  • I found this cylinder "vase" at IKEA and I couldn't resist. I knew straight away I have to do something. I made tutorial video because lot of you guys requested.
    The 10W led light with wooden base is cheap from aliexpress. ( around £15 )
    I used black lava rocks and red moor roots for hardscape. Soil is tropical powder at the back and decor coral sands at the front. Mini water pump aliexpress/ebay £4-£6.

      Probably not enough soil forever but after 8 months the plant still fine and keeps bringing new leaves. 😊

    So cute! How often do you change out the water? And do you know of any aquatic animals you could add in that could reduce that need? I'm hoping to create a vivarium with animal life that's as close to self sustaining as possible! 😊

      Hi! I do water change once a week roughly. I have couple of small snails in it. Biological balance is fine due the small sponge filter at the back which I clean only once a month.

      @@pearlfectfishtanks Oh wow that's so cool! As for the snails - I thought about that but I'm worried they'd crawl out! 😅 Do you know if any algae-eating fishes or aquatic life that could work in the pond?
      Edit: I just found that shrimp will eat algae! Maybe I can get some lil shrimp in the pond :3

    Does that light actually keep all that alive and well. I've a little experience with desk units like that and they dont really seem to cut the mustard.

    How did you drill the lava rock to make it flow out of two sides?

      Hi! I drilled the first tunnel and than the second one from the other side which is ended in the first tunnel. ( like an “y” shape )

    Thank you so much for the video. May I know the capacity of the IKEA vase? and how long the water lasts in the vase in your ambient temperature and humidity before its gets evaporated; to say the half level mark?

      Hi! The vase volume is 3.8 litres. With the hard scape it is hold around 2.5 litres. Under a week it’s evaporating around 1-2cm. Thank you for watching!

I live in a very hot arid climate and want to assess the feasibility of such a desktop paludarium in my climate especially if it can continue without collapsing If I go for a 40 day vacation.

    I think this is a really cool setpiece but you're not gonna want to put fish in that. It doesn't seem like there's enough space for them, even most of the little ones 'cause they like to be in a moderately sized group.
