    I feel this, the more thrillers you read the more similar and predictable they become. It takes a lot for one to really shock me

    I feel like thrillers are the genre that companies want to just pump out as many books as possible but don't care about quality. Along with romance.

      @lilydelacour 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah I have the same feeling. Although they are the most popular genres, the quality sometimes is just missing. :(

    My top Irish & British thriller authors as follows and in and in no particular order. Claire McGowan ( The Lost and Dead Ground), Claire Douglas (The Couple at No 9 & Just Like the Other Girls), Andrea Mara ( All Her Fault & The Sleeper Lies), Clare MacKintosh (Let Me In, I See You & The Last Party), Lucy Foley ( The Guest List), TM Logan ( The Curfew, Lies & The Catch), Denise Mina (The Long Drop, Still Midnight & The End of the Wasp Season), Fiona Barton (The Window & The Child), and Gillian McAllister (Wrong Place Wrong Time) 📚

    I feel like everyone is in this boat with thrillers 😭 horror has been INCREDIBLE though, in my opinion-- though I've been reading some books from a few years ago, as well as new horror.

    Have you read The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard? To me that’s a true thriller, I could not put it down.
    On a note I loved The Quiet Tenant, I just felt like it said so much and the writing was beautiful. I don’t remember if it’s in the acknowledgments, but the author is French, English is not her first language, yet she wrote this beautiful novel in English herself.

    This was fun! You should do this with other genres or authors (even if you already have a 5 star) or! You could go off those 5 themes you used (classic, new author, 2023 etc) and slot books in to try and get a 5 star!

    Oh. My. Freaking. Gosh. Went off and read The Other Side of Night after watching this and just want to thank you for posting about this book. It’s a favorite of mine and I cried my eyes out in the last quarter of that book😆 without giving away the main theme, I’m off to reading the book Adam Hamdy studied to write TOSON on neuroscience and physics. Mind is still just blown.

    Been out out reading for a while, but I think being in one genre for long eventually runs dry. 😂
    Oh, and btw, I think Abducted is a better term for Kidnapping when it’s an adult.

    Thrillers used to be my most read genre but I feel like it’s so hard to get a good one let alone a 5⭐️ that I now read more horror & fantasy but Im always on the lookout for thrillers that are doing something different! Really enjoyed this video!!🥰

    Even if I enjoy it, I rarely give Thrillers 5⭐ .. it's harder to hit that mark in that genre for me. One 5⭐ from last year was a Psychological Thriller called How Can I Help You by Laura Sims. Another close one was a YA Thriller called Lord of the Fly Fest by Goldy Moldavsky because it was just so fun!

    • @lilydelacour
      @lilydelacour 8 месяцев назад +1

      Same for me. To give 5 stars, a book really has to have something special/ ‘valuable‘ and as much as I like thrillers, they rarely do that for me. 😅

    I read Sometimes I Lie earlier this year and was very disappointed as well. I did not enjoy Things we do in the Dark either. My favorite Jennifer Hillier is Wonderland, I believe I gave it 5 stars. My only 5 star thrillers so far this year have been Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth and Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica. I really think you will love Darling Girls!

    Girl, the last 5 star thriller I've read was in february... LAST YEAR. I technically had one in October too, but it was like a blend between thriller and horror. So yeah. Feel ya. I haven't had a 5 star in general this year yet, and it's honestly tragic.

    As someone who just found your channel, may i recommend thrillers from the 1990s and early 2000s. I am not sure what kind of thriller you enjoy but these are some that have been enjoyed by me and mine: Kathy Reichs: deja dead (Audio book read by Barbara Rosenblatt) this is the series the tv show Bones is based on. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peter's (Barbara Rosenblatt reads the audio books). Most books by Robin Cook. The Pelican Brief by John Grisham. Kiss the Girls. Michael Chrition, JD Robb, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

    I have a vintage recommendation for you. I read my 1st thriller in my early teens back in the 60's. The memory of it still haunts me. It is The Collector by John Fowles. I think you might like it. The genre might be "literary thriller" if that's a thing.

    I love thrillers and they are rarely 5 stars for me. 😂 Then again, I seldom have 5 star reads. I'm pretty picky about what I consider 5 stars. If I gave up on books because I couldn't find a 5 star book, I'd have to stop reading.

    Audrey J Cole “The recipient”
    Is about this serial killer that is executed and donated his organs, a year later, killings exactly like his are starting to happen again, so we follow different perspectives, of several people that could have done it, or, is the recipient the one that adapted this guy’s MO ?
    The audiobook is on Libby, no wait, and it has different voice actors so it’s more like a movie.
    Look up this author, I don’t think she is well known on booktok but should be, I’m planning a long reading weekend!
    Prom weekend for my kids, reading weekend for me 😂
