I don't think Jake understands how much guitar players respect his work. He is revered as much as any player/writer of his era. The Ozzy stuff is what he will be remembered for (and should be). For me his work with Badlands was even better. Badlands, what a band!
Well said. The Voodoo Highway album to me is Jake's pinnacle. It was the perfect blend of raw emotional playing but still had some flash. It's a shame those Badlands albums are out of print. But, I know the story behind that....
Nate Bauer If those albums are out of print due to Ray’s alleged behavior after knowing he had contracted the disease, it doesn’t make a ton of sense. Motley Crue’s albums didn’t go out of print because of Vince’s behavior, or Queen’s catalog because of Freddie. I don’t see how the label would be legally responsible for Ray’s actions. If there were going to be lawsuits over any money resulting from a lawsuit, I would imagine it would have to be with whoever Ray’s publishing and royalties would go to. There have been way too many musicians who have had legal/moral indiscretions and their catalogs remain available. Maybe the ratio of headache vs sales from reissue just aren’t worth it though. Has Jake ever commented on it? That would have been a great question to ask. He is brutally honest about that sort of thing.
I was probably 15 years old, a sophomore in high school when Bark at the moon came out. I was still CRUSHED over the tragic loss of Randy Rhoads. As it turned out, I loved that album, and it was all the more special because I really didn’t think I was going to like an Ozzy album without Randy. Bark at the moon, Rock and Roll Rebel, Journey to the Center of Eternity and You’re No Different from Me, those were my favorite songs from that album. I saw the tour at the Rosemont Horizon near Chicago with Motley Crue opening. Aside from the superb playing, he was a spectacular performer. He was a whirlwind, never sitting still during the show. He was a visually exciting guitarist to watch. I was sad when he left the band a few years later.

Would be great to have Jake back for another Tone-Talk. Personally, I'm interested to hear about his time working with Ann Lewis in the late 80's. How much of the writing did he do? It sounds like he wrote most of her songs on those albums. And I'm very curious to know whether any of his work with Lewis used ideas that came from unreleased/unrealized songs he'd originally written for Ozzy. A couple of those tunes off _Rockadelic_ sound like they could've been on _BATM_ or _Ultimate Sin_ (or at least a lot of the riffs, if not entire songs). Did Jake have any tunes that were rejected by Ozzy and were subsequently recycled after he left Ozzy?
Love the stuff he did with Ann Lewis! Jake mentioned that the song Hard Driver from Badlands was once presented to Ozzy, not much else though, according to him. Ozzy didn't like that stuff much apparently.
This was just incredible. Shows like this are the reason why TV is losing big time and will die. How could any TV show compete with this unscripted, unedited, no strings attached thing? Rhetorical question, obviously. Bring back Jake E Lee, guys!
I love Jake! He totally changed how I heard guitar on that first Badlands album. In the age of over processed guitar tones Jake showed us why a guitar in to a cranked amp will always sound better!
I love Jake..such a down to earth guy...I do wish though, that he would get musicians around him that weren't the stereo-typical, washed up, 40 something, wanna-be rock stars and find some guys who are great players but have integrity and play for the music. Jake is just the best. Top three guitar performances I’ve seen has Jake with Badlands going off with endless solos where you just look around and say,”am I really seeing this?” Jake is a huge force, but also, from Every interview I’ve seen, the nicest guy.
Jake’s dedication, attitude and philosophy to playing music is truly inspirational. An uncompromising badass who always puts his full feeling into his playing and pushing his own boundaries. The final song on the 1st guitar hero game was Bark At The Moon and me my friends would get so hyped to see who could play it best! And I appreciate the fact that he isn’t quite as popular or famous as some other equally talented guitar heroes because none of his stuff has been over played or over impersonated and that’s awesome. There are thousands who try to copy Eddie, Zakk, Slash, Vai etc... but Jake’s style still feels fresh to my ears and as a younger aspiring guitarist myself, I have found his style is a relatively untapped resource for creative inspiration! Keep on shredding Jake!!! Badlands fucking RULE!!!

I seen Jake E Lee at the War memorial in Johnstown, PA. With the Ozzy band. And Metallica. Cliff Burton was still alive. . Jake handed me one of those black rubber wrist bands they wore. . Hand to hand. My favorite item I ever received while someone was on stage was from, Ian Hills of Judas Priest, autographed bass pick. . Thanks for the interview.
Awesome interview with great and never heard insights! Jake rules!! Just a great guy and a one of a million guitar wiz!!! Dave‘s also fun (and builds great amps!!!). And even drunk he asks the right questions...
I love your honesty Jake. The truth may hurt but you earned your point of view, please don't apologize. We have all the respect in the world for you. You certainly do "Adhere to your strandards" lol I'm gonna use that one. You're one of my all time favorites. Thank you for all your work and for keeping it real.
This was extremely entertaining. Jake doesn’t give a shit and will say anything.....so raw and real. I sure hope he’s on again soon....to take some “difficult” questions.... 👊🏻
Thanks Jake! As a HUGE rock, blues and metal fan, the Badlands debut remains one of my favorite listens from start to finish. You're the real deal, man.✌️
One thing that is not mentioned a lot is: Jake is an unbelievable producer and writer. I learned more from Jake about producing and Guitar than I did in my entire life. What you hear on the records is just scratching the surface. He is a modern day Hendrix and beyond. He can do it analogue or in the box.

Great interviewer, he doesn’t speak over the artist. I can’t stand watching a video where the interviewer interrupts the interviewee & it happens all the time! You Rock 🤘Jake!
The way Dave looks at Jake destiles all the respect and admiration he has for the legend guitarist. You cannot see that look and think another thing. Jake is one of Dave top guitar idols, I dont know if number one but he is enjoying every second of the interview.

I met Jake back in 1992 with Badlands at a show in Bristol U.K ,thought he was a lovely guy such an influence on me as a teenager.. Still have his pick.
I have to say that I became an extreme Ozzy / Randy Rhoads fan from the first time I heard Crazy Train at my local roller rink soon after it's release and became more and more absorbed following my purchases of Blizzard and Diary. My fandom increased right up until Randy's death and then briefly felt crushed with disappointment and was certain that Ozzy was done from that moment on. My mind was soon changed following the surprise release of Speak Of The Devil with the exciting guitar work of Brad Gillis. After finding out that the next studio album would have yet another new guitarist playing on it, who I saw for the first times in various advance promo pictorials paired up with Ozzy in several themed shoots during the lead up time that precluded the release of Bark At The Moon. After what seemed like a small eternity awaiting the albums release I finally got to hear the title track and was floored and became an instant fan of Jake. I continued to listen with great interest to Jakes performances during his time with Ozzy and was sad to see him go. Following that I was an instant fan of Badlands and so wished that the band got to enjoy more success and a longer life. I still think Jake is great and is alive and well. i really hope to hear some new material from this great talent.
I could listen to Jake talk all day. What a guy. He's such an underrated and under appreciated guitar player who doesn't get anywhere near as much attention as he deserves. A fascinating character. Dave, on the other hand, became close to insufferable way before the halfway point and became increasingly more so. Jesus, there's a great example right there of someone who should just stick to lemonade. Cheers all the same.
At 1:54:22 Jake is so right, Crazy Train IS in A major basically, since F# minor is the relative minor same notes, different tonality! Haha He definitely knew what he was doing. This episode is the best btw and Jake was an early influence with me watching his crazy stare and kicking ass on the "Shot in the Dark" video. His playing is highly underrated imo and deserves to be able to tour and write whenever. \m/
Jake is a guitar god regardless if he cares or not if we like his songs or not, we are nobody to judge him because he went through a lot of shit to be were he's at at this point of his life, we olds school rockers should be greatful he still around with us playing and alive and well. I just subscribed to your channel and loved it bro.
Jake you are honestly in my top 3 of my all time favorite guitar player's, actually you are and always have been my favorite of all time, your style and the effortless that you have when playing is just remarkable!!
JAKE !!! Thanks so much for this, you are the most interesting musician to hear from, we love you brother!! The show in Houston was AWESOME. Just keep doing Red Dragon Cartel & Badlands, especially some Dusk songs next time.
Bark At The Moon is the first Ozzy album I got at nine years old and it is still my favorite Ozzy album. Jake has every right to play anything off Bark At The Moon album and The Ultimate Sin. He wrote alot of the music.
@@NotYourTypicalNegro I agree!! Jake E Lee in my opinion is Ozzy's best guitar player ever. Ozzy and Sharon were and are insane for getting rid of him just to get Zack Wylde eventually. Bark At The Moon is my all time favorite Ozzy album and one of my favorite albums ever. It still has the same magic for me that it had the first time I listened to it over thirty years ago.
Finally seeing this. The legend lives up to it. Jake E. Lee should come back on the show again soon for a bottle. It if clipped at the 2hr mark, it would've already been a full meal. The rails seemed to totally come off as the bottle was polished
you guys have been killing it on these interviews...really fascinating...and I agree...can we get Jake back on just to hear a little Holy Diver! hahaha
this was an awesome interview, I loved it. thanks for doing this. If you do an interview with Jake again, I hope to not miss it and be able to watch it live in real time!
Wow what a great show. A wealth of technical knowledge. You can’t “read up” or just watch videos to gain the level of experience both these guys have in music electronics and technology. Some very very smart guys here. And Mr Lee is such a great guitar player too. He’s a lot like Eddie Van Halen was, in terms of his knowledge and interest in the technical side of what he does.
Jake is definitely a top five guitarist of all time! And after watching this video, he’s a top of any list as far as being a good person and not an egomaniac! When I watch this video it feels like I’m watching my neighbor down the street get interviewed, Jake is so down to earth it’s awesome! Fan for life🎸🎸
at 47:00 Dave says "There's alot of interest, alot of Love". I could be wrong but I think thats because the way Jake has handled ,what,40 years of being dealt with unfairly...and he is so such a REAL person. He is just straight up honest. People FEEL that. It was in the music he made with Oz and its in Red Dragon Cartel NOW. He aint fakin. It's not about the money. That's why.
Love Jake's work.Lucky to have met him twice... He's very, very honest here, perhaps too honest,hey-ho I hope without being too melodramatic his health's good,& that he's going to keep playing, outside of the states & Japan. Badlands Rule!!

Jake, we still care about what you do. I came into your music at the end of 83, beginning of 84, with Bark at the moon. And you are still on my top five list of best guitarist ever. I just love to listen to you play, it resonates with me deeply.

Keep on shredding Jake!!! Badlands fucking RULE!!!
Priceless interview. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
Jake was my favorite ozzy player as well. He’s such a legend, and just the most original
how is he more original than Rhoads? Jake is a great player though
Jake is the best guitarist I've ever seen, one of the best ever
Wow great interview sir!
Man, I wanna party with Jake lol. He comes off as a cool dude, Great show fellas 👍🏻
i know him good bake in the day's my friend Robert use to live next door i use to drive by his house to pick up my friend he lived in Marina del rey near the bowling ally i drove a 1970 Pontiac gto he use to look at my car all the time blasting Malmsteen one day he got in front of my car and asked me if i wanted to race lol he had a 1969 road runner and a 1970 442 olds and a vette ant shore what year it was but i play guitar as well and so i asked him if he reads music and i was in shock he said not at all he plays by ear wow that's crazy very true story
Jake is so damn original he is in a league of his own. Love his sense of melody.
“Drinks with Jake!” There’s the show’s Title! Awesome!!!😊
Jake should start his own monthly vlog.🍹🥃*Drinks @ Jake's Bar*🍻
Awesome interview with great and never heard insights! Jake rules!! Just a great guy and a one of a million guitar wiz!!!
Dave‘s also fun (and builds great amps!!!). And even drunk he asks the right questions...
I love your honesty Jake. The truth may hurt but you earned your point of view, please don't apologize. We have all the respect in the world for you. You certainly do "Adhere to your strandards" lol I'm gonna use that one. You're one of my all time favorites. Thank you for all your work and for keeping it real.
I swear to frickin god, Jake needs his own talk show. I would looooove to hear him converse with musicians!!!
With Dave!
This was extremely entertaining. Jake doesn’t give a shit and will say anything.....so raw and real. I sure hope he’s on again soon....to take some “difficult” questions....
👊🏻
Love Jake's playing and his F you Attitude!! Rock On Jake!
Thanks Jake! As a HUGE rock, blues and metal fan, the Badlands debut remains one of my favorite listens from start to finish. You're the real deal, man.✌️
This is nice!..where at Hovet/Stockholm Ozzy..opening for Whitesnake...with Jake..did not know the Sykes/Mel story..
The Badlands debut sounds fantastic to this day. It isn't dated to the 80s at all, sounds crisp and full. Jake's producing skills are top shelf.
Hey are you the guitarist for shark island and house of lords
Jake's stuff is timeless -

Brilliant! My first ever concert I was 16 was Bristol the bark at the moon tour 83. Your a true musician dude!
Badlands is one of his best band/ projects he's done imo. Voodoo Highway record especially.
EPIC show with Jake! Love the unbridled talk! I can only describe it as a runaway train which could come off the tracks any minute! You guys rock! Even pulled out the Badlands Voodoo Highway CD and popped into the car the next morning! \w/

My favorite Ozzy guitarist of all time Love you Jake!
1:06:15 - I just love Jake's personal take on Crazy Train during the intro solo at "Ultimate Ozzy" VHS/Laserdisc.
To me its a pure statement on how Jake was able to confidently express himself and help casting off (to a certain extent) the ghastly shadow of Randy Rhoads precocious death
This was a really good video to watch! Jake's funny but honestly brutal! He was "THE" rockstar of the 80's and still is today.
Dave really dgf with his phone constantly going off and having conversations during this lol 😅
Great episode. Love Jake! Have him on EVERY week!!
Right. Ozzy imitation from a previous interview is priceless 😂
So who else is dying to hear Jake play /Holy Diver/?
Not sure if there are any bootlegs of Jake with Dio. I've never seen any. That would be pretty damn cool!
This is pure gold, so cool to see these guys just hanging out drinking whiskey and talk nerdy guitar stuff.
Most epic episode of tone talk ever! Just amazing!hahahaha thanks Jake ! And of course Mark and Dave!!!
Just rewatched this one the other night and this is a classic episode. It would be cool to see Jake back on the show like a part 2 lol.
Jake rules. This was a great show. Total riot. Enjoy your hangover gents you earned it.
Great to hear from him!! Glad he got the ice cream!! Lol!! Down to earth guy ! Can't wait for him to come back to newbedford mass?? Badass!!
A great interview from one of the players that truly combines rhythm and lead and recognises the whole band effort
What ever Jake is doing,he always looks so happy, great player and a down to earth guy.
JAKE !!! Thanks so much for this, you are the most interesting musician to hear from, we love you brother!! The show in Houston was AWESOME. Just keep doing Red Dragon Cartel & Badlands, especially some Dusk songs next time.
Are you kidding me. After Randy Rhoads who can step in his shoes. Jake did amazing job with Bark. Com on that Album was amazing.
I agree with you 1000%
Bark At The Moon is the first Ozzy album I got at nine years old and it is still my favorite Ozzy album. Jake has every right to play anything off Bark At The Moon album and The Ultimate Sin. He wrote alot of the music.
Jake was a better player then Randy Rhoads. Nobody wants to say it. But it's true.
@@NotYourTypicalNegro totally agree his playing is far better and his tone is fantastic has Randy was awful
Jake is the man! Thanks for the music.
This is such a great interview, wish he had a guitar with him.
Finally seeing this. The legend lives up to it. Jake E. Lee should come back on the show again soon for a bottle. It if clipped at the 2hr mark, it would've already been a full meal. The rails seemed to totally come off as the bottle was polished
Recent music by Jake is killer.
People talk about Oz and Badlands work, but RDC is so good! Make sure to play those records loud!
This maybe the greatest interview ever ....Jake E Lee is a guitar god of epic proportions !!!!
great attitude Jake you are a badass guitarist
Best show ever, guys thanks so much and love you guys... And JAKE too!
You'll never know why... WE ROCK!
Jake is one of the best ever. Such a great player and he doesnt realize how important and amazing he is.
you guys have been killing it on these interviews...really fascinating...and I agree...can we get Jake back on just to hear a little Holy Diver! hahaha
YES......YES....YYYYYYYESSSSDSS
All people naming George and Warren, they forget about John sykes, who is the Best guitar player of that era by a long shot.
Nah
Not to mention, Bruce Kulick, Lita Ford nor Oz Fox.😊
this was an awesome interview, I loved it. thanks for doing this.
Fan for life🎸🎸
top 5...hmm hhmmm he's definitely a great player and writer. Of course his best work was with Bob Daisley, sound familiar.
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Yeah every band needs a bass player
@@philstamper4542 there are bass players and then there's Bob Daisley
at 47:00 Dave says "There's alot of interest, alot of Love". That's why.
Jake and Dave is the buddy /bromance movie/reality show we never knew we needed and now know we need to save humanity!!😆☺️💛
Yeah man Jake is awesome! Always loved his playing/songwriting, everything!!! Saw Badlands and Jake solo with Mandi Lion. Just killer concerts!
Jake is a great musician and human being.
Love Jake's work.Lucky to have met him twice...
He's very,very honest here,perhaps too honest,hey-ho
I hope without being too melodramatic his health's good,& that he's going to keep playing, outside of the states & Japan.
Badlands Rule!!
Jake, you have have been on my short list of most amazing guitar players of all time but after listening to your interview just now I moved you into #1 spot. You are funny, down to earth, interesting, intelligent and extremely Humble. 😊
I get reminded of this chat annually😂. It’s one of my favorites ever!
I’ve played blues and country for over 30 years. When I want to listen to hard rock Jake’s music is at the top of the list. Great guy. Great player. Wish him nothing but the best.
Jake has always been my favorite, too. Since like 1987.
Thank you for this, Tone Talk. This video makes me want to have drinks with Jake. He seems like such a fun personality.
Jake, we still care about what you do. I came into your music at the end of 83, beginning of 84, with Bark at the moon. And you are still on my top five list of best guitarist ever. I just love to listen to you play, it resonates with me deeply.
Was gonna try and go out on this rainy night but once I saw this on my notifications, I'm staying in to watch it. Cheers!
I am looking in my crystal ball. I see two advil and black coffee. :)
Great show guys. I had fun watching.
2 how about 4 man
@@FriedmanAmplification You should be feeling better today.
@1:51:14 Raw Power is the third studio album by American rock band the Stooges (credited as Iggy and the Stooges), released on February 7, 1973 by Columbia Records. The album departed from the "groove-ridden, feel-based songs" of the band's first two records in favor of more anthemic hard rock, while featuring guitar and songwriting contributions by James Williamson.” You’re right, There you go Jake E Lee :)
Met Jake when Badlands played the Troubadour in Los Angeles in 1992. Very cool and humble human being.
