    The comments here are discouraging, at how much people are lacking an understanding of the difference between the movie and the actual story.
    The movie was made to incorporate the musical pieces as fantasy sequences, from Roxie's point of view. They aren't actually happening. The movie is a movie that happens to have musical sequences. What happens on Broadway is an actual musical. Big difference.

      @@aaronxalapa Yeah. Where is the set? I had no idea the stage production was so bare. The band is back there, but I liked the set up of the piano player and different stage pieces for the dancers to interact with.

    • @kschneider8649
      @kschneider8649 3 года назад +4

      The dancers don't even interact with each other either. This is like a covid era stage play. 😅 I know this is Fosse's choreo, and he's a legend for what he introduced at the time, but I much prefer the choreography from the movie where the dancers are interacting with each other and exuding sex.

      I just had a random thought about a movie from forever ago, and ran into this video. I was amazed that I heard her enunciate the "t" sound on that. I've been singing it wrong forever, hah. =) She is good, in other words.

    I love her version of Velma and I’ve watched the show 5,6 times. The theater in NYC is not big and very close to the stage so it feels different watching on RUclips. I’d love to go see the show again.. and again. The best musical show.

    Assholes.... This is Amra-Faye Wright! She's been doing this shit for over ten years! Give her a break! She's also the first Velma to do both the Japanese and English casts. She's a fantastic Velma, go and see her. The reason she pronounces words 'funny' is because she's South African; the gorgeous Ute Lemper pronounced things very similarly and no one has a problem with her as Velma. As for the "old lady" comment? The leads in Chicago are typically played by middle aged women. The originals were played by Gwen Verdon at age 50+ and Chita Rivera at age 42+. Young Velmas just don't do it for me. They lack the cynicism, refined sexuality, and rough, expressive voice a good Velma ought to have.

    I think the woman playing Velma is great, but why don't they dress her in 1920's garb, which would include stockings and garter belts, which would help the lyrics to make sense.

      +Octet Fan Chicago has a bigger emphasis on the show biz vibe of the time rather than the era it was in. I find it a great design choice

    • @lucasr621
      @lucasr621 7 лет назад +11

      This revival is from the nineties and it definitely reflects in the design choices. IMO, the sleek, neo-noir look is perfect to showcase the choreography; perhaps the most integral part of the show besides the story and music.

    Good grief there are so many ignorant people on here! Of course it's going to be different on movie set! A stage production doesn't have the flexibility of a movie set.
    It's rare that stage sets are constantly changed. Worse, the disrespectful comments about the lady playing Velma is really sad.

    • @josephosullivan9891
      @josephosullivan9891 5 лет назад +8

      The musical is iconic for its black sleek costumes with pops of occasional colour. The stage is black with a black band stand on stage and colour and small changes make a stark difference to the stage.
      As a dance piece it's one of the most iconic Bob Fosse musicals and showcases his masterful style more than any other show so its incredible to see that done by live dancers anyway. It's worth seeing live.
      Its an incredible piece of art as a musical and shouldn't be judged based on the movie it inspired more than 20 years after it opened on broadway.

    I went to see this and I must say it sucked! We left in intermission. If you're expecting a big spectacle that at least resembles the movie you are not gonna get it. No costume changes, same scenery. I was expecting for foxy heart performance to at least wearing something that resembles the movie but nope. Same costume all the way through.

    • @Tracymmo
      @Tracymmo 8 лет назад +19

      +joel Guzman Huh? The stage show is from the 1970s, and it's fantastic. The film was an adaptation of it, not the other way around. If you go see Broadway shows to see the same thing you saw in a movie you're always going to be disappointed. This show is famous for Bob Fosse's choreography above all else.

    • @andresflores523
      @andresflores523 8 лет назад +4

      I see where your opinion is coming from. When I first saw the show I was excepting an ending like the movie but then I realized that the movie is just an adaptation and Broadway will always be the original. I personally love the simplicity of the costumes and set because it can say a lot with very little things to use

    • @delirous8
      @delirous8 8 лет назад +2

      +joel Guzman there has been some compliants that Chicago has been watered down with more simplistic chereography cause they hire celebrities to be casted in their show to accomodate them.

      Ton Rodrigo that's the point of Chicago? Velma and Roxie are two women who can't rely on their youth for success in show business anymore and have to resort to a number of alternate tactics in order to stay relevant and break into/stay in vaudeville. It's a major plot point that neither of them are young anymore
