Liverpool is also twinned with Shanghai, if I recall it correctly. Plus we had, at the time the largest and oldest Chinese Settlement outside of China as you mentioned.
The arch was imported piece by piece from Shanghai, a city which Liverpool is twinned with. The ceremonial arch stands at 13.5 metres tall and is the largest in Europe, in fact it is the tallest standing arch in any Chinatown outside of mainland China.
Hi I’m a scouser, looking forward to you both reacting to my hometown we are a family everyone looks out for each other, we are a working class city. I would say we are well known for our music The Beatles and our football teams my team (Liverpool and our local derby Everton. The City have had some dark days such as Hillsborough disaster in 1989 but we all supported everyone. Thanks for looking into my hometown city Liverpool
I love Liverpool. Never visited before this year, but we’ve been 3 times now and love it, it’s just such a nice city with a lot to see and do and the Scousers we’ve met have been really friendly.
When my daughter decided to go to university in Liverpool I must admit I was very worried (it was not many years after the Toxteth riots). I found the city amazing. We arrived Saturday morning and, after dropping off our daughter we went into the city centre. No problem parking on the river front and a fraction of the parking charges down south. She stayed very close to the first Cathedral and her graduation ceremony was held there. I don’t know why but the atmosphere there kept making my eyes blur when she went up for her award. China Town, although small, if fantastic. We were walking in Sefton Park and at the far end of the path we’re a group of half a dozen 10-15 year old boys on bikes. They came bombing towards my wife and I, and I was sure we were about to get mugged. As they reached us they stopped and just started chatting to us. Then off they went. Although often difficult to understand (accent) we found people so friendly. One thing that did shock us was seeing glass covers over all the displays of sweets etc in the shops. Something we had never seen before. I am not a lover of cities (ex SE London originally). Liverpool is a city I could happily live in. Everyone should visit it if they get the chance.
Isn't it amazing how jaundiced people's perceptions are from the horrible biased southern media. Liverpool is one of the safest cities in the UK. But the amount of over the top vile press it gets is complete rubbish. People really need to drop the stigma about this city. It's a truely wonderful place
Unfortunately, many people are put off by ridiculous stereotypes and a few high-profile negative news stories but I wouldn't live anywhere else I believe us scousers are some of the most welcoming and kind people on the planet
This is lovely to read but also somewhat sad because we scousers know the stereotypes about us get about particularly in the south, but once people actually visit they see it’s a lovely city with friendly people, as you did :) and with some excellent architecture and scenery!
The sweets are covered for hygiene heath reasons..Kids and some adults dipping their hands in can transfer bacteria to the confectionary Its normal in Europe
hi gorgeous ladies x ..I'm ten mins away from Liverpool City centre decided to go xmas markets yesterday coz my daughter was off work..big mistake..huge...it was rammed ...packed beyond belief...didn't stay but it was Saturday...goin the theatre on the 6th which is a Wednesday so will go again then...but the atmosphere in liverpool is always second to none its just the best city ever xxx
Glad you liked our city Natasha and Debbie. I was born and bred in Liverpool and still live here now. If your planning to come to Liverpool when you come to Britain maybe we could meet up and me and my partner can show you around. Love Mike & Paul ❤ Liverpool England
Dear Debbie and Natasha, I have been subscribed to your channel for a few months now. And very much appreciate the love and warmth you have shown for the UK, and especially our Armed Forces. And particularly the Royal Marines and the Royal Marines Band Service. I was a proud member of HMRM's (though not the Band) for 24 years -> 1966 to 1990. Having said that, I am also a very proud Liverpudlian too! I have just watched the video on Liverpool above. I don't want to be disparaging, but it really didn't do the city justice! Very few - if any - "Northern Hemisphere" city's look their best in the autumn, as winter approaches. That said, the warmth and friendliness of the people who live there will brighten the darkest of days. It has the greatest number of architectural "Grade 1" listed buildings in the UK - outside of London! It has two famous Premier Legue (and International Football (soccer to you!) Clubs -> Liverpool FC, and Everton FC. It has two Carhedrals, multiple Museums and Theatre's too. The city is twined with Odessa in Ukrain. And when Ukrain couldn't host this years Eurovision Song Contest, Liverpool stepped up and did it on behalf of Ukrain. It's said to have been one of the best in the competitions long history - Google it! Liverpool was founded by "Royal Charter" in 1207 - yes 1207! - by King John. When it was little more than a small settlement on the shore of the River Mersey. It was once one of the world's principal trading ports with a worldwide trading reputation. Regretabbly, that included the Slave Trade, too, back in the day. During WW2, the city was the Royal Navy's and Allied Forces Maritime Headquarters for the Battle of the Atlantic. Churchil described it as the longest battle of the war! The HQ, is preserved and is open to the public to view! With the introduction of "Container Shipping," the city's old Albert Dock estate - now called the Royal Albert Dock! The pre-fix "Royal" was added a few years ago. The abandond docks underwent a huge regeneration programme bringing new lfe to the docks and surrounding area. It is now at the heart of the city's many cultural and tourist attractions. The regeneration programme is ongoing, Everton FC, are in the process of building a new multimillion pound football stadium on the site of the regenerated north docks area. I could go on, but I'll call it time here. May I suggest you Google: "Liverpool, its History and Attractions" to see and learn about this wonderful city and its people, you won't be disappointed - enjoy.........🇬🇧👍🏻👍🏻!!!
hi Terence - great summary - I'm a proud Scouser (blue nose) living down south - as you alluded to Liverpool was one of the biggest ports in the world hence being twinned with Shanghai (seafront of latter looks similar to old Liverpool as designer of the Liver building was responsible) - not surprised China gifted us that arch - I read recently Liverpool had the first Mosque in Europe - the Scandinavian sailors stew "lob skauz" gave us our name - truly a melting pot of world cultures in it heyday - the people make the place and are very welcoming - people in London can be friendly by the way - you just need the tube to break down and they'll then start talking 😂
Liverpool once had the largest Chinese population outside of China in the whole world😳 it really is a fascinating place with huge Irish, Welshy and Scottish, influx of people coming to live there and help to build this great city and make it the successful place it is.💙❤️
I was born and raised on The Wirral, just over the River Mersey to Liverpool. So I know Liverpool very well. I live 250 miles away now but Liverpool is still, and always will be, home to me.
I’m a kiwi married to a scouse we have made many trips to from New Zealand to Liverpool over the years. It is an amazing city so full of history. You must visit you won’t be disappointed .
Born and bread scouser here. I absolutely love my city, there’s literally something for everyone and a million and one things to see and do. Hidden gems for me are rococco coffee house on lord street (find a seat by a fire or a window seat in the front room and watch the world go by) and bold street is an ever changing road of amazing places to eat and grab a coffee. If you do ever visit, please go into the cathedrals, paddy’s wigwam is one of the most stunning buildings ever from the inside. The library is gorgeous with a mix of the new and old, make sure you go into the children’s library section for the architecture. There’s so many little places and streets to explore as well as the big main streets, you could easily spend days just wondering around and exploring.
When I was in the last year of junior school (11 years old) I was in the school team of 4 pupils for an inter-school general knowledge quiz. Our local competition heats were held in Everard Avenue Library. We made it to the final which was held in the Picton Library reading room. Liverpool is second only to London in the number of listed Victorian buildings in the UK.
You forgot to mention all the beggers people like you really do think we are a city of utopia were we're a city full of lovely people which you know isn't true
My elder daughter went to university, John Moores, in Liverpool and never came home. She lived on Hope Street between the Cathederals in student digs. I have a scouse grandson!
I live in Lancashire and went to visit my sister and stay for a week in Liverpool knowing nothing about it. I loved it. Such a great city. People are friendly. The docks, the library and the museums were probably my highlight. The docks were also filled with so many tiny jellyfish and you could just look right at them. Very much a great place to visit any time of the year.
I’m from Liverpool and this place has so much more than everyone thinks yes we just a unique bunch of people who look after each other and everyone else who comes into our city, I’ve been all over the world for my job and for family holidays but to come back to Liverpool there is nothing better, Anyway love you two and love your videos From Marc and Tina all our best wishes to you both Merry Christmas 🎄 ❤
Liverpool was the 1st place that Chinese arrived in the UK and settled and as you both have said, There's so much more. Under the Buildings opposite the Liver Building , There's a room that the Battle of the Atlantic was controlled. Visitors welcome. The statue of Queen Victoria is built on the land a Castle used to be. The street opposite is castle street. There's a lot of History in Liverpool. Around the museums scattered around, You will find parts of ships that are pretty famous.
Liverpool was the main port of departure in Europe for people emigrating to the USA in the past two centuries, mainly on White Star line and Cunard Line vessels, more than 11 million passed through the port ,
Liverpool Central Library is terrific. it had major work done on it a few years back, and the new spiral - off centre - staircase takes the breath away. Also, the adjoining older, wood panelled, circular Picton Reading Room is like something from a wonderful lost age.
@@douglastaggart9360you’ve peppered your negative comments all over this page. There is good and bad everywhere. If you genuinely live in Liverpool I suggest you contribute to your community with positive actions instead of just denigrating it.
Fantastic video. Live music in Liverpool city is fantastic. Lots of theatres and performance spaces. I’m from Liverpool and love it. People are so incredibly friendly and helpful too.
Highly recommend the Library - even more amazing when you realize the ultra modern interior is a renovated 18th (?) Century building alongside the old Reading Room, so going into it through plain doors in an old building is a jaw-dropping experience. But the very best thing about Liverpool is the pretty girls! I found mine 61 years ago - best days work of my life!
As someone who lives on the Wirral (the opposite bank of the River Mersey), I'd suggest that each of the attractions she pointed out are worth a morning or afternoon each if not a whole day. There's a few more museums too such as the Western Approaches Museum (which is about the battle of the Atlantic during WWII).
The two cathedrals linked by Hope Street are both worth visiting, She didn't show the inside of the Roman Catholic Cathedral, known locally as Paddy's Wigwam but that is well worth visiting. Halfway between the two cathedrals is the Philharmonic Dining Rooms and yes the men's toilets really do have conducted tours,
Please do not call the RC Metropolitan Cathedral "Paddy's Wigwam" it is grossly insulting to Catholics. All the beautiful Norman and medieval Catholic churches around the UK were either destroyed or taken and redeveloped by Protestants during the Reformation. 😢
I absolutely love Liverpool, one of my favourite UK places, I’ve been lots of times over the years. There is so much history and as you saw in the video so much to see ❤️
Haven't ever been to Liverpool unfortunately, but loved this video and now lots of things I would love to see in person. More learning with Natasha and Debbie :-)
Hi ladies thanking you so much for looking at my city. I live on the outskirts in Childwall. It’s a fantastic place, Love my city and people. Hey, if you need a cathedral we’ve got one to spare, ❤ xx
We’re taking our 4-year-old son up to Liverpool in a couple of months for his birthday as we’re Everton supporters and want him to experience Goodison Park before it closes at the end of this season (we live in Dorset so it’s a bit of a hike to get there that often). Can’t wait for him to experience some of the amazing places in Liverpool, because although we’ve both been on trips several times before (outside of trips to Goodison), this has given us lots of ideas of places to take him! Thankfully we’re staying for a few days, so lots of time to take it all in! Lovely video❤️
I visit the UK roughly every other year, and Liverpool has been on my “must do” list each time, but something always got in the way😢. (Next time, I promise!) I’ve always had a soft spot for Everton ever since Tim Howard was GK. Wishing the Toffees all the best this season. Hope they don’t leave it too late, otherwise even another miracle finish might not save them⚽️.
@@paulguise698 I think that while the points deduction is grim, it might galvanise everyone (team and fans). Be awful to leave the upper tier in the last season at Goodison and start a new stadium era in the Championship😢
The kids parents should break the chain and let them support a football team that can play football and put a smile on their faces, they should have a childline phone outside goodison for kids to use if they want to change to be a red.😂@@deanofivetimes
Excellent video, glad you enjoyed it. From St. Luke's bombed-out church all the way down to the Victoria Monument is the main shopping area of central Liverpool. Lots of beautiful bars and restaurants, and back streets to explore. Some magnificent Georgian buildings including The Blue Coat School, which houses galleries and coffee shop.
Wow we're intrigued about this great city. I've personally seen one of the Liver birds up close high up as a tourist once! It was surprising how huge they were! And also heard the Liver building was Europe's first skyscraper and an inspiration for the iconic Empire State Building!👌
Liverpool is an amazing city. You can easily spend a full day down at Albert Docks in the museums. The Liver building has two Liver birds on the top-one facing out to protect all the men/sailors and one facing in to protect all the women of the city-and to keep the pubs open.
The two Liver birds, one male, one female. She's looking out to sea, waiting for her lover sailor to come back up the river and he's looking toward the city centre to see if the pubs are open.
I’m from north Wales and I have visited many cities in the UK. I have to express my view that the people of Liverpool and the friendliest and most helpful of all.
I was born in Liverpool, lived in Manchester south all my adult life & despite the banter between us we are both great industrial cities with a rich history & a close relationship. The countryside nearby is stunning. Thank you for posting!
@@suave-riderit's more the atmosphere rather than the statistics. Don't know where you're from but the North West of England has so many different cultures that give us that multicultural feel.
@@suave-ridernortherners like to give a good impression of themselves, usually at the expense of southerners. Eg.. ‘we’re much friendlier up north’. Things like that. If you’ve done something once, they’ve done it twice. You NEVER hear southerners say anything like that, they just don’t feel the need. I’m northern born btw, but brought up in the south since I was 7yo.
@@Roz-y2dmy son lives down south and I visit London and the south east regularly..while people are friendly down south I don’t think the conversations flow the same as they do in northern towns and cities (my job takes me to numerous locations nationwide) . I don’t think the friendliness is a any less but maybe a little more reserved..
I was up in Liverpool last month for a long weekend. Had a great time. The cathedral was huge and impressive and can recommend The Beatles Story exhibit at Albert Dock, well worth it as was the Beatles bus tour around the key sites where they lived and grew up.
Don't be ridiculous we've got lots of lowlife scum in this city. Only two weeks ago two tourists were attacked and mugged in bold street. Honestly take your blinked glasses off.
I was really impressed; Liverpool seems like a remarkably interesting place to explore. The library was amazing! Natasha and Debbie... or should I say MAP WOMEN! 🤣🤣 Thanks so much ❤❤
Awesome episode! Me love Cathedrals and libraries too as well as anything museum or art… never went to Liverpool in the UK largely cos I’m not a Beatles fan and thought that’s the only reason you’d go there. How wrong I was… I’ll go there next time… un-blindfolded…. 😅❤❤ Thank you
Really weird but ive just been to Liverpool Xmas Market for the first time. We had fab weather and the city was amazing and really busy which was great to see.
If you saw Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, the Philharmonic Hotel (pub and dining rooms) is where Paul and his band did the impromptu gig. It's well worth a visit as the interior decor is beautiful and they serve amazing savoury pies.
We love Liverpool and her people, we only live 30 miles away but go there to the theatre and to see bands relatively often. It’s a great place to visit can’t all be experienced in a couple of days given you a great excuse to go back.
St George’s hall is the home of the extremely rare Minton Tiles. The floor is covered for most of the year to protect it from damage and the hall was where Charles Dickens first gave a reading of A Christmas Carol to an invited audience. Me and my husband were married in the hall. Liverpool also has the largest number of grade 1 listed buildings in the UK outside of London
I was in Liverpool recently for a comic con at the arena. I got to meet the original Columbia from the Rocky Horror Show. We were there for 4 nights in total, but needed longer😊
So happy to see this pop up! I’m a student in Liverpool and I LOVE it here! Liverpool is a fabulous city with a massive Irish population (including myself!) great reaction to this wee city and definitely best experienced in person!
Liverpool looks like a great place to explore for travellers and locals alike. Natasha and Debbie, you’ve highlighted so many places to visit in this video. I think in this city, the longer you stay the more you will find to do! Thank you
Born in Liverpool at the end of the 40s. Just so much to see and do any time of the year. The article tried to do so much in such a short time and the missed out so many things such as the transatlantic liners that used to go from there to the USA. Also the war rooms which controlled a lot of the convoys during the Second World War. The first overhead railway in the world, an example of one of the carriages in the Museum of Liverpool. Thank you girls for giving me so many memories.
I feel so lucky with where I live now. Manchester is less than an hour away, the Lake District, Liverpool, Leeds and the coast are an hours drive. On a clear day I can go to a place where I can see 3 National parks and Blackpool tower. You are right we live in an amazing place
Also the Peak District and Snowdonia for walkers who would appreciate a change from the ultra busy Lake District! Not to mention some great pubs and scenery in Cheshire, plus Jodrell Bank for space enthusiasts.
Wow, never been to liverpool but maybe feel a Christmas trip coming on. Another great video girlies so perhaps you should come in the winter time for a visit. I love churches and always go in the cathedral of the town we are visiting. Well done this young ladies videos are a great way to find out what's what in places. 👏👏👏👏
i'm so excited to see you both are taking a look at liverpool, i was born and raised in liverpool and im always so proud of my city we are a multicultural working class city and we always look out for each other, i'm also an lfc supporter, and as the saying goes when your a part of liverpool football club you will never walk alone (YNWA is our anthem for those who don't know)
Are you serious we have lots of lowlife scum in Liverpool and we don't all get on as you know. But you seemed to forget half of scousers support Everton.
Liverpool in the summer is amazing so much music festivals and events at the Pier head/dock area. The video didn't do it justice really but it was a great overview..What it didn't show is the many beautiful green spaces and parks it has also.....and you can go across the river on the ferry to the Wirral ,where you have seaside towns and lots of natural landscapes to explore also. It has such a lot of history in Liverpool I would recommend at least a weekend there.❤
Thanks. As always a great video. Last year I was lucky enough to go into Liverpool on my narrowboat home. The trip took me past the Liver Building and underneath the Museum of Liverpool and through Albert Dock. Liverpool is a compact city with so much to see. I highly recommend a visit 👍
Map Women - Luvvit! I remember in the Sixties when they were first experimenting with colour television they would put on short films in the afternoon so that shops could demonstrate the TVs. One of them was about the building of the Catholic Cathedral in Liverpool, the very modern one, as it featured very colourful abstract stained windows.
So nice to see you watching my home city , I live just by the cathedral so all of this is on my doorstep. Thank you for appreciating Liverpool it’s a great place, you both should definitely come visit 🥰
Great video of Liverpool but in my opinion it's just scratching the surface of what this wonderful city has to offer. A weekend there is a good start but to get the full experience I would recommend multiple visits. And as has been already mentioned to Liverpool people are a great part of the city experience.
so many memories in all those places through out my child & adulthood, Liverpool is an amazing place to grow up in, my mum used to frequent the cavern club when the Beatles played there before becoming famous, in the city everything is in walking distance, there are also parks all around Liverpool & some Victorian mansions, lots of people go to Liverpool football club, there is little garden kind of seating area across the road from the library that people use to have lunch or just sit & watch the world go by in the summer, it's away from the hustle of the city centre & quieter.
Hi girls I live in Liverpool and it is a fantastic place to live i not from Liverpool i was born in Dublin Ireland but i am a big Liverpool fan and i have lived in Liverpool from a child and its a great place to visit and there is so much to do and see and the people are so friendly and will help you to find places if your not sure where to go its just fantastic and there's so much history here i think that yous will enjoy it xx
I used to live about a 20 minute walk from town. I would spend hours in the library. I now live over the water on the Wirral and we often spend a weekend as a tourist in Liverpool. Doing tourist stuff, it never gets tiring. You should, if you have the time, visit the Wirral too.
Hi Debbie and Natasha. I'm a Scouser living in my home city. I've lived and travelled the UK and love my country. But like everyone I've met across the UK, would be super biased towards my home town. But having said that, we are a city that is geared towards tourism. So we lay as much on as we can. I spend a lot of time throughout the year in the city centre. You'd think that being from, and growing up in Liverpool would probably make me very used to and underwhelmed by it. But it's a city that is constantly changing and moving forward. Nothing stays the same for too long. So it constantly reinvents itself over and over again. I've taken many a friend from out of town in to the city I'm so very proud of for a tour. Up to now it hasn't failed to impress them. Please consider visiting our fine and proud city on your UK visit. Happy holidays 👍
I’ve been everywhere and there is no other place that I wish I had been born and raised in more than Liverpool. The people there treat you like family and there is amazing live music to be heard everywhere. You must spend an evening in the Cavern Club. You might be surprised that both Queen and Elton John also honed their early show skills there. BTW, I love the Stones and the Beatles. Did you know that the Beatles not only recommend the then little known Stones to their first record company and that they even gave them their first hit UK single. Everyone in the music and entertainment business thru this day is beholding to the Beatles for one aspect or another of their careers, but there’s not enough space to explain all that here.😊
Always fascinates me when you watch people exploring the UK that it's always cloudy , I promise you both that we do have blue skies and warmth. Hope you experience that on your travels soon. Take care keep up the good work
I spent many a Christmas visiting my grandparents in Liverpool during my childhood back in the 1960s. Back then there were lots of streets with buildings missing due to the bombs dropped in WW2. I haven't been there for years. Due for a revisit I think.
It's a great in the summer as they have all kinds of festivals. You are also very close to North Wales, Derbyshire, a few hours drive to the lakes. There is so much in the North West of England. I live 20 minutes away on the train from Liverpool. 45 minutes from Manchester. Very lucky to live here. Also check out Bold Street - fabulous places for food. Bomb out Church is at the top of Bold Street & China Town. It's worth a visit. ❤
Liverpool/USA. In a previous post, I mentioned that 9,000,000 immigrants ( from all over Europe ) passed through Liverpool ( between 1830 and 1930 ) on their way to North America. Now, that got me to wondering about how many present day Americans have an ancestor who passed through Liverpool. It must be a crazy number. For example, I have relatives in Canada who can trace part of their ancestry back to a Irishman who sailed from Liverpool in the 1840s. Now currently, there are at least 50 living people ( that I know of ) who have ancestry connections with than solitary Irishman.
I grew up on the North Wales coast aka the 'Scouse Riviera' as we're on Liverpool's doorstep so the whole coastline has been a favourite holiday and day-out destination for scousers for many years, so I've always felt a close affinity with our Scouse neighbours, and they're a good bunch, I also always feel a strong political affinity between us Welsh and the Scourers as we're both very socially orientated swaying to the left with a bit of a militant underbelly.
This is so true! I have spent more time in North Wales, as a Scouser, than probably anywhere else in the world, except Liverpool. Soon will change though because I now live in Cambridge, but Wales is such a magical country; it's hard to explain. When you cross the border and drive through the valleys and rolling hills and dramatic landscapes, it feels like another world. And the accent is so melodic - I could listen to it all day.
And Liverpool is often referred to as the 'capital of North Wales' because of the strong Welsh ancestry and influences on the city, along with Ireland, with it also being dubbed the 'most Irish city outside of Ireland'. It makes more sense in this context, then, that Scousers identify the least out of all major English cities as being English (along with the prejudice from the rest of the English, and the scapegoating of the Scouse in the English media). The Scouse accent is also unique because it is a blend of mostly Irish, with Welsh and Norwegian influences - and essentially no English influence. In the past, Liverpool was a borderland - meaning it was often switched between kingdoms through warfare - it was never clearly English until a lot later than other English cities.
Really? I'm no sure that would go down too well in North Wales as a whole, us on the North Wales riviera have close links to the scousers as I said, but inland there's still a lot of resentment for Liverpool, or the council at least, for the Tryweryn valley incident in the 60's, which Welsh nationalists still fell very strongly about, Cofiwch Dryweryn (Remember Tryweryn) is still a common slogan used to this day inland.
@@markjones127 I think that's overstated...I grew up well away from the coast in North Wales with one Welsh and one Scouse parent....a common combination in my day where I grew up (now rural inland Conwy). Most of the builders who built the streets of Liverpool in the early 1900s came from Caernarfonshire and Anglesey areas and the cultural influence, along with Ireland is interwoven so there's not such and "us and them" thing. The whole Cofiwch Dryweryn thing is something that has been reborn and blown up (certainly the painted logo which originated on a rock outside Aberystwyth which seems to have been used commercially nowadays). In recent years it has become emblematic for younger nationalists..but it was less so when I was young.
Liverpool and Manchester (my home city) are both just absolute jewels of the North West. There is so much character in both cities and so much to see and do. If you come and visit the UK, please try and get to both places (they are 30 miles apart) you won’t regret it.
As a scouser, we have a lot of historical stuff because we were once the biggest port of the country, also her video only shows the Liverpool City Centre, not the rest of the city and humour and friendliness off us scousers
Liverpool has a truly incredible history. It has been through some ups and downs over the last 100 years, but is currently on the up. I'm not a scouser but have a son-in-law who is. I've visited the city dozens of time and, in January '24, will be sailing from the Ocean Terminal on a cruise. It's where the Titanic sailed from in 1912, and also where hundreds of thousands of people emigrated to the US. Your ancestors possibly?
Wrong the Titanic was built in Belfast by the White Star Line whose head office was in Liverpool later the Cunard building and the name was on the stern of the ship, never sailed from Liverpool.
@johncodling9805 Wrong the Titanic was built by Harland and Wolf in Belfast not by White Star line who were just it's owner's. Canard building was the head office of Cunard Line's who bought out White Star who's head office was on James Street Liverpool. The Titanic was registered at Liverpool but never sailed from there because New York Atlantic crossings were moved to Southampton

Ha! Worcester is where I now live!
Spent a lot of my youth in the Anglican cathedral.
Home! Haven't been back for a fair few years, settled in Plymouth after I left the Royal Navy, but home is home. We've got tonnes of history.
Hi Natasha you are pronouncing it Scouzers when it is actually Scousers an S not a Z 😊
Liverpool is a wonderful city and the people are so friendly.
What’s even more amazing - all of the main museums are free to visit! The museum of Liverpool is the newest and is fantastic!
The Chinese arch is less of a surprise when you remember that Liverpool has the oldest established Chinese community in Europe
The arch itself is the largeset arch outside of china
Liverpool is also twinned with Shanghai, if I recall it correctly. Plus we had, at the time the largest and oldest Chinese Settlement outside of China as you mentioned.
Never knew that
The arch was imported piece by piece from Shanghai, a city which Liverpool is twinned with. The ceremonial arch stands at 13.5 metres tall and is the largest in Europe, in fact it is the tallest standing arch in any Chinatown outside of mainland China.
Yes, its shocking how many people know that, scousers and that though, and the only city with 2 cathedrals aswell

As a Liverpool born Irish Catholic this is the best city in the world
Who cares what religion you are
I love Liverpool. Never visited before this year, but we’ve been 3 times now and love it, it’s just such a nice city with a lot to see and do and the Scousers we’ve met have been really friendly.
Love seeing comments like this. Had to Put up with being stereotyped all my life by people who have never stepped foot in our city. 👍
@@yemalad1.Me too, especially when working in London and living in Hertfordshire. 😢

This wasn’t over loose sweets this was things like Mars Bars, Kit-Kats etc. the things that are on open display around me.
Greetings from Liverpool, much maligned by some, but actually a great place, as many tourists discover! 🙂

Glad you liked our city Natasha and Debbie. I was born and bred in Liverpool and still live here now. If your planning to come to Liverpool when you come to Britain maybe we could meet up and me and my partner can show you around. Love Mike & Paul ❤ Liverpool England
I'm from the Midlands ...Liverpool is my favourite city.
Fabulous! I'm from The Wirral which is on the other side of the Mersey but this is my 'city'. Everton fan here. 😍👏💙💙
AND, a big shout out for the two ladies in the actual video. Great stuff.
4 of my 5 sisters live in Liverpool. I support Liverpool FC

I’m from Liverpool and this place has so much more than everyone thinks yes we just a unique bunch of people who look after each other and everyone else who comes into our city, I’ve been all over the world for my job and for family holidays but to come back to Liverpool there is nothing better,
Anyway love you two and love your videos

Merry Christmas 🎄 ❤
The reading room is beautiful.
My husband is a Scouser, the people are the highlight of the city, exceptionally friendly and an unique sense of humour.
You obviously have met all of us we've a lot of lowlife in Liverpool.
@@douglastaggart9360you’ve peppered your negative comments all over this page. There is good and bad everywhere. If you genuinely live in Liverpool I suggest you contribute to your community with positive actions instead of just denigrating it.
@@douglastaggart9360I'm a scouser. Like every city there is good and bad. Liverpool is far better with less crime than the 80s & 90s

I hope Everton stay up, the premier league wouldn't be the same without Everton
@@paulguise698 I think that while the points deduction is grim, it might galvanise everyone (team and fans). Be awful to leave the upper tier in the last season at Goodison and start a new stadium era in the Championship😢

Thanks for that information, adeleritchie!
The local joke always used to be that the Liver birds flap their wings when a virgin walks by.
The two Liver birds, one male, one female. She's looking out to sea, waiting for her lover sailor to come back up the river and he's looking toward the city centre to see if the pubs are open.
It also has the largest clock face in the uk
The two Liverbirds are called Bertie and Bella
In the song " IN MY LIVERPOOL HOME " there's a reference to the cathedrals which says" if you want a cathedral, we've got one to spare" .

Great video ladies I love the library I could spent a day in there looking around and reading. Thank you for brilliant videos
Everyone in the music and entertainment business thru this day is beholding to the Beatles for one aspect or another of their careers, but there’s not enough space to explain all that here.😊
Great video girls, hope you both enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday

I spent many a Christmas visiting my grandparents in Liverpool during my childhood back in the 1960s. Back then there were lots of streets with buildings missing due to the bombs dropped in WW2. I haven't been there for years. Due for a revisit I think.
It's a great in the summer as they have all kinds of festivals. You are also very close to North Wales, Derbyshire, a few hours drive to the lakes. There is so much in the North West of England.
Yeah a lot of Irish and Scousers also set sail to New York in the early 1900’s too
I grew up on the North Wales coast aka the 'Scouse Riviera' as we're on Liverpool's doorstep so the whole coastline has been a favourite holiday and day-out destination for scousers for many years, so I've always felt a close affinity with our Scouse neighbours, and they're a good bunch, I also always feel a strong political affinity between us Welsh and the Scourers as we're both very socially orientated swaying to the left with a bit of a militant underbelly.
I'm from North Wales too and agree with you.
I think she seemed to brush by the Liva building. It's an incredible building with It's own history. Check it out.
Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in the UK outside of China
The Arch was dedicated to Liverpool from Shanghai, Liverpools twin city when it was City of Culture🇬🇧
I know@@tydanum
Actually the oldest Chinatown in Europe!
About time, knew you'd get here eventually.
Great city!!
My favourite place in the UK . Fabulous city equalled by the hospitality of the locals..
❤ Hi. Have you checked out the British Christmas essential...PANTOMIME. It has an interesting theatrical history and I understand it bamboozles Americans who don't get the tradition and the humour. Hoping you can enjoy having a peep. Happy Christmas.
They did do a video about it "American Couple Reacts: What is a Pantomime?! Learning The History & Culture! FIRST TIME REACTION!!"
My home city. Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe. The two cathedrals stand at either end of Hope Street.
