Abraham Piper reminds me of a snarky first year college student that continued to wear the ironic hats for far too long.
I get it. I get it now why Doug Wilson is going after John Piper's son................ He is doing something that John Piper is "unable" to do because of being Abraham's father.... whereas Pastor Wilson, being an "outsider" can come at John Piper's son powerfully and objectively and destroy his position/arguments, etc............ Doug Wilson is doing this out of love for his friend John Piper and his son Abraham.
Please continue to pray for Abraham and his family. Good for Doug challenging Abraham to defend his beliefs. Hopefully once day Lord willing this will lead to a face to face conversation between the two.

Absolutely bizarre to see this person conflating joy and eagerness and curiosity and good emotions with not being serious. Watch a child playing with his blocks sometime and you'll see that he is very serious. "Serious" doesn't mean "miserable" or even "calm".

Even more bizarre is seeing Christians conflate love and sadistic malice.
Why is it a common theme that these people that turn away from their faith 1) Use bad arguments that they should know the answers to and 2) Go down this weird path of pseudo intelligence. I keep seeing these people say so much yet when you finally catch up to their ramblings and give it any critical thought, you realize they have said nothing at all.
Because it’s not true and whatever’s not true ends up being a bad argument. They take whatever’s available to them.

Before jesus saved me 3 years ago, I was filled with the same spirit which is filling abe piper. But I could not accept the "playful" cover-up which is rampant in those thought circles. Funny that the whole time, something in the back of my mind knew to fear God and not baspheme but I did it anyway. It was only when God moved to draw me near that I could accept Jesus and know the truth
I had a fraction of a moment, when I heard Abraham Piper ask, "Is it serious?" where the thought came to mind that Abraham Piper might make a decent Heath Ledger replacement as the joker. I know I ought to take this more serious. But still.

“Ugh, why do I exist” IS ABRAHAM’S HEART CRY!
The reason he brought this video into existence about his reason for existence, along with his shaking hands while filming showing not only he knows he is blaspheming God Almighty, but rather a deeply painful hurting heart with a large cry, Why do I Exist. All Abraham’s videos is showing his heart cry. Abraham’s Heart is Weeping.
My prayer is that The Lord bring someone to Abraham and show the Love of Jesus that will spear that broken weeping heart.
I pray the Lords will through this and if Abraham is The Lords elect, Let Abraham run back to Lord Jesus with the healing needed from The Lord, in Jesus name.
I absolutely love this series. I was already doing it on my own personal Facebook posts (to a much less capable degree), and then I saw something similar from Rachel Jankov....ich? (Spelling?) And now Doug himself. I think it's very, very useful to make a direct analysis/teardown of what's coming out of the culture around us.

The ends of his rudderless "belief system" are indeed tragic. History is full of the consequences that result from man's arrogance in thinking we can fashion our own god. Pray God he repents and humbles himself before Christ.
One of the reasons people can take everything “not serious” or are unable to pose the hard questions of philosophy is because they live in a society, formed by serious christians, that does not require them to make hard choices/decisions. It gets very serious when you’re looking for your next meal or are on your deathbed.
It's easy to blaspheme God here and now. Before the judgement throne...no.

God's Love/Justice, Heaven or Hell, and the Wages of Sin (Death and suffering) are serious. Sin is so serious that the Logos became human and suffered unfathomable torment to save us from it. The Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is a seriously amazing existential game changer. Real hope in this dark world is a serious need. Etc etc.
Should we take him seriously? What is the point of even caring about what he says if nothing is serious?

It occurs to me that to the one who loves Christ and knows He has conquered our sin, death, the devil, and the world, thoughts of the existential variety are really not daunting. To contemplate our existence in light of God's glorious existence and grace unto us, is both a joyful and serious thing. If the Lord's saving actions toward us were only a joke, we would have no joy, but because He was serious in His love for us, we seriously rejoice - we really can laugh at the days to come. But Abraham proves his heart is full of misery, or he would not be trying to manufacture a feeling of happiness and lightness of spirit. He admits these questions daunt him and are grave, because to him, they are and should be.
I think he knows how serious it is.

You know John Piper personally, it is very bad taste to post a video about the son of your brother in Christ and to be sarcastic and humourous with the sufferings of a brother in Christ. I bet John Piper prays daily for the salvation of his son and to see how other Christian he ministered with are now shaming and using his son for views must be very sad.

The mystery of how God's sovereign will interacts with human free will is difficult to answer and where the Calvinists may have erred in emphasizing God's sovereignty I have yet to meet the mythical hyper-Calvinist who believes in a strictly deterministic universe except as a strawman used to dismiss the entire camp.

What in the world did the Old Testament mean when it says "God hardened Pharaoh's heart", or "Jacob I have loved, Esau I have hated" (and that one probably isn't even about salvation), or "I will have mercy on who I will have mercy"? What in the world did the New Testament mean when it says "you (the Father) knew them from the beginning" and "no one can snatch them out of the Father's hand" and "those He foreknew, he predestined"?
I don't think it's either/or (God's glory vs. human responsibility), it's both/and. "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you" and all that.

When people read the verse, If you raise a child up in what is right, when they are grown they will not fall from it, they naturally only hear the positive promise. God will keep your children intact. They don't hear the condemnation and warning, that if your child has fallen from what is right, by definition they were not raised in it properly.
John Piper's station is highly questionable.
Great video. Although I think the hand shaking point was a bad point IMO. His hand could have been shaking for various reasons. although if it was shaking for the reason your proposed it could mean there is still some conviction deep down inside him, lets continue to pray for him and his family.
He is going to suffer greater than sodom because all of the light he has been exposed to and leading others on that path, lest he repent. But Hebrews tells us it is impossible for him Who was once enlightened . Terrified thinking about it...

If the one satisfactory reply is a chapter and verse it takes nothing at all to “refute” anything anyone who is not a believer says. Christians claim Abraham Piper mocks Christianity. Well, Doug Wilson and anyone who bases every “argument” on a sacred text mock critical thinking, philosophy, and the skill of formal argument. Stop pretending that Pastor Wilson is refuting anything. He’s not arguing, he’s adverting his beliefs.

His responses are all about showing that Piper is a poseur, advertising himself as a newly enlightened secularist while having no substantial metaphysic on which to stand, and whose beliefs, though couched in the language of freedom, are in fact nihilistic, leading to radical skepticism and absurdism.
Anyway, I don't know why I bother answering atheists who skulk about on the internet. None of you have actually studied academic philosophy or any subject related to it; you place yourselves on the basis of your a priori beliefs above everyone who disagrees with you, even if they're way more qualified and intelligent than you are. "Muh critical thinking", "muh formal arguments" -- lmao, dude, get back to me when you've read and understood some analytic philosophy of language, or finish a math class above linear algebra.

Doug Wilson does not refute or argue points, he bloviates. His certainty is grounded wholly in his belief that the Bible is a the divinely inspired, inerrant word, of a supreme being. If he brought that BS to a philosophy class (an undergrad, junior college level philosophy class) he’d be laughed out of the room.

But as my initial comment stated, you don't have to do much to RESPOND TO Piper's brand of nihilism (not refute it from first principles) -- all you have to do is show that it's not the preening, confident philosophy that it pretends to be. Doug is not a philosopher, although, if I recall correctly, he does have a BA in philosophy from a secular school. I'm not arguing that his response videos to a TikTok series are Philosophy 101-level material. They don't contain any deductive arguments. That's not really the point, though.

When I was an atheist I used to love Allen Watts. Now I cringe at his ideas. It's only logical if you don't have the wisdom of God.

Look, as a young child, his father swung him around on a broomstick(?) until he fell off the broomstick and broke his wrist. He was told that it was a sprain. It wasn't. It was a broken bone. But he wasn't taken to a doctor until days after it happened. If this is true ...
Even if the father said he was sorry-- it was a weird and dangerous thing to do to a child. Why would he want his parents/siblings around his own children?
Well, it wouldn't be safe if he did. It wouldn't make good sense.

@Daniel Rojo yeah, it took me many mental stops to actually decipher this sophistic foolishness. He's basically saying that we are wrong even when asking the question regarding the meaning of life. Life is not serious; nothing really matters. We are the idiots trying to find meaning in nothingness. That's his petty argument.
We all have prodigal children. And truthfully, we were prodigal before life with Christ. Imagine Abraham in his right mind and saved. I’ll bet his dad does.

I am fairly certain the Bible has some specific instruction regarding the reprobate and his philosophies.
He follows Alan Watts because Alan was raised in the faith and went apostate as well. The problem is that I used to enjoy these teachings and found that they are chaos and cherry picking. Christianity is the only cohesive world view.
