- Historic footage of Kansas City Downtown Airport MKC (formerly Kansas City Municipal) including Charles Lindbergh Spirit of St. Louis, TWA DC-3, Lockheed Constellation (Connie), bi-planes and more. Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport
My mother and I flew into KC Downtown aboard a DC-3 from Mobile, AL in 1947. I was only 6 wks old; don't remember much. But I definitely remember putting my dad on a Super Constellation for a trip to Lansing, MI and getting home from the Marine Corps on a B-707. I also took my first lesson there in a Piper Cherokee. Thanks for the memories.
Wow! That is an awesome video! I have seen several pictures of the downtown airport during the 'jet age', but no video (film)... This is fabulous!
Aunt & Uncle Alice & Eddie Mooney were at the 1927 Lindy landing at Municipal.
I earned my Private Pilot license here. Great fun !!!
For more vintage footage of the KC airport, check this out. It's a 1950s educational film shot by Centron of Lawrence, KS. TRANSPORTATION BY AIR - 1950s Aviation , Airplanes 3250

This was Kansas cities main airport till 1971 and even towards the end with lots of big jets flying in and out there was no jetways. If it was raining or snowing...to bad! Your walking outside to your plane.
