, sizes, sexes, & racial backgrounds. It also just so happens they also live, steal, & committe other types of robberies in all area's, of the United States. Oh & FYI getting robbed isn't exclusive to the U.S I'm sure most realize this happens in other countries too, right??
So maybe the "implication" that this, was done by a person of color isn't quite fair to the other 90% of NON THIEVES of all colors, races, sexes, & ethnicities.

It sucks that this happened, REALLY! , I've been through some thing very similar but the blame is on the person, or person's who cimnuntted the crime, NOT their entire race!
