The Archeopteryx Pokemon - being Rock/Flying, actually feels more like an early version of Archeops more than Grovyle in my opinion, especially given the exact dinosaur it seems to be based on. It seems the idea was re-purposed for gen 5.

Something about Gen 3. For obvious reasons, it has massive "Pokemon going from the 90s to 2000's" vibes. Like it a lot though. Lots of greatness came out in these years
I wonder if "Lottery" was meant to evolve into any other Pokemon, chosen at random. The fact that evolution is its major feature in its dex entries yet it doesn't have anything to evolve into struck me as odd, and it being able to change into literally anything would match the lottery theme and explain why its dex entries marvel so much at how drastically it can change shape!
The Red Spider Lily pokemon became the Ralts line. There is even a nod to this in ORAS. When battling Wally at the end of Victory Road, the battlefield is surrounded by red spider lilies which appear nowhere else in the game.
@@TheObsessiveGamer it’s mostly in the dex entries about these Pokémon using their antenna to read thoughts, being similar to the entries for Ralts in RSE, as well as the detail that only females of the species have been found. Gardevoir is easily the most overtly feminine Pokémon since Jynx, I think there is a good chance that this ladylike lily was reworked into Gardevoir.
That foster pokemon is really interesting. Real big cats have actually been observed exhibiting this behavior in cerrain situations. Particularly the adopting a random species thing. Then scrapping this detail between the earlier snd later dex entries could be a big reaspn why the Pokemon was scrapped altogether. If the whole point was to represent this phenomenon in nature but it was deemed too questionable to include this detail, they might have felt the line had lost it's purpose.
The Flower pokemon may have been a beta version of Ralts, since it is also said to read human emotions or minds and Wally's family is from Verdanturf town, which has a lot of vegetation and large flower patches next to it. Plus, Ralts' legs seem almost stuck to the ground and its whole line has a very plant-like green color, which may be a leftover from early designs as a plant/psychic pokemon.
11:35 Its likely it was repurposed as Archen. Rock/Flying Its more than likely they just reused the art asset for Grovyle and made a new one for later gens. It's likely the cut dragonfly is a different starter line for Flygon, though Yanmega being added a gen later could also be a good point. We do know that they speculated on Gen 3 and 4 being "ultimate pokemon" and having comprehensive generational coverage, so by that logic we could also argue Mamoswine was planned for gen 3 and they ran out of room. Gen 4 dex as a whole had a lot of leftover pokemon from previous gens.
13:57 worth noting that Rayquaza is based on the Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl (known also as "the feathered serpent" who has an association with wind and the colour white, among many other things). i think this may have been a more straightforward first draft of that, but i like your theories about its origins and the original art of it!

Also, it reminds me of that one real-life lioness who had a cub that died so it would adopt baby animals that it would otherwise see as prey and try to raise them in the cub's place. But it never worked for long and they usually got picked off by other lions, so that's too bad.
You aren't wrong that there is one that came later BUT the reason this is Grovyle as we stated in the video is because Grovyles beta dex entry is the same as this one's.

Gust + Ember becoming Heat Wave is so cool! It's like an early version of the pledge moves being used in tandem to make a new effect. I bet they just had trouble implementing the combo effects so early on, and that it would function similarly to Grass Pledge + Fire Pledge. When he was talking about the moss pokemon i immediately thought of the paradox amoonguss, and then he said a gloom, and i was like "wow. How? 😂" Also i think the lottery pokemon might be tied to the lottery systems in the game. Like gen 4, in jubilife city where you can do the lottery thing. Maybe it would have a handful of different forms, like rotom does. But instead of it being a normal/everything combo like rotom. It would have just stayed a normal type, but its form changed its stats. So it could be a tanky pokemon, a fast support, or a sp atk or atk form, and the form was dependent on how good your lottery was
I feel like Everlasting Summer “could” have been a really early idea for Maractus with its thorny temperament, name, and being noisy in groups. Maybe they could repurpose Water Moss into a convergent or regional form for the Bulbasaur line. Also I like the “evolves” at a random level idea. Maybe you only obtain it at level 1 and each one evolve at a random level between 2 and 100. Obviously its evolution would be strong. Thing again this could either be feast or famine in a playthrough.
I always felt as if the front hopping bike was made for if the mache bike were to come to a hard stop. The front wheel may have had "breaks" like many bikes do (front and back, usually) so the bike would still maintain a "momentum" so it would likely tip forward? Idk
I don't know why I always think the front wheelie sprite was meant for the mach bike. Like you would do a cartoon style front wheelie whenever you stop moving with mach bike.

Sounds kinda like what they did in PMD with link moves.
When he was talking about the moss pokemon i immediately thought of the paradox amoonguss, and then he said a gloom, and i was like "wow. How? 😂"
Also i think the lottery pokemon might be tied to the lottery systems in the game. Like gen 4, in jubilife city where you can do the lottery thing. Maybe it would have a handful of different forms, like rotom does. But instead of it being a normal/everything combo like rotom. It would have just stayed a normal type, but its form changed its stats. So it could be a tanky pokemon, a fast support, or a sp atk or atk form, and the form was dependent on how good your lottery was
I always like learning more
I like to teach at that :3
The fact that they discarded those Pokémon is a freaking crime
Lottery Pokemon sounds like Gimmeghoul.
2:36 those sound cool, imo.
heat wave sound like pokemon contest combo
I feel like Everlasting Summer “could” have been a really early idea for Maractus with its thorny temperament, name, and being noisy in groups. Maybe they could repurpose Water Moss into a convergent or regional form for the Bulbasaur line. Also I like the “evolves” at a random level idea. Maybe you only obtain it at level 1 and each one evolve at a random level between 2 and 100. Obviously its evolution would be strong. Thing again this could either be feast or famine in a playthrough.

Water Moss looks like a Hoenian Bulbasoar.
@ TheObsessiveGamer you are a true legend thank you for your hard work and dedication I learn something new every time :)
Thank you! this one especially took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get through lol
Agreed I'm still hoping we get a prototype one day@@TheObsessiveGamer
I always felt as if the front hopping bike was made for if the mache bike were to come to a hard stop. The front wheel may have had "breaks" like many bikes do (front and back, usually) so the bike would still maintain a "momentum" so it would likely tip forward?
Idk
I really love your videos!
Thank you!
This is a masterpiece
Thank you! :)
I don't know why I always think the front wheelie sprite was meant for the mach bike. Like you would do a cartoon style front wheelie whenever you stop moving with mach bike.
I mean that's why one is the opposite of the other. Fast vs Cool
@@TheObsessiveGamer Yeah, maybe because the bike only had 1 set of speed, they think doing a front wheelie to a stop everytime you use mach bike was too much and scrapped it. Or maybe it was used whenever you hit a wall with your bike.
@@blameitondanny imagine crashing and nearly flipping out of your bike like that every time lol
@@TheObsessiveGamer I would love that tbh but I can see doing the animation everytime gonna get boring real fast.
@@blameitondanny It actually kinda reminds me of the crash animation they had planned for Sonic in Sonic 1 as well. If this was the case, I imagine they may have removed it for the same reason lol
Gen 3 was a big step down but compared to how bad the series currently is now it's a retroactive masterpiece by comparison.
Could the Sightseeing Pokémon perhaps be the Latias/Blaziken hybrid? It has horns and the artwork shows it carrying a human on its back.
torkoal is not known as kaenou in japanese. that was just some other scrapped pokemon that would have evolved from kaen. torkoal's japanese name is koutasu.
The electric imp guy would've been so cool to have
Eccellent video as always❤ not sure why you have so few subscribers yet
Thanks! I sometimes wonder that too (though 28k isn't anything to scoff at lol) hope the channel explodes one day
@@TheObsessiveGamerabsolutely nothing to scoff at, but man, i Always forgot how Little community you have for the quality of your videos. Let alone the art you made in this video Is worth 100000 subs minimum
Gloom? The Water Moss Pokemon looks more like Bulbasaur to me. I'll give you points on the smell, but the fact you didn't notice it looked like Bulbasaur
the pokemon @6:10 looks more like Bellossom
not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet. but when you were talking about which generation the first imp pokemon was introduced, you said 6, i'm sure it was a slip of the tongue and you meant to say 8.
edit: i scrolled through the comments where you corrected yourself. Hope you don't think i was trying to be one of those, "well um, actually" kind of ppl, i was just pointing it out lol.
haha no worries. I'm fine geting these errors pointed out. Thus why I have a pinned update notes for stuff like this
Great video like always. For future reference "timbre" is pronounced more like "tamber"
When did I say timbre?
@@TheObsessiveGamerPokedex entries for the Spirit pokemon and the Scale pokemon
You’re wrong, the battle Ecards did exist….. I have them
This guys reminds me of the voice of that kid Eugene from Bob's Burgers.
Still salty that the regi dolls look better than their actual overworld sprites
... ... ... Well This Is Gonna Be Interesting...
Hope you enjoy it!
The sprinkler is lotat, it was also the design for the watering can in gen3
If a shiny ditto uses transform on a celebi it transform in its shiny form
That moss pokemon resembles Shiny Ivysaur
