The seemingly robotic pokemon performs an action instinctive to organic life: seeking comfort. They aren't robots, THEY'RE CYBORGS UNDER A MECHANICAL EXOSKELETON! Paradox pokemon are essentially convergent evolutions taken from diferent eras (the very distant past or the very distant future) that are also meant to be like the "big foots" of the pokemon world.
So the weird names and the primitive/robotic designs make sense in my eyes since they're supposed to be like cryptids (that are creatures from cryptozoology and ufology mainly known from anecdotal stories and other claims rejected by the scientific community).
Which is why they all resemble known creatures but also have descriptions with bizarre lore and why they're featured in tabloids like the occulture magazine.

One thing you have to keep in mind with Chien-Pao is that the sword IS the Pokémon, not the snow leopard/weasel thing. That's basically just a construct created in order to move around, so it makes sense that the sword fragments would pierce the construct's face since they would stick better, and it's not like it would hurt or anything (hell, if anything, whatever pain Chien-Pao feels would probably stem from the fact that the sword, its actual body, is broken into two pieces)

Clodsire is not only adorable, it’s also great execution of a really cool concept! Basically the skull and crossbones on Wooper/Clod aren’t just because of the poison typing; They’re also based off the Iberian ribbed newt, which is a salamander that has sharp rips. When it’s threatened, it arches its back, poking its sharp bone spikes out at attackers. Its skin regenerates soon after, though, so don’t worry. That’s what the things that come out of clodsire’s back are.

To others, they’re precious babies who need love. I think it’s the humor or weirdness that can make people go one way or another, it’s like when a sculpture has chisel marks. They’re imperfections that are understandable, a mark that wasn’t removed or actively permitted, but it also gives it character, and for some it’s why they love it, while for others they dislike it.

Here's my hot take, I actually think the future paradox pokemon and past paradox pokemon have really interesting naming conventions. They are both really blurry and unreal, but in totally different ways. They're designed to give these creatures a lack of identity. They don't have specific names like pokemon do. It's describing the origins of these pokemon I think.
For example, the past paradox mons are more immediately descriptive like a cave man trying to describe something to avoid or see. Watch out for the roaring moon or the fluttering mane. It's premoderm, random and chaotic.
The future paradox pokemon are descriptive in a colder sense. Like a scentific catalogue very uniform and concise. It's criticize for being bland and that's a good thing because it's supposed to be bland. Iron Bundle, Iron Hands, Iron Moth. At the same time, I think the line's naming convention, related with the above imagery, is cute lol, like the three forms of Paw or something ha-ha. The first truly "monstery" starter since, like, gen 5 (as in I can't see someone turning it into a fursuit without heavy modification to the design) and it's just not his jam I guess. Never thought of the fire as hair, I always thought it was billowing from the mouth like with mega charizard x while also acting as a used up, broken nest for the fire bird, which I also love. The wombo combo of showing symbiosis between crocs and birds, while also giving skeledirge a mic for their dirges, AND giving us an example of pokemon that consist of two seperate individuals without it being literally just two of the same creatures like tandemaus or diglett?! 👌 PLUS the reference to land crocodilimorphs like kaprosuchus by giving it a rounded tail rather than a paddled one? Perfect way to do a hydrophobic crocodile. My only real complaint with skeledirge is why does the chest (and fire for that matter of fact ) have such a sharp angle to it? Really would've preferred that to be smoothed out, makes him look a little blocky. Oh well, I guess I just wanted to gush over skeledirge for a bit. That angle you mentioned to, I don’t know why it’s there… I don’t know, I wish I loved it more ;-; still a creative design nonetheless!

The tail is also shaped like a saxophone, its head looks like a sugar skull from dia de los muertos, the patterns on its snout both allude to the skulls of dia de los muertos and also a glockenspiel or xylophone, the hair is the color and shape of marigolds, which are the flowers of the dead, the body resembles trencadís sculptures while the color makes it look like a tuxedo, giving it an opera singer look. It's such an ingenious design, but I guess hurr durr cat with yoyo is better.

Moreover, I guess for another thing is that Meowscarada joins the ranks of the group/faction of Starter Pokemon that despite the gender ratio, their design plus theme-origin heavily implies them to being Female Pokemon; just like they did with Delphox and Primarina, as Meowscarda's pokemon category & design seem to imply that she is based off of Masked Female Stageshow Magicians. (And I guess the same thing applies toward Quaquaval too as I think people assume Quaquaval possibly leaning towards being Female because Quauquaval's humanoid design theme appearance, overworld movement animations, pokemon category (even its name in both english & japanese), and even its species origin is based on Female Carnival Dancers; in which they're not wrong as the view of it being female makes sense if you know the culture & look at Quaquaval for it

when it to the paradox forms I will say I vastly prefer scarlets, but seeing the animations of violets greatly increases my enjoyment of them, like the fact that when they sleep they turn off and how iron treads rolls with its body staying upright, and speaking of iron treads and great tusk, I don't think they could have chosen a better Pokémon than Doniphan, the tyre mammoth Pokémon, to have as the one you see first in both versions, with the original being a mixture between something old and something new to begin with.
Also fun thing I noticed with the treasures of ruin Pokémon is that the seals that hold them are all coloured as the types they each are weak too (poison, water, grass, and either fire or fighting, I lean to fighting cause its more orange than red) , I like to think its due to some old form of typed tera crystals built into the shrines.

Those are the differences, I get that they're similar but they're supposed to be. The line is growing up, and it's a great example of how sometimes you have to look closely to tell that something is a different species, and in this case Pawmo's differences from Pawmi definitely require it to be a different species. Just like Finizen and Palafin. If anything, its Pawmi that is the redundant one, cuz it's an underdeveloped Pawmo and the one that would be cut if they were cutting any of them. Pawmo is my favorite one but I love the whole line and their subtle differences. The game would not benefit at all if any of them were cut. There would just be less to enjoy.

And the fact that it is segmented now really drives home its tsuchinoko and nozuchi inspirations, and adds the punchline to the joke Dunsparce already was. Its segments managed to complete its thematic fantasy while staying true to its inspirations AND still managing to make it more serpentine for us snake lovers out there. Dudunsparce is an 11/10, one of the best cross-gen evos we've had, because they perfectly understood the assignment.

@@Nibbinzi think its actually cool that the lore in the game is optional, like you can take the time to get explanations about things in the region like the chinese legendaries and the bamboo forest if you care about that stuff, or you can just play the game and go with it

They were just dropped in the game with no connection to the rest of it. Feels like they were put there in the last minute, instead of having a game of their own. Such a disgrace

@@dingross as someone of Chinese descent, I think their just there to appeal to Chinese fans, and yes, it's a shame we don't have an actual game for them.

When I first saw Fuecoco I fell in love with his adorable bitey dofus energy, then as he evolved and matured he became a suave powerful singer. He is my second favorite fire type Pokemon after Incineroar.

I think skeledirge’s hair fire is supposed to look like bouquets of marigolds since those are important for Dia de los muertos.

Also it's not hair, they're coming out of its mouth

It also looks like pyrotechnics on a stage (the white part of the face is the stage, bird is the singer)

Rabsca's Violet entry says there's a sleeping baby in the ball. I love Ceruledge's design and the fact that as a follow Pokemon it's the only one I've used that can keep up with you on the ride Pokemon, plus as you walk around with it out and stop it'll zip behind you and will do so again when you turn around like it's watching your back

I love baxcalibur and how with it's signature move, it just turns around and flies at its enemies backwards to hit them with his "glaive" back...
