  • In this film breakdown, we take a look at Detroit Lions DT Alim McNeill, a 3rd-year guy that I would say is having a breakout year in 2023. He's incredibly strong, way quicker than someone his size should be, and has a great pass rush move package. In 2023, his biggest improvement has come in his ability to counter during his pass rush, when his first move doesn't work. To me, he absolutely needs to be the Lions' full-time 3 technique.

That man is strong as hell. He doesn't seem to have lost any power when he cut weight. Don't remember if you mentioned it, but he dropped 20 lbs and 13% body fat in the off-season.

Appreciate very much you pointing out the details of his use of leverage and hands/arms and explaining the reasoning for those actions. Fascinating.

Such a great film study, per usual. This channel really deserves a break out season like these DTs are having haha.
I’d love a Christian Barmore video if you’re interested in more trench work!

💯 agree. Wanna see him on the field every snap of every game. You can tell he's figuring it out and excelling with his confidence, and you don't wanna stunt his growth when a beast is finding his mode!

Ranked by some as top run defender in the 2021 draft class and second-best defensive tackle. Somehow lasted until the 3rd round. Limitations wise scouts were concerned with his 32 5/8’’ arms seen that were viewed as stubby along with Milton Williams who was selected immediately afterward by the Eagles.
Short wingspan in DTs is one of the biggest misconceptions, one would think shorter arms make it harder for offensive linemen to grab onto. Shorter arms can give a quicker punch in hand technique.

They don't have to give him more snaps, they just should give him more pass rushing snaps while cutting back on 1st and 2nd down. Not all or even a lot of those snaps, but say 10 snaps a game go from 1st and 2nd to 3rd down.

I think the video maker's point is that he needs to be in there more, then he will make plays on a more consistent basis. While I would like to see more consistency out of him too, he has shown a pulse on that D line compared to everyone other than Hutch. I like this guy's analysis of McNeil.
