The user numbers are wildly inflated. There's no way to know exactly how many accounts are bots or fake but it's certainly more than 50%. Photos of engagement farms are really fascinating.
Or how many accounts are people like me who literally only use it to enter lotteries.
2 billion people and nothing but crickets with large volume of content. We could see this thing is empty AF
You should do a Rise and Fall of MySpace
Big nostalgia for MySpace, absolutely loved that platform back in the day
It's been at the top of the requests site for months at least
Or perhaps a couple of years.
It was way better. The way to use your own html codes to put music and style was dope
@@AndresHernandez2it was teaching us creativity and coding so it had to die. :( now kids have mindless tictok..
People will say Facebook got Instagram on the cheap but without FB, Instagram may not have been possible to grow so big. You need the infrastructure, branding and the X factor to succeed
Instagram feels like constant commercials now.
Create an app that strokes egos. You rich.🤑
Remember the old Instagram app icon? Such a classic. I understand why they changed it, but I certainly don't like the new icon.
The new one is too modern ngl
I finally deleted instagram today after years of being trapped
Traped from what?
Nice!

Congrats!
And I finally got back in after 5 years after my escape 😂😂😂😂 you’re getting off at the wrong time.
It was a genius acquisition. Instagram was already established, but it had room to grow.

Feel much focused and inspired.

In the 80s and 90s it was always a joke in sketches that people HATED having to see holidays pictures of friends and family yet now people can’t stop watching useless pics from people with whom they aren’t even real friends with… weird
Society gets weirder and weirder by the minute.
You have to be weird, a sociopath to not want to see pictures of friends and family members. I have never known (thankfully) anyone who doesn't like that.
Even as a kid in the 90s, I loved watching physical pictures of family photos and albums, my whole family loved it. We would get together every once in a while at my house to watch all the old photos. My family has like 2 boxes full of photos from the 1960s to the 2000s. When our families went on vacations to Disney or wherever in the 90s, when we came back home, we would all get together one day to watch the videos and photos of our vacations. It was always a good time remembering the good times we had on our vacations. We would usually gather at my aun't house or grandma's house to watch them.
Even nowadays it's wonderful to see all the pictures of our families and friends on Facebook or social media, especially those we never see in real life because they live far. It always makes me happy seeing them on their daily life, vacations and enjoy life. If it wasn't for photos, then what would be the point of FB and social media?
Now seeing photos of people you don't know or aren't friends with, might be kinda useless. But even then, it's still enjoyable, seeing the beautiful places where they live and go. Places I will never go in real life, but thankfully, I can appreciate their beauty from my home.
I love seeing pics from all the U.S. states, Canada, Australia and all European & Asian countries, they are gorgeous!
At this point there are two instagrams. 1. Are regular people who just post photos and interact with friends. 2. Businesses, content farms and content creators all trying to make money and post "engaging" content
I use Instagram to follow a local rabbit rescue, since they use Instagram as their primary outlet for event announcements. The only things the app pushes on to me are bunny pictures, boot pictures, and car crash videos. Occasionally I'll get a stray Indian street food, or dumb Chinese viral video reposts. There's a ton of just stealing content repost stuff over and over, even bunny content.
Instagram is like the matrix. People live double lives 😅
Description of all social media.

I read that Instagram was the most deleted app in 2023 by far. Should we expect a rise and fall video?
We can only hope.
People quitting because they're tired of their addiction is one thing, but what I see is that it's starting to feel like Facebook, with all the ads and all the business that goes around it. Now everyone knows they HAVE to be on Instagram to do business, and there's a lot of formality with the hashtags, the tagging, the censorship, etc.
It's good for communities but it'll eventually feel like a newspaper, just like Facebook.
Funny, I check the App Store and the app is number one above RUclips in the photo and video category, Gotta stop spreading misinformation homie.
Big Zucky Made Insta Bussy
Its ZUCKed😅
Social media is so unbelievably toxic to so many people. Im so glad i got rid of all of them. Snapchat, twitter, Instagram, reddit, never had facebook. Life is so much more peaceful without being constantly bombarded with peoples best moments of their life. Really gives you an appreciation for when they come around
you're currently posting on social media
Because of Facebook’s buyout of Instagram! Even though I haven’t used them in years, because I hate people asking me about my family and children online, so I deleted it. Also fun fact, Instagram actually inspired the revival of film photography because people wanted to print their own photos.
I like Facebook for its group section. I don't have an account under my real name so its anonymous
@@em84c I deleted Facebook nearly a decade ago, people were bugging me to add them as friends and they kept messaging me “Hey Matt, please send me your picture.” Like No, I’m not there to be personal online with desperate people!
@@em84csocial media should not be anonymous
I recently was able to finally stop myself from using instagram and it was the hardest social media to quit of them all. Tiktok and Facebook were easy, Twitter was slightly harder, but Instagram was tough
Reddit is the only app worth using. Scroll by latest, choose only the topics and interests you want, no need to network and invite real life friends to your account. It's almost like the 90s internet forums, on every single topic imaginable, all in one place.
I think it's been hard (for me) because the direct messaging is built into the app. Something like Facebook has Facebook Messenger and allows you to distance yourself from the actual content feed unless someone shares it with you. With Instagram, it's all integrated into one. I have many friends I only talk to on IG. At this point, I just use the web browser version on my desktop to check messages and that seems to scratch the itch while still not missing any messages.
Good job getting away from all that. That's respectable.
@@RT-qd8yl it became really unhealthy how much time I would spend on it. I typically average like 3-4 hours of screen on time a day and it got to the point where instagram was pushing it up to 5 hours a day and it would be 2.5 hours of IG
Probably because Instagram focuses on (fake) "positivity" rather than rage baits. Facebook, TikTok, Twitter and even RUclips (if you counted YT as a social media) all feature a lot of (misinformed) posts or straight up lies about politics and culture war rage baits to get more user engagements. A lot of the time scrolling through these social medias are just angry adults screaming at each other while not fully understanding the issue. These social medias are intentionally designed this way to encourage knee-jerk reactionary behaviors like this. Scrolling through Instagram is more addictive if you dont care to engage in rage baits.
I have never used instagram.
At this moment, evidently there are 13 of us who can get through the day without having our egos stroked by how cool our breakfast looks and trying to show off their fantastic vacations, all on their credit cards. To the butt- hurted muppets, have fun with that.
The only reason I have an Instagram account is because my sister post pics of my young nephew on it. Just like Tiktok, I just don't "get it".
You aren't missing anything. I have an account only because it came with Facebook. But Instagram is absolutely useless to me. I don't take pictures or share them. Oh well.
I use it to look at videos of cool guns and mini horses
Me neither.
Tried to use it for work purposes, had no idea what I was doing. Hadn't touched it since.
Me too. The layout is so annoying
I genuinely do not use any social media, never really have other than facebook from like age 12-15. After that I've really never gave a shit about any single social media and I still don't.
I do use reddit but I use that more as like a board site rather than a social media
You’re commenting on a social media
@@ericsilva-gomez2481 youtube is not a social media my guy
Your on social media, make it make sense.
Instagram is probably my least disliked form of social media. But their algorithm is still trash and I hate that their functionality hasn't evolved in ages. I am getting out of social media more and more and in the long run Instagram will not escape that fate.
i enjoy all the companies you cover, keeps me very informed. iam not a instagram user. i barely share on facebook.
I have REFUSED to get on Instagram because once you make one you cannot delete it no matter what. Already made that mistake with Facebook 😢
@@a.a.v9698
Nah man, even with that, it’s still there. That’s why you can “reactivate” it and have all your info still there. They never deleted it even tho you clicked everything to do so. It’s their company policy.
Instagram has made a lot of improvements lately, and I like that I can heart react to peoples stories. I also like their DMs. Super easy to use compared to Snapchat or Facebook messenger which feels too personal.
After my second child I realized happiness was home and I could care less about other people seeing us. Also I realized I was getting super informed about fake stuff from people I didn't care about anymore, when I have such short time between taking care of the kids wife, the house and, obviously, work. So I quit. It was hard at first, but once out of the loop, it's even easier to stay out.
Threads - Why It Failed
Failed?? Gen Z in my country really into Threads now.

2 months later now the app is making a massive rebound and with an API around the corner it’s about to get good 👏
One word: Dopamine
I don't use Instagram but my mother does. She follows my fav singer, Amy Shark, so I can see what's going on.
There's nothing like the cry of "There's an Amy!"
Would have like to hear whether or not they were sued for copying "story" from snapchat.
Love your videos BTW, very informative 👌🏽
There was no lawsuit that I'm aware of.
As someone who has been a social media marketer for 10 years, I can say with the utmost confidence that Instagram is the better platform compared to all the rest. The only reason why Facebook even compares is due to timing and audience. If you were going to start a business and you had to choose one platform, I would choose this one.
Great video.
I actually just deleted my Instagram a few days ago. I don't know what was up with their algorithm but it started feeding me nothing but conspiracy garbage and videos full of misinformation. On the worst offenders (the kind that could actually cause harm) I would reply with corrections to their post/short. Instagram would instantly flag it as spam and remove it. It started affecting my overall mood so I decided it was time for it to go.
I can’t wait to watch the video on the failure(?) of threads
You aren’t getting any of that bud
Instagram runs on suffering. Make negative comment- people reply- creator pins it- creator makes reply video because of negative comment- other comments call out negative comment + give sympathy to creator, rinse and repeat. Everything on the app is designed to be as negative as possible. Always remember, the machine feeds on human suffering.
I love you. You are great. Fantastic comment. One hundred emoji.
Complete misinformation
I like certain aspects of Instagram, and use it to do the most internet thing: post cats. But I positively loathe stories and the fact that they refuse to add certain features to the desktop app is maddening.
Yeah but 1.8 million of those accounts are Fake profiles or from people who have 10 accounts used for scamming. Same for every social media site.
Deleted Instragram a few years ago. Life's good, no drama
Like how pissed you folks are in the comments because this video is praising Instagram 😂
I feel like I was too old to get into Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. I dropped Reddit from my life after they cut out 3rd party apps last year, which still hurts a bit. But I still use Snapchat almost every day because its the most fun I've ever had with social media with the people I actually know.
I seriously wish I could quit everything related to social media, including youtube... I'd have so much more time and happiness in my life but the addiction is real.

It's been six years since I've been a regular on this site or Facebook and I don't miss a thing. Especially today with all of the garbage out there.

Good and entertaining video as always. I feel like this was made a few years too late though. Since it doesn't reflect the current state of the app. Let alone social media as a whole and the gradual downfall in its users. Hope there is a follow-up video.
Has there been a downfall of social media users? It all appears more popular than ever to me.

These social media platforms are a plague. I feel like after the big collapse, hundreds of years from now historians will look back on AI and these social media platforms as the beginning of the end.
Never used IOS as never had an iPhone and never will

What I like about Instagram (or a feature) is also the addition of “close friends” where you select like your core friends and post stories that only THEY can view and not the rest of your followers so that adds like an extra layer of privacy and makes some users (by their friends) feel like they are exclusive of something
PLEASE DO A HASBRO…. BIGGER THAN YOU KNOW video 🙏🏼
Imagine turning down $3 billion, only to have the potential buyer take your main feature, implement it better in their app, and suddenly reduce your growth by 83%. 😂

Company Man what’s your favorite app?
RUclips!
@@companyman114 Great Choice!
@@companyman114 lol it's definitely the only "social media app" I use. The rest are garbage. Although I hate that it's now owned by Google. If I had to list the top 10 companies/organizations I don't trust in the world, Google would definitely be on it, along with Microsoft, the WHO, and of course the CCP aka ticktock.
I love the fact that it's owned by Google, it was like a perfect match. I hear a lot of people praise the early days of RUclips but I personally think it got waaaaaay better over time as Google developed their monetary system and attracted more/better creators.
Instagram has ruined their best feature
Searching posts by hashtags now has no option for recent posts
Impossible to discover new creators , only what their algorithm sees ok
I'm not a user, nor a big fan. It seems to be a waste of time.I'm sure there are quite a few creative artists out there who can make good of it, but personally, I have more important things to do.
Thanks for your video.
Glad to be one of the three out of four.... never had IG.
Deactived my fb&insta this month last year, and honestly, reflecting on the last tweleve months, I honestly feel like social media has been done.
I don't feel any hook to the platforms or any genuine evolution to the idea.
Hey, Company Man. Can you please do a video on the decline of Rooster Teeth? Their parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery recently shut down the company after 2 decades in business despite the controversies they had over the years. They were known for their original programs such as Red vs. Blue, Death Battle and RWBY (pronounced as Ruby). I want to know what problems they had faced before their demise.
I've considered it. Certainly a lot of scandals and other reasons to point to. I just question if my audience has a big overlap with the Rooster Teeth audience.
@@companyman114 might still be worth a shot. Most of the companies you feature are North American (as I am sure are a lot of your audience) but not all of us are (me for 1), so while they might not have the overlap at face value, they might still be interested.
For Rooster Teeth? I believe they were also from North America.
Never had it, never will.
Instagram was great before the bergs bought it
Coincidentally the day this video was posted. I deleted Instagram. Probably the best decision I'll make this year.
If you think everything just disappears and goes away your misguided. Also another concern and very big concern is censorship. If you don’t fall within their narrative, you’re not gonna be able to post.
Forgot to mention how they killed vine with the 14 second videos
Vine shot itself in the foot. Instagram just put the nails in the coffin.
The only reason I ever use Instagram is to communicate with several young people who don't use anything else and to view links people send me. Maybe I'm just old but I don't understand the appeal at all and video recorded in portrait remains an abomination.
Joanne Fabrics video?
I don't post anything on Instagram. I just like to live vicariously through other people. 😆
You should do ames
Def using Instagram
I'd love to know how many of these accounts are businesses, bots, content farms, abandoned pages, and spam pages
Instagram is the best social media company
Instagram is everything I hate about social media
I miss when Instagram focused more on photos and was intended more for photographers to share their work. Now it's almost like a clone of TikTok, there's too many people posting bland, superficial, narcissistic content and it's harder as a photographer to get noticed.
Just a reminder that Facebook/Meta had the opportunity to make IG a competitor to RUclips but *CHOSE* not to.
Thanks... At some point I think the world won't be sustainable without technology. People won't be able to do any day to activities without their phone.
- I do have Instagram but I follow a lot of topics such as COD and such. I don't post often but the setup and functionality are a plus. I will be okay without it, if it came down to it.
Instagram is where I learned how people in India HANDle their street foods. How people in China are paying with their face. How black person get mad in Korea when someone said "you" to them. And how people who are learning Japanese gave up after 5 kanjis.
