    How will you know if your bike is detonating was that detonation very minimal or pretty bad?

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  4 месяца назад +1

      The peppering (as I call it) seen on this bikes piston is usually from detonation that comes as the motor gets hot. Higher octane fuel promotes cooler combustion chamber temps and will keep this from happening. This was a mild case but a case none the less. If running straight pump fuel its important to stay tuned with your jetting and keep watch for pinging. If running leaded race fuel you can get away with a lot more before pinging.

    Do u use ethanol in your 2 stroke motors? Does ethanol really make 2t run hotter? And does it wash oil off cylinder walls

    • @chadrides914
      @chadrides914 4 месяца назад +2

      I put 439 hours on a 2019 yz250x. Ran a low compression apex xc head, on 87 octane pump gas that has up to 10% ethanol. Never a problem other than cleaning the pilot jet 2 or 3 times a year. If you ride a lot ethanol won’t cause issues.

      @@chadrides914 will old gas clog pilot quick tho?

    • @chadrides914
      @chadrides914 4 месяца назад

      @@JackMacdonald-ih3ht likely old gas with ethanol will, because the gas evaporates and then sometimes a tiny white fluffy substance (ethanol) can build up on the pilot. The larger the pilot jet the less issue you will have. I don’t ever empty the carb float bowls between rides. Imo having the fuel in them seeing how it’s a 2 stroke, helps keep the float needle lubricated and sealing properly. Also keep in mind most higher compression 2 strokes will need more than 87 pump fuel to prevent detonation the reason I could use it was I lowered the compression with an aftermarket head so I could run cheap easily accessible fuel. I was 4th overall in our Midwest enduro series racing enduros at a competitive B level doing this as I just want you to know I’m not a casual rider, I ride a lot.

    • @UpAllNight91

      Chad is right on! Ethanol blend fuel is ok. I currently use 60% 110 race fuel with 40% 93 pump fuel that has 10% ethanol in it for my smokers. For my cars (Mustangs) I actually prefer 10% or 15% ethanol blended fuel. I have tried non ethanol rec fuel and seen the HP went down a few and fuel trims started climbing away from zero.
