It's like ladybird books copying and pasting fanfiction; time has not been kind. That or the people working there now were too lazy to do their jobs! Many would wish for a paid job in england today and these people are being paid to copy and paste!

i have a book by the same publisher thats we love Mario, i read it and its using no one's else work. it uses its own screen shots and there is only peach's diary, wario's quiz and toadette's personality quiz that is made by them but the whole book is using official sources. its a great book really. but we love sonic is no where close to good.

Also no, they wouldn't audition for writers to contribute and they almost certainly didn't "pay someone a ridiculous amount of money" to write the book. This kind of thing is a low budget, in-house job. Which is why they didn't have the requisite knowledge themselves and resorted to copying and pasting from Sonic Retro. Very little investment, tons of return from -suckers- young Sonic fans. Other than that, good vid!

Fan work isn't protected by laws if it involves copyrighted content, you can use official artworks if it's in the right context while publishing a magazine and screenshots are just that, screenshots, you can't really do anything about that... a Peruvian magazine "stole" a recording of me playing as Tiencha in Budokai 2, it's not like I can do something about that (not that I would do that, seriously who cares lol, there's my watermark on it and I'm fine with that) I remember the Italian Official PlayStation Magazine in the '90 used to insert censored hentai images to say "LOL WTF LOOK HOW CRAZY FANS ON THE INTERNET ARE", and they weren't doing nothing illegal at all actually, morally wrong but not illegal at all.

Many bootleggers have the tendency to look for the best fan art they can find and use it as part of the box art.
