Larry Carlton is a true gentleman.
This is the kind of jazz that I grew to love and remember!
Larry Carlton, I used to read about you all the time in Guitar Player magazine all through the 1980s.
I feel so privileged to meet you through this interview! ❤️.¸¸.☆
We're so lucky that Larry is even alive. Hes not only a badass guitarist!
Joe is hitting it out of the park with his guests. A variety of genres, styles, generations and all interesting to listen to. Thanks for making Covid lockdowns bearable.
Larry is a wonderful player, an all-time great for sure. So classy and smooth. Every Christmas I have to listen to his album, it's like a warm blanket for the winter.
The guitar playing on The Royal Scam by Larry is stunning . Knowing how fussy the Dan were I imagine there’s a few outtakes kicking around . Thanks Joe for posting 👍
Thanks for that joe. Great interview. Larry is an incredible musician and I’m always taken by what a humble gentleman larry is.
Joe, you gotta do Buddy Guy, next buddy guy. Well he’s still alive and well lol 🥸
Finally something to look forward to. Two virtuosos, two of my favorites. Actually the only two live acts I’ve seen in the past 3 years. Really looking forward to this interview.
Larry, I purchased a Sire L7 Gold Top, and I love it. I can tell that a lot of care went into the design and construction. The satin neck, fretwork and pickups are stellar!
Great interview. I remember Larry & Tommy T at GIT lecturing in the early 80s. I think one of my favorite sessions ever was with Glen Campbell- who was killing it - on bagpipes. Amazing talent.
Lots of greatness !!! Thanks Joe!!!
Once again a terrific interview Joe. Many thanks to both. Russ
Larry Carlton is, plainly, a legend in his own time. I have enjoyed his music since the 70's with Steely Dan, and on and on. Luv ya, Larry. Thanks for the music, man.
awesome interview. Larry has seen it all and done it all. Jack of all trades. Has such a heart of gold.
Thanks Joe and Larry!
Fantastic episode, gentleman. Two of my favorite people talking shop. Well done!
Thanks Joe and Larry. I grew up listening to Larry and that man is the reason i play a 335 !
Really enjoyed this interview.
One of my favorite albums was Larry’s Smiles and Smiles to go. I used to drive long distances between San Luis Obispo area into LA listening to this album. I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times and this video reminded me of it. Thanks to Larry for his great music. I’m enjoying this video too.
This whole series is so great!
Fantastic! Thank you both!
I had front row seats in a small movie theater in Philly for a Marlboro Smoking sponsored tour and the lineup was amazing: Chet Atkins, Larry Carlton, Leo Kottke and Steve Wariner. The guys came out at 4pm and backed each other ip doing iconic parts they played, equipment used etc., it was spectacular. They took a break for dinner and Larry who was about 3’ away from me says, “You must be a guitarist.” I said yes, how did he know? Larry replied, “Every time I make a mistake you wince.” I told him about a great Greek greasy spoon around the corner and they came back and played another two hours. After the concert Larry walked over signed my program and thanked me for the Greek joint. What a cool, nice guy.
Great interview! Thx Joe!
Fantastic interview, thank you.
More please!
Enjoyed this interview like the others, thanks for taking the time and sharing guys. Respect and stay healthy all.
Great interview, It is great to hear the roots of great artists . I really enjoy how you bring there view to all the fans. Keep it going till we see them live!
Enjoy JOE❤️ with amazing Larry Carlton🌹 Stay safe be well my Love❤️
What a fantastic chat, i love Larry´s Music, and his humility even being so great as he always been. Great Joe conducting the chat. lov e u guys.
Great interview, Joe I love Larry’s style, thank you! 👍🏻🎸🍊
This will be special. Thanks Joe & Larry. Big Aussie fan.
Larry is ‘the reference’ for the genre of jazz/rock guitar playing and seems like a fantastic person as well.
Maestro
Man. We need live music now more than ever. Joe saw you at Va. Beach and Larry in Durham, Nc. Thanks for doing this ...
Phenomenal
Great interview Joe, enjoyed it very much! thanks
That was an absolute delight! That was the best Larry Carlton interview I have heard, period. Thank you Joe!
brilliant interview !!!!!
Thanks so much, Joe. Brought back a lot of memories as I first saw LC with the Crusaders (Wilton Felder, Joe Sample, Stix Hooper and Wayne Henderson) in 71' at the Kool Jazz Festival in KC. For that reason I can't see him other than the skinny, hippie white kid with shoulder length hair blowin' people away with his great rhythm and solo style.
I bought one of the Sire H7's last year and I am very pleased with it. I'm in the UK its almost 2am I waited up for this interview with Larry. Thanks Joe :D
THANKS Joe for spoiling us rotten. What a great treat! :-)
Fantastic stuff Joe.! Great chat with Larry Thank you muchlee :)
Really enjoyed - thanks
Joe - you're a great interviewer. You know your shit, ask great questions, and draw thoughtful intelligent responses from people. You create a good environment for discussions. The series of interviews you've done so far are really building into a body of work.
Great interview Joe.
Masters
Such a great interview, Larry is a legend and unknown to so many outside aside of the guitar community. His recordings and especially the collaboration with Lee Ritenour are in heavy rotation in my ipod. Keep up the great interviews Joe and inspiring music, would be great to hear you talk with Pat Metheny, Ritenour, Michael Schenker, Andy Summers to name a few! Peace.
I love all of these LIVE FROM NERDVILLE Episodes. One of the best shows on RUclips ! Always exciting to see who Joe will have on the show . Some of my suggestions for future interviews are : Yngwie Malmsteen - Mike Stern - Joe Satriani - Frank Gambale - Brett Garsed - Warren Demartini - George Lynch - Dann Huff ..... Thanks for the awesome Show JOE !!!! 🎸💯👍🏻
Thanks Joe for this interview with my hero Mr335 👏
I still am amazed at the Carlton/BB King Master Class on RUclips ..
Great interview! Listening to Larry's "Fingerprints" album changed my whole approach to guitar and opened the door to 2 other favorites of mine - Norman Brown and Lee Ritenour. Awesome interview Joe! Larry please keep the line going with SIRE, I am saving for the H7 currently but they seem to be sold out. :-)
Great interview with a monster player and chunk of history.
YES!!! Let's see, Joe, Larry, Rit and.... Luke! I would PAY! lol AWESOME interview !
Larry is the DUDE
Fabulous interview Joe 😊 Thanks Larry ❤
You are an awesome guy, Joe. Saw you at the Aladdin in Portland with Johnny A many yrs. ago.
My wish for interview suggestion is Don Barnes, and/or Danny Chauncey of 38 Special. I'm sure that they can fill an hour of great stories. Keep up the good work.
Awesome interview....loved the info. Learn some things on the 335 talk
Larry and Louie playing together now that was pure magic...you played even on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack..thanks Joe, good conversation.... .ps, Larry, that son of yours is holding the bass real good....stay safe...
Can you please interview Mick Taylor(John Mayall’s Blues Breakers, Rolling Stones). Favorite guitar player.
There's a Larry Carlton and Lee Ritenour concert from Japan I think on RUclips that's *fantastic*
"Wolf hunting, you say?" (image of Groundskeeper Willie wrestling wolves pops into and sticks in Joe's head for a bit :))
I wore out his first album and then Strikes Twice.
I waited for one of the signature guitars, when they finally came out, the Co in CA had them priced 100 bucks over the retail price. So i bought something else.
Any chance of talking with George Benson? :)
Hell yeah. Benson is otherworldly. On top of being a world class guitarist with a unique style the man can sing with the best of them.
Dash Crofts shoutout!
BB King through an Ampeg VT22 ! I'd have loved to be in thes same room, the heaviest (40Kg) amp I ever owned, what a tone, but you need a good amp tech to keep them going
I've had 2 VT-22s and 2 V4s. You aren't wrong about the weight, tone, or need for upkeep. I put 2 Celestion G12-100Ks in one and it was even heavier.
Probably the best clean amp I've ever played, and if you somehow can turn it up all the way they distort so well.
They're also the best fuzz platform I've ever come across, ever.
Hello! Can you added subtitles, please!
Has anyone heard how Joe is doing in terms of his health? I know he had a tumor, or something, he mentioned a while back, and I hadn't heard anything. He seems fine now, I was just curious if he mentioned it and was doing okay - hate for anything to happen to this national treasure!
I guess Larry Carlton is the reason why the guitar was invented.
Larry endorsing Indonesian guitars and Joe endorsing Chinese guitars. Why ? Watch Netflix documentary 'American Factory' for answers to question, why people have difficulties to reason, why they should pay a couple extra thousands for similar quality Gibson. However, another great interview by Joe.
Larry just woke up...
I'll avoid being another guy raving about Charlamagne and Take Me Alive, and just send my love and affection to the maestro. ~ But, Joey....GUISSEPPE!, ...bored??? making the hand sign for the remote? ...IN PARIS??!?!?!...Mi Fratello....yer KILLIN me babba...what's next? Bored in Milan? Bored in Barcelona?...Aww pobresito...🙈🙉🧐😅🤔😎🤣🙄😂...I wouldn't a' pegged you a spoiled rock star Joey...tisk tisk..😌😒😂🙄🤣😎
Joe I love you, but you gotta lose the early 60's school teacher glasses lol
