Normally I dislike actors giving those kind of compliments to others on the couch, because it comes off all wrong - almost a humble brag. However, this compliment was both deserved and well said. I applaud them both! Well done!
Two things make it genuine: the fact that Hugh Jackman is a genuine dude, and the fact that the compliment is going to Gary Oldman who is truly one of the greatest actors alive.
I love how high Gary's voice gets when he says "Thank you so much." to Hugh for the complement. Agree with Hugh, Gary is one of the best. I feel lucky to have gotten see him just better and better over the years.
I love the way Mr. Oldman thanks Hugh Jackman for his words. He sounds like he is genuinely mortified and grateful for his words. Oldman is awesome and can do any role.
The Academy is usually very reluctant to give Best Actor to young actors though. And Oldman is long overdue. Considering these factors I'd say Oldman is probably the front runner. I still think Chalamet is second most likely to win, all things considered.
harshakillampally i don't disagree with you...but academy has to start respecting young actors too,so why not start this year as chalamet is equally deserving.....but i'll be happy if anyone of them wins....
Gary Oldman really is one of the greatest actors of all time. I saw Bram Stokers Dracula so many times, I still have it memorized. My friends and I would exit the theater, go to the bathroom and sneak right back in to watch it again. I remember being so excited to get a VHS copy of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead when my local video store went out of business. You couldn't buy a copy, so we used to just rent it a few times a month. I asked the manager how much it would cost if I just "lost" it, and it would have been $100....and this was a VHS in the early 1990's!! I think I payed about $20 for it and I still have it, the same copy I rented about 20 times.
It's impossible to be sick of it because it's genuine. And I feel the same way, I keep thinking "He must have a bad day every now and then", but he is always sweet.
At 01:57, you can see Oldman feeling the catharsis of a true artist: getting the applause he knows he deserves, and a sincere compliment about his talent. That is *moving*
The thing about Gary Oldman doing Winston Churchill doing James Brown is that it is so utterly believably Churchill. From the facial expressions to the limb movements, it just feels bang-on accurate!
Some actors duplicate performances with different characters. Gary doesn't. One of, if not the greatest of all-time. Drexel in True Romance is my favorite. ❤️ you, Gary.
Honestly that compliment is not even a big deal- it's like "well.. duh". He's just clearly the best. The others are obviously top actors, but they're still students compared to him.
I could NOT believe it when it said Gary Oldman was churchil the guy is truly extraordinary.HE is the guy That Tom Hardy Aspires to so he must be special.
For a few hours we have a chance to see Winston Churchill at his greatest moment. If Gary doesn't win the Oscar for best actor, then no one should. Winston Churchill is a hero to many people in many countries.
What I like the most about Gary Oldman is that he looks so different (or almost different) in each of the roles he played, and each of the roles looks so different compare to his usual self when he is not acting. And he delivered a brilliant performance in each of them. He is indeed one of the best and underrated actor in the industry..
I first saw Gary Oldman when he played "Dracula" ! What a performance, not only for that role, but in every role he plays. He gives it all for his characters!
I know it's a minor role for Mr. Oldman....but when he played Commissioner Jim Gordon on the Batman movie....he was so good I didn't even know it was him at first.
Although I've seen him only in the Dark knight films, I will say he was part of my childhood in COD world at war and black ops. I will never forget when his voice broke me out of Vorkuta in Black ops 1. Thank you Gary!
From 3:00 to 3:16 it's epic. There's your Christmas gift and early new year's gift too. God I love this show soooo soooo soooo much and it's far better than the other shows.
GARY OLDMAN IS AMAZING! I saw State of Grace, then I saw Dracula, and I remember thinking wow, what a change of characters. It was a learning experience as a young man watching movies. When you are young movies have a great effect, and seeing an actor change roles, but still bring a story to life like that is a big eye opening experience. It show the craft behind the scenes.
You got to give it to actors. They go through the same routine (e.g. "the whole thing took 4 hours to put on... i went through 30.000 dollars worth of cigars... people went to decorate their Christmas trees and i went and had colonoscopy") on every talk show so sincerely like it's their first time talking about it.
Hugh was on point, in a lot of Gary's films you forget you are watching Gary Oldman. Is that not the entire point of acting? To become invisible as an actor and only let the character show?
I need to see more Gary as Winston getting on the good foot James Brown style. It's funny, cute and the man's got soul. Sweetly said hugh with no ego and loads truths. Gary is constantly ignored for his talent, but we know better.
I feel like Hugh Jackman never misses the opportunity to be an absolute top notch individual, he's always singing people's praises.
Yea haha but it was very much deserving
Sometimes literally.
Listened to him on TIm Ferriss's podcast and he really is a genuinely good guy. Quite wholesome
I like this comment 🙂
That was a hugh compliment
We are all Hugh Jackman when we talk about Gary. 😀
Agreed 👍
yes!
Totally agree, Hugh.
nina capila yes yes yes. I think i have something in my eye....must just pop upstairs....sniff. No sarcasm, great bloke.
The Dark Knight wouldn't have cut it with out Gary Oldman.
Usually actors gushing to each other can be weird to watch, but not in this case because Hugh Jackman means it. And because it's true.
Jennyfisch yeah and the earnesty of it showed actually
It was still weird
@@brianmccluskey6810 Not really, no.
Hugh Jackman saying what we're all thinking. I mean honestly it's a crime against humanity that he hasn't won an oscar yet
It's more like the Oscars don't mean as much; a Great is a Great and his work speaks for itself
Jade Lee Hugh Jackman or Gary Oldman? I'll assume both.
So you were saying something ?
@@huskiehuskerson5300 in his defence, his comment was made a year before he won the Oscar
God bless you Gary Oldmam. I hope you live for another 70 years so I can keep seeing your films till I die.
You suck video a******. Big single b****go away.
Alias a b**** just go away
Old mam haha
Koroshiya the talent in the room is crazy, all greats guys too, Gary and MJ kings of Thier craft.
Denam
That could change soon.
So you're complimenting him on his compliment?
Completely! :P
Ryan Pfeiffer lol
yes.. agreed.. and GO seemed so humble and appreciative.. the compliment was sincerely genuine and not lip service ✌🏻
Thank you, Hugh Jackman. Thank you for praising Gary Oldman, one of the most brilliant actors of all time.
When I first saw Gary in The Professional I was awestruck on how good of a villain he could play. Hugh Jackman is 100% correct.
Stansfield: "I don't have time for this MICKEY MOUSE BULLSH*T!"
Do you know who likes it? EVVVERRYYOOONNNE!!!
I love how high Gary's voice gets when he says "Thank you so much." to Hugh for the complement. Agree with Hugh, Gary is one of the best. I feel lucky to have gotten see him just better and better over the years.
Dito
Gary Oldman could be my grandmother and I wouldn't know it he's that good of an actor
He could have been playing me all my life and I wouldn't know
Wolverine complimenting Dracula and having a nice chat on a couch, no big deal.
Andreas Nordvall you mean, van helsing complimenting dracula?
Andreas Nordvall Yeah, you know that Wolverine isn't a Werewolf, right?
And the devil chills between them
Jim gordon
lol more like Van Helsing chatting with Dracula even though they're sworn enemies
It's true. Dracula, Sirius Black, Gordon, Zorg, Churchill. So many iconic characters, so many other great performances!
Vaan1891 dont forget the unforgettable lord shen in kung fu panda 2
His turn as Beethoven in 'Immortal beloved' is one of my favorite parts ever.
Drexl Spivey
Stansfield
Sid Vicious
I love the way Mr. Oldman thanks Hugh Jackman for his words. He sounds like he is genuinely mortified and grateful for his words. Oldman is awesome and can do any role.
Seeing Hugh declare his admiration for Gary is pure gold
Gary Oldman has got some serious dance moves.
MikeMJPMUNCH absolutely 😁😁😁
Wow, you really are a huge idiot, hahaha.
*Sirius
Such devotion to his craft. Agree with Jackman full out. Thank you, Gary. JF
Serious funk in the trunk. Get down.
@@lilyevans4244 brilliant Lily :-)
I want to see gary oldman and Cristoph Waltz together in a new tarantino movie.
Quester91 The movie set would probably explode in awesomeness.
Quester91 omg! Yes
YES! That's brilliant casting.
Incoming Oscar for Gary Oldman, finally!
harshakillampally not this year sadly....it's timothée chalamet's to loose.....

harshakillampally reluctant?? Anna Paquin, Eddie Redmayne, Nat Portman all very young when they received an oscar
Apparently Daniel Day Lewis has once again killed it in Phantom Thread. This is going to be a tough one.
At 3:00 Zac says, “For the Oscar.” Looool.
And he did win it.
Good to see he's receiving the praise that he deserves! One of the best actors of all times!
He is such a chameleon, Gary Oldman. He could play a 4 year old girl and it would be convincing. I love him!
Ahh Gary Oldman, a true chameleon in entertainment. Hats off to you

Hugh Jackman that guy compliments everyone. I wanna be sick at all of his niceness but I just can't ! How are people like him made!!!! I want one.
It's impossible to be sick of it because it's genuine. And I feel the same way, I keep thinking "He must have a bad day every now and then", but he is always sweet.
Jennyfisch hit the nail on head there!!!👌👌👌
You want one because he means everything he says.
I really hope Gary Oldman wins the Oscar this time. It's alredy long overdue!
Gary Oldman after Hugh's words: Oh stop it you
He reacted the same after Joseph Gordon Levitt said similar words in a Dark Knight Rises interview :) aww how i love Gary
An OSCAR to Mr Oldman. Αlthough he deserved it for years, now
At 01:57, you can see Oldman feeling the catharsis of a true artist: getting the applause he knows he deserves, and a sincere compliment about his talent. That is *moving*
If only those spectacles didn't hide his eyes....
Gary Oldman is the best actor ever. He's a legend.
Give the man an OSCAR!!!!!!!!!!
He will get one this year, No doubt!
I say that every other year and he's still haven't got one! ^^
He got one :3
Gary is truly one of the best actors ever!
The thing about Gary Oldman doing Winston Churchill doing James Brown is that it is so utterly believably Churchill. From the facial expressions to the limb movements, it just feels bang-on accurate!
Thank you Hugh for conveying what I would've said to Gary myself
GO, Gary, GO!!! Get those awards!
It's nice to hear the compliment from Hugh!
Gary Oldman is legendary. What an actor! My favourite!
Gary Oldman wins at everything. I would inappropriately interrupt all his sentences just to gasp at how amazing he is.
best actor ever, Gary Oldman!
Some actors duplicate performances with different characters. Gary doesn't. One of, if not the greatest of all-time. Drexel in True Romance is my favorite. ❤️ you, Gary.
Sirius Black!!!!OMG somebody inform Harry that his godfather is alive.😱😲
‘And I went and had a colonoscopy’ ICONIC
Stucky Doritos so blunt as well! 😂😂
Colonic too.

Iconic ? You must be American
I just hope nothing happens to him down the road.

Daniel L you,re right😉😊😊
Love Gary Oldman❤️❤️👏🏾👏🏾
Looked like Gary was tearing up a bit after Hugh's praises of him lol.
Hugh is so adorable
Gary oldman is one of the most fantastic actors
I could NOT believe it when it said Gary Oldman was churchil the guy is truly extraordinary.HE is the guy That Tom Hardy Aspires to so he must be special.
Gary Oldman could be anyone on that couch including Graham Norton and you wouldn't even notice it's him.
I still think Leon and tinker Taylor soldier spy have two of his best performances in.
I'd switch Leon with Dracula but totally agree with you about Tinker. He was breathtaking as Smiley
Gary Oldman you’re an acting gift from the heavens
Thank you for the support and love ❤️ I really appreciate you.
Hands down, Gary is one of the greatest actors I've ever seen.
Love him in Leon, Romeo Is Bleeding and The Dark Knight trilogy
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Yeah he great in that
True Romance he has a cameo role
Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK
Yeah he brilliant in that
Hugh Jackman speaking for all of us and making me cry for Gary's reaction 😭
For a few hours we have a chance to see Winston Churchill at his greatest moment. If Gary doesn't win the Oscar for best actor, then no one should. Winston Churchill is a hero to many people in many countries.

My favorite character Gary played was Zorg in 5th element.
With all that make-up, Gary really looks like an Old Man
Dennis Caouki he is an old man isn't he ? Lol
Hey it’s captain obvious!!!!

Gary Oldman deserves all the happiness in this world! Thanks for making such beautiful movies! :)
I love Gary Oldman and Graham's suit!
YESSSS! He finally got a friggin oscar. About DAMN time
I love Gary Oldman. One of the most underrated actors!
I think that compliment from Hugh Jackman proves he's highly rated..not underrated
Thank you, Hugh Jackman! No oscars is needed to validate the greatness of Gary Oldman's acting.
definitively my favorite actor
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman makes my heart go pitter patter. Sexy, brilliant, beautiful
What Hugh Jackman said!! Love Gary Oldman!
I bet everyone will NEED to see The Darkest Hour!
God I love Gary Oldman so much !
he's right about the Darkest Hour - simply unique
I first saw Gary Oldman when he played "Dracula" ! What a performance, not only for that role, but in every role he plays. He gives it all for his characters!
A favorite movie of mine~ Gary as Winston was just amazing!!
One of the best British actors
Gary Oldmen looks so much like Winston CHurchill it's scary
GARY OLDMAN IS THE GREATEST.
Hugh Jackman fangirling about Gary Oldman is so precious ... just love it!!
Wild to see a broadcast video that has interlacing issues these days. Really takes me back.
Anyone other than Jackman and that would have sounded patronising and sycophantic but from him it’s authentic. And Oldman is a treasure.
I don't know I've ever seen a better performance than Oldman's as Dracula. It was absolutely incredible.
Gary is one of the best actors in the world. I love him so much
I know it's a minor role for Mr. Oldman....but when he played Commissioner Jim Gordon on the Batman movie....he was so good I didn't even know it was him at first.
Totally agree, Hugh. Would like to add..., I really liked Gary Oldman's work in Léon: The Professional (with Jean Reno and a child Natalie Portman)
Gary is a gem, a national treasure (sometimes that term is overused, but certainly applies to him).
He’s adorable. Love all his movies. Legend! :)

Oldman's delivery of "the speech" to parliament is astonishing. Chills every. single. time.
I love Gary

He may have been a brilliant Churchill but how good was his James Brown?
Gotta love how Hugh Jackman takes every chance he can get to give a hero their flowers. 😊

Gary needs to get rid of his glasses. He has the most beautiful eyes. They're intense and brilliant.

I remember him in Friends... funny 😃😃😃
When he has the right director to keep him from going over the top he is truly brilliant.
If Gary Oldman does not win the Oscar for best actor, the Oscars will have officially lost all credibility.
His performance in Leon is one of the greatest I’ve ever seen
