Wow this is the third way I've seen to check for boost leaks and this is by far the most foolproof. Big thanks to you guys for addressing what the fans really want to see.
Good stuff. i personally like to do segments. I like to disconnect the cold and hot pipe ends and cap them off and pressurize them to see if there is any leaks in the intercooler, pipes couplers, BOV etc. If there is none. Then i re connect it and then pressurize the turbo with everything connected. Mainly because sometimes when you have a bunch of vacuum lines that could be leaking and your initially trying to see if a coupler is bad then it can challenge the process. But either way you'll notice the leak when you start spraying soapy water onto those suspected areas.
I know this is 5 years old but it helped me a lot, I made one from rad tube and half a paint can, charged the system and found throttle body seals at fault. Thank you 👍🏻
Good but when you push air there cylinders will allow some air to pass right? They are not 100% sealed. I mean pressure will go down when you stop compressor

hi i have evo 8 with stock turbo running on a aem ems map. my car was tuned yrs ago for like 20lbs of boost. its drove fine for a while and then i hardly drove it so it sat around for long periods of time. then it started overboosting to like 25 26lbs and then boostcut or fuelcut. first time it happend scared me felt like hitting a brick wall. and what's wierd is sometimes itll do all the time driving an hour stop somewhere and drive again and it goes away. its been doing this for years. haven't bothered to really look into it or take to a shop. the car only has 10600 miles so its hardly driven as you can tell. 05 evo 8. would boost leaks cause this issuse. thanks.
I have an issue with my 08 dodge caliber srt4 where when I try to lay into the gas pedal my boost shoots up, my car sputters and pops, then it just sounds like I'm losing a lot of air? If I keep into the pedal it will throw my check engine light on and put the car into limp mode. The code that it reads is a 2261 that says I'm overboosting. My car puts out about 8 lbs of boost. If I reset the code everything works fine. It only happens when I try accelerating quickly and lay into the gas? Plz any help or suggestions???
thanks, on a maf sensor arrangement I know the fuelling will be off if there's a boost leak but am i right in thinking that it will cause a rich condition? I'm studying fuel trims at the minute and trying to diagnose a rough situation under high boost. I'm almost certain it's a boost leak but I just want to clarify for my own understanding the way the ecu responds when it's getting less air than accounted for by the mass air flow sensor. kindly appreciate any help
The system has to be SEALED for this leak test to work. You have intake and exhaust valves that are open to allow that to leak thru the combustion chamber and back out the turbo, this test is worthless ...

Do you have to block off the passage way to the throttle body so the air doesn’t escape into the engine ?
I wouldn't think so, while the throttle will let some air pass by it's shut so you shouldn't have to block it off.
