i get the feeling aarei was just made happier and turned into primarina 4 gens later due to blue seal dog, and then keromeelo and otoma were repurposed for the seismatoad line when gen five came around because of musical/vibration based tadpole to frog line. could just be me but that was my impression while looking at them in this video
too bad seismitoad line was a downgrade they're just a toad with lumps and don't even have a musical theme, they learn plenty of sound based normal type moves like hyper voice and uproar but that's it.

i think you misinterpreted clampearl and huntail, it seems to me like the throughline for the evolution is that they both use lures- i think the original clampearl *is* the clam, and the pearl with the "face" is the lure. the clam uses its tongue (with a fake face) to lure prey into its own mouth, and evolves into a pokemon that does the same with its tail. when gorebyss was added they changed clampearl because it didn't tie in with gorebyss at all, but it made the gimmick more confusing : /
That “Alabama banning California stuff” analogy sort of misses that Japan spent time trying to forcibly subsume and replace Korean culture. This makes the Korean hostility to Japanese cultural influences more understandable.

That spiky kangaroo rat could definitely be the starting point for Togedemaru. A lot of these beta designs are similar to Pokémon we did eventually get. Like the sad water dog sounds a lot like Primarina and the musical frogs like the Seismitoad line.

Just look at all the sound inspired mons(a frog with a note, teeths on yeti's foot look like soundwave, etc) that could explain some sound inspired mons but they ultimately decided to not any more types. If they actually added sound type in gen 3 could that mean they would've added a new type each gen which tbh would make things complicated and kinda hard to come up with an type that would work lol

24:32 wait i designed a fakemon based on baby mussels (mingled with clams) and it looks so alike I may be able to provide an alternate explanation: some mussel larva (or Glochidium) have things on their shells that look like teeth and it would be easy to imagine them as chomping mouths (see that first image on wikipedia in the atricle about Glochidium). They can be considered sort of "predatory" as they attach to the gills or fins of fish (with things that do look kinda like tails) , and if the pokemon evolves into a big gulper thing, it would make sense for it to be attached to the fish by its tail (though mussels de-attach when they grow up) please read this

Yakkoko is so damn cute, I’m a little saddened that it was cut. Hanteeru actually has a second sprite, the tail is modified to look more like Gorebyss in a Catdog style. Makes it interesting that they split them apart

The Parasite possessing various Pokémon skulls gives me "Buried Alive" vibes. Kinda a third Pokémon it would use, following the two White Hands.
Honestly, it would fit as a really neat ghost type.
And, it could've evolved by collecting more bones (possibly given to it by the player) to build a skeleton to stand up with that could give it an extra typing.

I may be able to provide an alternate explanation: some mussel larva (or Glochidium) have things on their shells that look like teeth and it would be easy to imagine them as chomping mouths (see that first image on wikipedia in the atricle about Glochidium). They can be considered sort of "predatory" as they attach to the gills or fins of fish (with things that do look kinda like tails) , and if the pokemon evolves into a big gulper thing, it would make sense for it to be attached to the fish by its tail (though mussels de-attach when they grow up)
