Paul Schaffer has such a unique place in, not only music history, but television history -- and pop culture.
You do a great job with these interviews. I always say, 'I'll just watch it for a few minutes". Then I end up watching the whole thing!
same here.

As a Toronto native and lover of New York, I love hearing about the history about the adfinity and connecrion between these two cities and the generation of culture. So great! North American culture rocks.
I KNEW Paul was going to say James Brown when Joe asked about the most memorable performers on Letterman. That's was JB's most epic tv appearance of 'em all!
What a treasure of the music world. Thank you, Joe for bringing me information about Paul's huge role in music over the last several decades!
Great choice, such an accomplished musician!

Thanks for this Joe. Loved Paul for decades.
My friend Ron Thompson may he rest in peace, was John Lee Hooker music supervisor and best man at his wedding
I remember watching Paul Shaffer on video emceeing an encore jam on the 2019 KTBA Cruise,
Calling Joe, “Joe *_Bonamasso_* ”, in a whimsical bit of humor,
And, yes…masterfully playing the keys in other jams! Gosh, time to watch those videos again…..
Nobody enjoyed that cruise more than Paul Shaffer, I’m sure! Not even Joe BonamassO! ❤️.¸¸.☆
I use to watch letterman every night . Paul was always so cool. Well he still is. Thanks Joe for the show, it really helps take the bite out of not being able to socialize..
Those shows were so great, Paul was perfect... Letterman I still miss too.
I love Paul Shaffer and one of my favorites is when he did the Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert impression on Saturday Night Live!
Paul Shaffer seems like such a nice guy- would be awesome to play in a band with someone like him as MD.
Joe is right. make no mistakes Paul is a heavy cat. huge huge talent. when youve had 11 beers paul could carry you through the gig and the crowd would think you were the best musician in the world
Absolutely awesome. This made my day.

We NEED to see you Paul and Antoine on Stage in SC.
Never missed your show when you played in Buffalo NY.
I really enjoyed this because Paul was just 'himself', not the 'character' he portrayed on Letterman. Another gem from Joe.
Awesome Paul Shaffer with you JOE❤️ Amazing interview come again my love😘😍👍

That was a great history lesson! Enjoyed that...
The Bob Mould hit towards the end of Letterman was amazing. Played two songs, loud enough to shake the joint and get old confetti to fall, and killed it.
I love these interviews because there is so much information discussed here about the craftsmanship of being a musician. So good!!!
Thanx Joe (and Paul) ...that was really the stuff
Paul was brilliant in Spinal Tap. Paul has comic as well as musical timing.
Fantastic interview with a guy who has pretty much seen it all and done it all. He has so much enthusiasm for what he does and is a great band leader. Thanks so much for this Joe and God bless you and Paul and here’s hoping you both get on the road soon.
That Trogg's sketch was floggin' great!
Bonamassa is spot on regarding the integrity of a truly LIVE performance, as opposed to relying on tracks. Audiences deserve more than to see artists perform to their own records. Hell, 75% of the performers at any given festival has a laptop for a backing band.
Terrific!
OMG JOE❤️ How amazing stories you have with Paul🌹
Wonderful interview again😍 Thank you so much JOE❤️ Stay safe stay healthy and be well my love😘😍👍
Great guest! Great interview! Really was hoping for that virtual jam session at the end. One of the best episodes yet.
I’m 55 years old so I basically grew up with Paul. I was 10 when my sister turned me on to Saturday night live in 1975 so even going back to the reruns I’m like oh look there’s Paul. Of course spinal tap of course David Letterman and of course the worlds most dangerous band. Outstanding you guys could’ve gone for four hoursAnd I’d still be listening
Joe is one of the wonderfull musician in the world!

Paul looks great.
This gets a thumbs-UP just for mentioning "Champagne & Reefer" by Muddy Waters!
Great interview! Would've loved to hear his take on Zevon's last performance on the show.

wish that went on forever. so good
...i wish Joe had of asked Paul the inspiration for his theme song of the Letterman show....it cleverly gave the musicians a spring board to improvise from after the announcer would say " David Letterman" and during the crowd applause , sometimes the hair would stand up on the back of my neck...
Many thanks again Joe.
Fantastic and nice change of pace, Joe. Have a good weekend.
Enjoyed the Paul S interview as I play both keys and guitar. Thanks
Gentlemen, thank you. I enjoy hearing these great stories! Mr. Schaffer, did you meet Aretha? Dionne Warwick? You folks are all blessings! Grateful, I am to observe. Be safe, well & happy, Sirs!
I'm pretty sure he's played with Aretha at the RRHOF and on Letterman.
❤❤❤❤
Nice interview with paul
I've listened to a few shaffer interviews - this was a very good one IMO - Thanks!!
HIram Bullock (may he RIP) - the original guitarist with the original Letterman band was an amazing player - covering all styles blues, rock, jazz, funk - he played his ass off, always... .
"Beaker Street", Little Rock, Arkansas, radio show, was on AM, I remember it.
Awesoooome !!!!
I missed this show as it streamed live but so glad I watched soon after. I Enjoy longer forays in interviewing of interesting musicians such as Paul S by accomplished Joe B, they're great and I love hearing some of what occurred "back in the day" as tech advanced. If not for them where would we be? Helluva ride Paul, is right! But it isn't over yet :) Love ya guys.

Protect this man at all costs
Paul has seen it all
Great interview Joe!!!
Great interview with two incredible musical talents! Each of you asked the other perfect questions. Playing a Skype or zoom concert would be interesting. Joe I’d like to hear you interview Jason Ricci on one of these. He’s as much an harmonica nerd as you are a guitar nerd, yet you are two very different people. Also would like to learn more about Sonny Landreth. I bet you could draw out of him what listeners who enjoy his playing might not otherwise ever learn. I hope you enjoy doing these enough to continue for a long time. This is better than anything on television. I crave this kind of content from people of your level of skill, knowledge and talent. Thank you!
43:47 ... "Sea Of Love"
Fun Fact: Paul Shaffer wrote Homer Simpson's favorite song It's Raining Men.
Yo Paulie 👋🏻
💯👍
hope he gets your last name right this time😉

James Brown....cred🙏
...having to make your own lines up is a real good reason to say f#!#
...a Canadian in New York
It’s okay, he’s a celebrity. 😁

Authorities
Paul doesn't sight read, I wouldn't have guessed....
Enjoyable interview. Couple of things though. Paul was hardly the first MD on a talk show to banter with the host. Skitch Henderson and Doc Sevrinson are just two that come to mind. Also Joe, swilling from your plastic Coke bottle is just tacky. Drink from a glass, show some class.
Great interview Joe!
