Hey Brayden, just got mine and the handle circumstance came out to 4.5 compared to the listed spec at 4.25 like the original dbd, did u notice that on yours?
@@johnw323their website says 4.25” so I wonder if it’s a batch error or something. If you take the stock grip off and replace it with an overgrip it makes it smaller. I’ve done that before with other paddles.
@pickleballeffect Im currently playing with the vatic pro flash. Would this be an upgrade if i bought this? This paddle has my attention, how big of a transition would i have going to the ♾️ ?
I think the big move is the removal of the edge guard , this will be the way to go - giving everyone more playable surface and increased maneuverability. Thermoformed paddles will all start doing this. Yes they will not be as durable...but performance will trump durability with high end players.
I want to see the definative pickleball paddle reviewer match! Braydon Unsicker and John Kew vs Chris Olsen and Will Chaing. What paddle will they use? Will they take a time out to open up their bags with a quiver of paddles for more power, spin, pop or control?
Thanks for the review. I just bought the infinity using your link. Also picked up the edge guard tape. I really need that tungsten tape! I can’t stand putting Selkirk logo tape on my non Selkirk paddles!
Wonderful review. I was wondering how the stats would compare to the original DBD once you made your suggested weight and grip mods. Seems like the changes you made to the Infinity essentially got you close to a standard model but I don't think you would play the standard out of the box?
It sure looks like an edge guard around that paddle from what I've seen in these videos. At some point, hope to try it to my Favorite DBD original model. Thx
I watch a lot of your videos. Love your straght forward feed back. I play with a BD 16mm. I was gifted a Vatic Pro Prism 16mm ( orange one) and like it. Does the Vatic play similar to the DBD16?
Hi Brayden, based on your recommendation and this video, I am finally graduating from a cheap paddle to a really decent paddle. Thank you for your advice and your discount code! My one question for you is should I edge tape this paddle? On your video you said these paddles do take a beating, so I am wondering if that’s a good idea or not! If it is, do you recommend a brand of edge tape to purchase? Thanks again for the push to the DBD paddle
Nice! I'm glad my stuff was helpful. You'll definitely want some edge tape with this paddle. I actually make and sell edge tape and offer it in three sizes. The Narrow size listed here fits it the best, a.co/d/4biZgdf.
@@pickleballeffect Thanks Brayden! I am ordering it now! So I ordered the 16 mm DBD paddle! Looking at the tape size, the narrow says it’s best for a 14mm paddle! Does the 16mm dbd paddle fall into the narrow size? I notice you only tape the top half. I suppose that makes sense! Lastly my wife uses a Paddletek Tempest Wave! What size edge tape works for her paddle? I am going to buy her some as well! Thanks again
@@greglee1585 Gotcha, I thought you were getting the DBD Infinity since that's the video you commented on ha in which case the Narrow option would have been best. For the regular DBD you'll want the Standard option. And for you wife the Narrow option would be the way to go since the core is only 14mm.
@@pickleballeffect Whoops! Yes, I got the six 6.0 zero double black diamond. I guess I watched a lot of your videos yesterday . So regular tape for my DBD paddle and some narrow for my wife’s Tempest wave
I replied to someone else who mentioned the cost of the paddle. They also lack a good warranty/return policy. Here’s what I put. I like the “good” paddle I’ve got, but the downside is pretty big. I bought two DBDs. One had a misshaped handle. Look at their return/exchange policy before you buy. You must make a “video” and pay for shipping both ways. I went back and forth with them for three weeks before deciding to just take the loss. The warranty is only 90 days I believe as well. Not worth $220 for me.
Do you think the BD would be a good choice if looking for a power paddle? I have a DBD and would like more don't know if the BD has much more power than the DBD. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
I’m playing with a Vatic Pro Prism Flash which is great for power but it’s slightly too heavy and doesn’t have consistent control. I’ve heard this paddle has better control. Would this be a good upgrade?
This one would be lighter and absorbs pace off the ball well though it has a little tighter sweet spot compared to the Prism Flash so you'd have to get used to that.
Question about the Black Diamond. Im in the market for one right now, if you had to buy one, would you buy the BD standard weight or the BD Pro weight?
I’d go with the standard weight. It has plenty of weight behind it as is and is easier to customize with lead if you want. You can always add weight but you can’t take it away.
Can you really feel the difference with the 2 grams on each side? It seems so minimal but just want to hear if you think it makes a big difference on playability.
I just received mine and when compared with my DBD it is a little shorter in length. Did you notice this? In your review you mentioned the face being larger now due to not having a edge guard. I am not sure if that is the case with my Infinity. The grip on mine is also larger too but I see that as a positive.
i had an issue with the DBD with twist weight and now the infinity is even less....nope...even with weights, my DBD felt much better but I would need to add at least 6g per side to get close to the swing weight of my older paddle on the new Infinity....seems weird they made this but they had to make something newer...I use the 14 mm in DBD and love my set up now
If it was the same price point just different flavors maybe it might make sense but I get it costs more to engineer. If I were to guess it would be different in the sense of going from the v7 to the flash. But oh well with all these new paddles out it’s easy to have fomo. When as a tennis player you find your racquet and you stick with it
I wonder how the Infiniti compares the new version of the DBD--which is softer than the original version. Confused: The set-up you have, has the Infiniti at 8.45 oz and it still doesn't have as good of a twist weight as the original DBD and the Infiniti is now a heavier paddle, which most likely slows the paddle down to the original DBD. So, it's hard to see the benefit of the Infiniti, unless you use it at stock weight for faster speed and accept the smaller sweet spot and inevitable twisting when blocking hard drives. I removed the rubber band at top of handle and added a small amount of weight to the bottom corners, now the paddle is at 8.25 and is awesome :)
Swingweight measures the distribution of the weight on a paddle. You can have two paddles that both have a static weight of 8oz but the one with more weight closer to the head (higher swingweight) will feel heavier when you play with it. And you can have a paddle that weighs 8.2 oz feel heavier than a paddle than one that weighs 8.5 oz depending on the swingweight. So yes, the Infinity has a higher static weight but it still moves easier than a stock DBD. Plus, the Infinity is edgeless so it cuts through the air better than a paddle with an edge guard too which also contributes to the paddle’s speed. But yeah, you’re right, if you want max speed then don’t add weight. That’s just how I liked it, lots of ways to do it.

@@pickleballeffect A tighter sweet spot is a deal breaker for me. Would the DBD 16mm be better for a larger sweet spot and control then?

My infinity and DBD are identical in size. How much shorter is it? You might email them about it and get it exchanged.
Are you using the standard or wide edge guard tape here?
Use the standard and when you apply it, make sure you stretch it a little when going around the corners so that it lays flat and looks nice

Neonic is longer, more stable, and has a little more pop and power. The Infinity is faster, more spin, and less forgiving.

The Luxx is more forgiving and offers more control but the Infinity is lighter, faster, and offers more power and spin.
