- Here's a tour and overview of the Dalby Forest Red trail and the Black world cup xc loop, With some tips and insights to help you plan your ride!
The red mtb trail is a huge ride when combined with the black and it comes in at about 25 miles. The red is fairly mellow with a great flow and some leg burning climbs.
The black world cup track was my favourite part which has some steep climbs and more technical riding(Medusas Drop) The Black XC is a loop which you can add onto the red to extend the ride.
Overall great trail centre with a few dull sections but you soon forget about those when you get to some amazing single track and fun flowing trail. A Great day out for riders who are bike fit or want to build on that.
For nearby accommodation i would highly recommend the Yorkshire cycle hub which is an amazing facility for riders which loads of great riding on its doorstep.

My local trail centre. Feel so lucky to have it on my doorstep
Awesome! Yeah couldn't agree more!! Very jealous
Same
Hitting them amazing trails tomorrow!!! Can’t wait!!! Send it!!! 🤘🏼
Yeah boyyyy!
Love the video, although £9 for parking is nothing when it’s invested in creating these amazing trails around Dalby. We need to support the forestry commission where we can. Keep up the good work 👍
Cheers Lee, Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah i see where you're coming from and it makes sense. Still a tad steep though .....
Parking is only £4 off season. £9 represents excellent value for money if youre doing the red route tbh.
Dalby is brilliant. I did laugh when you said the end was in sight. I recognised that and its only about half way round 😆. A full bladder is essential, 3 litres. There are escape routes at regular intervals which take you back to the road and a short pedal back to the main car park. Excellent video though, really shoes some of the character of the place.
Hahaa yeah, the second half was a grind! That's good to know.......could of done with that info whilst filming haha. Thanks
had my first trip round the red yesterday and i’m in love with the place. great video showing the black route, really want to give that a go on my next trip.
umtomtom What a ride! Love that loop. Glad you enjoyed it👍
On my to do list, love that mini valley section where you did the drone shot 👍
Place just looks "magical"
Toby Dog MTB It’s crazy how nice it is through that section..... never wanted it to end! There’s some really good riding up that neck of the woods and all within an hour or so of each other.....
@@MtbTrailHub will report back if my ebike makes it round haha
Toby Dog MTB 😂 If that runs out you’ll be in trouble!!😮
@@MtbTrailHub 😜 eco loads I feel!!
Next time your up north check out the Hope Valley area in the Peak District. There is some crazy over 30 mile loops around there. 4000ft plus of climbing and descending. Great vid this place looks mint I need to visit ASAP
Heard some great things about that area.....The original plan was to ride in the peaks but swapped it for a ride on the York Moors..... next time! Thanks Guy, glad you liked it 👍
I go to Scarborough every holiday will definitely be riding out to it
Tom Bowman Good stuff👌 Check out the Next video too which includes the Yorkshire cycle hub..... you could tag along on one of their group rides too 👌
Got the feel of the place in that vlog Jamie. One of the best days riding I’ve done....the essence of mountain biking in one epic loop! We’ll have to get out again soon, top fella, top channel. Keep it up Dude. 😎👍🥂
Thanks mate!! Very kind of you to say..... and you bossed it on the camera! Thanks again pal, hope to catch up soon 👍
Good 👍 review, going there tomorrow
Thanks,Hope you enjoy it!
@@MtbTrailHub yes mate, me and my 13 year old smashed it and got cracking weather to boot. Ticked off the red. Back again this weekend 👍
this trail broke me! 2 days of none stop back to back riding in my northen mtb adventure, 3rd day Dably forest, halfway ran out of water, sun going down, by the time i got back to the car park it was kinda dark but realised i was at the main carpark but i parked by the skills area, so thats another long climb to go until i reached my car
Hahaa, o dear! It's easy to underestimate how long of a slog it is around there!! The same pretty much happened to us! Such a big loop!!
Too much climbing at Dalby for my liking haha. You should check out hamsterley forest and guisborough woods
Peter Dixon 💯 on the hit list for next time 👍 Thanks for the heads up!
Ive got a cube e bike and it makes it round the red route with 1 or 2 bars left...brilliant ride
No troubles for the cube 👌. Sounds like you could do with a bit more boost action 😁
@@MtbTrailHub love it in there. Gonna give the black routes a whirl ..not quit sure what you mean bud 🤔
Richard Hutton yeah it’s brilliant! I meant if you’re riding in boost mode then you could get through the battery🤪
@@MtbTrailHub ohh right ! ,,, I don't have a boost mode thats why I didn't understand..its turbo
Beautiful place, I think I choose wrong country to live 🤔😉👍
Tomek 😂. Not many hills in Holland I hear 😜???
Having these so close you can bike, you get bored of the trails, so some people have built some off piste if you want to check out these!
Yeah that's the same with anywhere, Check out the rest of the Northern Tour series to find a few other places nearby.
Yeah i bet theres some gold hidden in there!!
Love the mini valley, it’s so pretty! I’ve seen drone footage down there that is breathtaking 🤩 I love how you use your drone footage ☺️
Moonbather Thanks, appreciate the comment. It’s such an amazing section...... if only it was longer..... 😁
Dam this looks good you deserve much more subscribers
Thanks pal, Yeah i think so to! hahaa It's such a nice ride, quite pedaly but good
Haha, just found this video, this is my local do ride it a lot made me laugh when you said think this is coming to an end, lol, goes on for ever I’ve just got back from a full loop there
Hahaa, Yeah......how foolish! I will never under estimate a trail centre red again! haha
@@MtbTrailHub haha, good trail though
I’m impressed at how much you get about ! Hope you didn’t miss out on Guisborough woods while you was up there ! I’m sure its hills where visible from that new bike place in your vid
This was a last push to make the most of the dry days this year..... 7 days of riding and driving up and down the uk! Fair to say I was destroyed by the end of it 😂 Couldn’t fit in Guis but would love to get another trip back up that area ..... maybe next year! 👌 Anywhere else you’d recommend oop north?
Mtb Trail Hub I’ve only ridden Guis! But as far as recommendations up north, I’d say Scotland 😀
Scotland has GOT to be done......one day.....
yay i live right next to this and am going next week. so excited
Awesome!!! Have a blast 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Your videos are quality, kudos.
I appreciate that! Thanks
Don't understand the critics of this place, it was in my top 3 places (I stopped riding 2 years ago). It has everything you could wish for, and a great flow, with some very tricky bits. You do have to be fit to put in a good time though, which is why the critics are ranting, because they obviously prefer bike lifts and downhill tracks, or use ebikes. If you ride Dalby regularly, you will get VERY fit indeed, aim for 2 hours or under for the Red route. When you rode through that valley section 6:15 ish, you missed the little tricky bits up the sides. When you said you could smell the end, lol, you had a good 8 miles to go ! Only place I like as much as Dalby is Gisburn.
Gisburn is next on the list! The amount of times we thought the end was coming......never had a trail drag out that far before haaha. It would be great to have as a local if you're trying to get in shape. Overall though i agree with you and it is a great ride out!
Gisburn has a lot more tricky black bits, it's awesome but I wish it was longer. I'm sure you will love it !
Nik Gnashers spot on 👌 can’t wait and thanks for the heads up👍
Nice video, Go to Gisburn forest now
JAMMTB71 JAMES ROBERTS Thanks James..... Gonna have to be next year now 😮😁
@@MtbTrailHub Shame you would love Gisburn
JAMMTB71 JAMES ROBERTS Next time 💯🙌🏼
Goin 1st time this Saturday. Pray for nice weather please everyone!
It' UK winter......I'm sure it was lovely! haha
Looks mint. When was this visit? Surely not recently?
Joe E yeah it’s great👍 This was early September just before the rain rolled in👌
Love all your videos, but just a tip, it’s better without the background music- it’s distracting and also means that tyre traction sound info is masked out. Keep the vids coming.
ODDJOB Thanks for the feedback and glad you’re loving them👍
what drone do you use love ur videos
Rich Wiltshire Cheers Rich 👍 Got the Mavic Air..... incredible bit of kit, Mavic have just released a new drone which is pocket size and comes under the 250g weight limit, looks pretty good
.....by the way....it was closer to 28 miles not 25. My math brain was fried after 7 hours on the trails!!
HUGE day!
Looks epic. Just checked to see how far this place is from me, and it's too far!!! :( Welp
Michael Mazani 😂. Yeah same for me too..... combined with a long weekend or week away then it’s worth it! Great place 👌
It’s the local trail for me
Will you be visiting Hamsterley on your tour
I went to Danny Harts bike Park ..... didn’t have enough time for Hamsterly too..... maybe next time
@@MtbTrailHub well if you do ever visit again ride a trail called k-line nothing else really like it at a Normal trail centre
Nice ! Thank for the heads up👍
What... The world cup course was closed just now when I was here 😑😣
Carrot aaaah shame..... Guves you a good reason to go back though 😜
My problem with Dalby is its 95% climbing for what feels like 5% descending, alot of the berms on the downhills are really not looked after and are just filled with loose rocks and debris
Trogg Harsh criticism but I see where you’re coming from....I think it has a good flow..... remember at the end of the day it is an xc loop🤷🏼♂️
@@MtbTrailHub living in Yorkshire 30 min drive away, compared to most places Dalby hasn't struck the right balance personally, its good if you start at the top at dixons hollow and head down however even in the vid 2/3 of the way through you where explaining you where running on fumes, 25 miles is too long for a first time rider expecting a red route. And you can tell with the first descent just after starting at the visitor centre the berms aren't kept in great condition, even the jumps at dixons hollow you guys even admitted are looking in a bit of a sorry state too. Personally, the red route needs to be cut in two, and both resulting loops would gain from adding a few more features to the descents to prolong them rather then up and almost straight back down.
Im not being harsh, I'm just saying what I honestly feel from the first time I visited Dalby and have felt riding there ever since
Trogg It could be better but it’s a solid ride out, There is a blue loop too I believe which is shorter for first timers???
Admittedly Keith and i where waiting for the epic final decent which didn’t really come, but more of a up and down flow to the car park....
Where are your favourite trails In your area? Sooo much to choose from......
@@MtbTrailHub if I was to pick one out of the blue, I'd say Leeds urban bike park, but that's less of a full day out and more of a laugh about with good mates. Another place I really love riding is Gisburn, bit further away but it's always worth it 😁😁
Got to agree. I live close and will only pedal there if the rest of the moors are waterlogged. Awful place. 90% of the red is probably green and there are a couple of very very short sections which are black, which will catch out the unwary... And do.
It's a real shame. It should be a northern rival to the Welsh BPs. The forest comiision charge enough.
I'm thinking of hiring a bike and doing this. How long was the route you did? The cycle hire is either 3 hour or the full day.
I can't remember exactly but we do mention it at the end of the video, around 20miles give or take.
depends on your fitness and speed really but i'd imagine 3 hours would be enough to do the red and black for the first time.
@@MtbTrailHub thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm going to book on this month.
What bike you on mate
This was the Marin alpine trail, great bike 👍
Here’s a better look at it……ruclips.net/video/49Tkx96LDZ4/видео.html
I have just bought a scott genius
@@MtbTrailHub review
@@simonchaddock3694 nice, lovely bikes👌
I know it has been said but £9 isn't bad for what you get to ride.
As long as it goes back into the trails then i don't mind.
Mate that's blue route
Think it's graded red because of the distance......it's a fair ride !
To many long boring uphill fire roads for little return going downhill just as you start enjoying it back to plodding up a fire road.
Yeah you're not wrong, They definitely dragged the loop out, good fitness blast though
Nice place to ride but 1min downhill and 10min clime 😂
Yeah true, Same for alot of the UK. Lovely place Dalby, but if you don't like a good pedal then look elsewhere .
(said for the benefit of others reading this....sounds like you know the score) hahaa
Way to much peddling for me bud
Alisdair England you didn’t see the half of it! 😂 Huge loop!
Only do the off piste, the rest is crap. They don't spend any money on it, always asking for volunteers. The only funds are ST holders who tick the biking box.
They only care about families/walkers who are daft enough to pay £10.
Yeah I think you're right, although I enjoyed the trail centre loop, I can't help but think there is so much better hidden in this forest for more experienced riders! It's a shame the gov put such tight restrictions in place and stops natural trails being put on the map.
