My only problem with LeetCode interviews is that my University never prepared me for LeetCode questions lol I had to learn it all my spare time. I wish there was a course they gave on this field specifically.

Didn't you have courses like Data structures and Algorithms? Every university here in Pakistan has them, and at my university, most universities put special emphasis on Comptetitve/Speed Programming which also helps. They don't specifically tell you to grind Leetcode, but they give us a strong base so I can't really complain like that xD But blame myself. Maybe its not like that at your university?

@@Fanoflix Yes we had those courses but not one course I took I could say prepared me for LeetCode style questions which is why I mentioned I had to learn it all myself by grinding questions.
School at best gave me the foundation of programming but as far as actually prepping you for the actual interviews. Definitely not. Dafuq am I paying these idiots thousands of dollars for?

@@Fanoflix It's their job to completely prepare me for getting employment yet not one person who comes up with the coursework said hey maybe we need to add a Leetcode style course so these kids are prepared when they get interviews.
The best way I can describe it is school taught me how to implement data structures and algorithms. Interviews don't ask if you know how to "implement", they ask you if you know how to "utilize" data structures and algorithms.

      @@TheCasanovaPugilist147 Thats true.
The biggest reason I can think of is that the professors themselves are so detached from the corporate world mostly that most dont care (teaching wise). And from a university's perspective, they just regard 'grinding leetcode' as something that a kid should pursue themselves depending on what company they are applying for.
But Leetcode style assessments are so common now that, I agree, we can use a course which specifically focuses on approaching speed programming questions.

Coding interviews are meant for competitive progranming. It is its own sport. Using it for interview is dumb.

I have my interview with google in two weeks, I was so worried about clearing it. For some reason, now I have a different way of thinking about the interview and feeling less worried than I was before, something from your words got clicked to me! Thanks for sharing!

I used to hate this kind of interview process but if one has to get a good job then you somehow must pass these kind of interviews so yeah, no matter what you do or think you will have to go through these kind of processes.

I rather them just give you a project to do where you make like a small application that does something. Seems more practical anyways but ig they want to know that u can understand complex stuff. But leetcode seems complex to the point of why...

@@pluto40433 Yes, thankfully some sensible companies acknowledge that the coding in the interview and coding on the job are very different so they give you that, and let you talk through it like a PR review. Instead of it feeling like someone is breathing down your neck while your opportunity of a lifetime is ticking away

A better strategy for interviewing is to take on more interviews and build projects. Eventually someone will notice and will want to take a chance on you. Leet coding all day is not productive. It’s important but not necessary.

Some coding problems could have more than one approach. In a technical interview it’s generally a good idea to present a brute force solution and work your way to an optimal solution. In this way you could see it as an “iterative process”

And that’s the aim of these interviews. People come from wide varieties of backgrounds. Some come from really good schools, some come from online boot camps or community colleges - how do you give a fair opportunity to all of them?
The answer is to level the field for everyone. This is the single best way I can think we can judge candidates. Everyone seems to not understand this point
