they forgot to talk about how Pepsi and Coca Cola also associate themselves with competing fast food restaurants, McDonald's uses Coca Cola but KFC uses Pepsi, it's a competition on multiple layers
I wish they had mentioned that amazing Cindy Crawford Super Bowl ad for Pepsi. It was so memorable that it was referenced in the final Pepsi ad used in this video.
I noticed how in the vintage Pepsi ads that you see young people and families having fun and enjoying Pepsi. Now with these modern Coke ads with the Share a Coke With You slogan I see young people smiling laughing and sharing bottles of Coke with their friends.
So, kind of like Disney and Dreamworks? The former focusing on a more traditional emotional narrative, and the other trying to be more modern take as a response?
The Coke commercial in the Philippines is still by far the best. It featured Nikki Gil singing while giving Coke bottles away. I know there are other country versions. It still gives me goosebumps.
Guy talks about the 1999 Pepsi ad saying it’s the first time humour has been used and showing the coke logo, but this is omitting the Pepsi commercials where the delivery drivers of each company shares their cola with the other and the coke driver refuses to return the Pepsi. A whole series of commercials around this.
tαkє mє tσ thє sky try it some more. I grew up with coke and one day I tried Pepsi and didn’t like it... I tried it more then I started to like it. If you still don’t like it don’t worry I don’t care
Pepsi was left in the dust the moment they mentioned Coke by name. Whilst coke may hold Pepsi as a competitor in the market place they've never held them as a competitor in their messaging. As much as Pepsi may have debased coke for a spell they ultimately fumbled the ball by not leaving it at that. The continued juxtaposition on Pepsi's part only introduces the concept of one of the two specific brands, Pepsi and Coke, being a loser. Personal tastes across the board are just that, personal. Both a syrupy-fizzy water. Neither has any real benefit for you. So the only thing you're really betting on there's that enough people like you more than the other guy. But brands and the image they cultivate become part of people's personalities. So the idea that you'd get someone who probably never considered themselves a 'coke' person into a position where they felt compelled to choose the 'better' tasting soda, you've already lost. Yes, they had significant gains for a decade or so but when coke eventually relaunched, even though it ultimately failed, who were they competing against? Pepsi, or themselves? It wasn't 'the-pepsi-killer', 'the better soda', or else anything like that. It was simply, 'New-Coke'. That alone says it all.
Pepsi. The pepsi challenge proves it. It's irrational to like coke after taking the challenge and choosing pepsi. You'd only like coke more because the advertisements (which shouldnt affect your opinion) would rewire your brain. ...unless you really aren't clinging to a brand. I still drink coke. It's cool. Its just I personally prefer pepsi. You know what's really not nice? Diet coke.
Even Jules in Pulp Fiction knew it would take some divine intervention to turn a coke into Pepsi. He didnt say Pepsi into coke. Now thatd be a tragedy.
Not hating, but a better video to do would be the icons associated with these brands and other big brands throughout the years. And how the market is affected positively or negatively depending on who they use.
This would run the risk of giving too much of a 'deep but narrow' viewpoint of the industry; there's more to advertising than choosing an icon. I would love to see some deeper videos on advertising, but it's hard to strike the balance between depth, breadth and being easy to watch.
I just prefer coke because it doesn't taste as sweet as other colas to me (idk about the sugar content but taste wise it's less sweet). I generally dislike pepsi but pepsi max isn't bad. Also cherry pepsi max is superior to cherry coke but Dr Pepper being the ultimate cherry cola no competition .
these type of ads should be banned. cola and pepsi and other sugar beverages are as close to poison as possible. i know personally what it did to me... either way, wo tf chooses what to drink based off ads? you drink what u like... also cola's better
they forgot to talk about how Pepsi and Coca Cola also associate themselves with competing fast food restaurants, McDonald's uses Coca Cola but KFC uses Pepsi, it's a competition on multiple layers
Also Taco Bell sells Pepsi products. Burger King sells Coca-Cola products. So does White Castle. I'm not sure about Wendy's.
@@melissacooper4282 i believe Burger King is using Pepsi aswell (here in the Netherlands anyway)
Movie theater too
@@melissacooper4282 Wendy’s is Coke also
Yet both universal and Disney Have Coca Cola…
coke advertising just works man... for the longest time I thought that pepsi was like a rip-off coke lol
Pepsi IS a rip-off Coke...lol Coke was the FIRST drink to introduce "cola" flavour into the world.
What stands out for me is that Pepsi has put down Coke in it's adds but Coke never talks about Pepsi!
You should search the battle content, image,... between them on social media
I wish they had mentioned that amazing Cindy Crawford Super Bowl ad for Pepsi. It was so memorable that it was referenced in the final Pepsi ad used in this video.
There's always a lot left on the cutting room floor.
Amitabh I am sure you are born in the late 60's or early 70's! LOL
Where's Pepsi Man god damnit?
Yeah!
Me
This is about American commercials, not Japanese media franchises.
I noticed how in the vintage Pepsi ads that you see young people and families having fun and enjoying Pepsi. Now with these modern Coke ads with the Share a Coke With You slogan I see young people smiling laughing and sharing bottles of Coke with their friends.
Coca Cola family where u at?
not here
Me
All Hail Coca-Cola! The first to bring "cola" flavour to soda stands.
The best was when the kid steps on the cans. Basically spending 3 times.
I'll never forget that iconic Pepsi ad with Britney, Pink and Beyonce. It was amazing
Both of these brands have become almost synonymous and interchangeable with each other I think
Somehow in a restaurant when a customer asks for a drink, it's usually easier to say "Coke" or "Coca Cola" than "Pepsi"!
And cocaine is easier to say that pepsiane.
So, kind of like Disney and Dreamworks? The former focusing on a more traditional emotional narrative, and the other trying to be more modern take as a response?
Brilliant analysis!

The Coke ad that RUclips showed me at the beginning of this video made me not want to buy Coke.
Coke will always be the best but Coke won the 1886-1980 Pepsi won the 80s, Coke took it back in the 90s and has held onto it ever since
pepsi=like coco cola=reply

A nice idea as well! There are certainly great stories around celebrity, spokesperson, and mascot brand building.
especially nike and kap
