One thing I can say, when I was a young driver back in 2009, I had a few out-of-services, and I also had a few logbook violations. So, I believe when 2011 came, they said, whatever violations you accumulated from the past three years, it will count against you. So, for me, I was young, and I needed a second chance. One thing I hate about second chances in the trucking industry, you will be taken advantage of. So, some of these guys don't know how to drive responsibly. So, you have companies out here that's taking advantage of the situation. Is it right? No. But they take advantage by giving them shitty wages.
A lot of "owner operators" don't know what they don't know. I talked to one o/o who only knew that he got $3k every week. He didn't realize that the truck note and all the insurance came out of that.
Employees have to understand the market I have no problem with paying them percentage.
I've come across drivers who have been driving for 10-20 years who make less than me, and I've only been driving for a few years. Drivers stay at these mega carriers for over a decade still making 45cpm. I've taken note that many owner ops have been switching back to being a company driver for the last few years.
Another great video ronen. I got caught out in 2007 promised 25% of gross and it turned out 25% of net. My milage rate as a company driver was 12cpm. Took truck back and quit there and then.
I have spoken to a couple of companies ex. SWIFT about having a copy of the contract before I sign it for my attorney to review it and they told me no can do, to me that is questionable therefore I will not lease anything from any of them. Once we all refuse to fall for all the rip offs going on nothing will change.

The Zero Down Lease New Semi-trucking Agreement of Trucking Companies is a scam for truckers. You read/sign open agreements /semi-truck insurance/new semi-truck low maintenance/ pay low lease monthly $$$$$$ and with .40 - 1.90 cpm. You walk off leases all time, with inspection damages/mileages/maintenance need/clean truck negative to last paycheck.
Ibwas getting 36 cents per mile over 25 years ago and a load from California to Florida payed $10k to $14,000 25 years ago also but last year i took a load for $1.00 per mile to leave florida 😪

Ronen, thanks again for a great video. I have always said I will be an O/O when I have the cash to buy a truck and trailer straight out and a million in the bank for any unexpected costs. If I had that I would retire.
Sounds about right, being an O/O is basically having 3 jobs at once and the overhead needed is incredibly expensive…..

I worked for 6 years at 22% commission, Most times I made far more then the by the mile driver. Company I worked for had 2 divisions, one by the mile one on commission, I would be home every weekend an still took home 15k a year more then the by the mile guys.
I'll stay on commision, when a load pays 16k and you get 5k for doing it and it takes 4 days....nuts to be by the mile on that load.

I did work as a company driver that did 63 cpm however it wasn’t W2 but a 1099. I only did it for few months before going to a stable company.

Finally some good video . And by the way, I don’t know what is the average … but on this market, I have nobody of my friends who is driving for less than three doors per mile average 😅
The trucking industry is so screwed up. I joined a training school which is swift and should of never had lol, they had all of these Promises and what not on their advertisements and if you stay they pay for your schooling that got me into the program. Fast forward I passed the schooling and started driving the first week they only paid me 575 and therefore after the same amount weeks to come. They advertised .56 a mile but only had me running short runs constantly. I quit shortly after 2 months and of course the schooling fee was not covered due to me not staying for 2 years and I was charged 9K which it did state in the contract.
The trucking industry has to change it’s such a corrupt industry!!!
It really hasn't changed it's always been the same like that I've been in it for 25 years it's always been the same the 9/10 Grand that you have to pay I want to a city truck driving school I paid 10 grand for that out of my on pocket

Experience and live the life in another's equipment 1st prior to bankrupting themselves in a new industry. Trucking is a life, not a job. I ran towing, 09 it & 100k in equipment went, auto haul 18-22 another 100k in equipment went, part fuel spike part unrepairable issues, just got another tractor. If you don't know 100% it's what you want to be doing work others equipment a few years. Over half million miles in others here. New to the industry save from a job income first before you're committed to a payment, regs, insurance, and maybe hardly ever home missing many events normal people attend, we ain't normal, we are nomads.

There are a couple of other things that have been going on with these BS companies lately that drivers should steer clear of. NEVER sign anything saying it’s okay for a company to take ANYTHING from your paycheck other than the normal taxes and other legal deductions. If a company requires drivers to put money in some sort of escrow, DON’T do it. If they require a driver to sign something about giving a notice before leaving, DON’T do it. There is no law anywhere in this land that says a notice of departure must be given. Yes, it’s the right thing to do depending on circumstances. And these BS escrow things are everywhere. If you are driving a company truck as an employed company driver, the said company takes responsibility for any damage to equipment. If a driver intentionally destroys company property or tears up a truck, it is to be handled through a court of law and yes, the driver should be legally held responsible. If you agree to letting a company deduct money to be held in escrow, no matter why you end up leaving, you will not see a dime of that money in the end, even if you left the equipment like new and gave proper notice. I fell for it once. Ended up going through the Illinois labor board. It took two years to get a telephone hearing and I was lucky enough to have the proof I needed and was awarded the $1000 sucked out over 20 weeks. I never signed anything giving permission and they STILL deducted $50 a week. When I left, the company refused to give me my 1,000 back because I left without notice. I had a family emergency and had no choice. I was awarded the $1000 plus 5% per day for damages. The damages totaled more than the initial escrow. Dolche Truckload had to pay me just shy of $2300. If they had told me to sign something, I would’ve told them where to stick it on day one.
First off iam so glad you make these videos I was in a great lease agreement my bills total 1106.00 a week on a 2020 truck so basically the companies are screwing people

How about a video for new graduates to lead them to good start companies then? Becuase i start my first trucking job next week and the start pay is 42 cents per mile as a company driver.
Bison transport is pretty great for new drivers but the pay isn't great but the signing bonus and the 8 weeks $1000 a week is pretty sweet. However leave the moment you hit 6months please don't waist any time past that
As a rookie, take what you can get and get the experience you need to get to the 💰.
Your first job is (almost) never your "forever" job. Look at it as your "paying your dues" job. Keep your nose clean on that first job and talk to EVERYONE you see at the truck stops, shippers or receivers. Look at the equipment they're driving. Ask them how they like it, how dispatch works, what they don't like etc...Look at the type of trailer they pull. Maybe you'd like flatbed better than dry van, or containers better than reefers. These are things you'll never find out unless you talk to other drivers. Ignore all the ads, because they all lie.
My first job, just over 3 years ago, I started off at .38 cpm. 3 months later, bumped up to .45, got my hazmat endorsement, .48 cpm. With the bonus program, I was getting about .52 cpm. Within a year I was at .62 and with the bonuses, closer to .75. not even 2 years into working there, they got me into a brand new KW. Then, Knight bought us out, and everything went south. Out of about 90 drivers, only 12-14 are still there, all the office people left, all the shop guys quit. I thought that my first job, was gonna be my forever. Not so.
Have gotten in with a company that treats me real good and the miles are awesome, and home every weekend.

0 violations, always in time. Hauling most of the time new equipment
48 CPM mileage bonus up to 4 cents. 2500 miles 52 cents. Mississippi. I have made better money outside of Mississippi but leadership was horrible. I rather take the pay cut to be treated fairly. Then I save every dollar possible for 2 years and then try again for better pay. The only thing is, if I stay conpany then have to chance the mistreatment again for a company outside of my home state of Mississippi. Cdl renewal every 5 years. I think 5 years is the best case for company then renew license for the first time and go buy a truck from a dealer. Im 3 years in on this plan. Im fine with spending my first 5 years being a trucker as a company. My 2nd 5 year license will be as an owner operator from a dealership and possibly lease the truck somewhere for an 80/20 split, preferably 85/15. I would likely do better to learn to book my own loads or just find a great dispatching company. Most important, unless im leasing a company trailer deducted from the 80/20% split, I pay to lease a trailer from a 3rd party source. Manage my 80/20 or 85/15% split and put in the work to afford myself wven more indepence and book my own loads and possibly sphere head my self to being able to buy another truck and hire a young experienced driver who is safe and loves to run and pay him or her well to make me much more money in addiction to me still operating my own 1st truck. Then scale to a fleet of 3-5 trucks for starters. 15 year plan. It could happen. Certainly easier said then done but it coupd happen.
I run local. I gave my guys the option commission, or hourly, they chose commission. I try to keep them at a minimum of 30 plus per hour when you do the math, but sometimes they are making 60 70 80 an hour if you do the math.
I also don't hual under 2 bucks a mile.
Even at 2 bucks a mile, my top driver is getting 74 cpm. So commission is not a scam

You have to go to understand for the common man here in America There is a huge huge stipulation for ownership for anything like a house a car or truck It is just a huge stipulation for the Common Man you have to really go to understand the Economic Foundation here in America It is basically how this nation ( America ) was built.. I always preferred being paid percentage, especially if the dead heading was kept to a minimum. But with the freight rates these days, I think I’d have to pass

You basically got to get your own authority then find some kind of way to pay for insurance and tags and then find a reasonably priced pretty well used new truck and take that truck to a couple mechanics and have them look underneath and under the hood especially underneath and have them check the engine these are the basic things you have to have done

The biggest scam is ET transport, this guy doesnt hire new drivers, and the new drivers have to work for those rates to get experience.

There are a lot of companies that don’t hire new drivers. It’s always been that way. Nobody should be working for mileage rates in the 40s these days. I agree with everything he’s saying in this video

I'm one of those drives who make a percentage, 22%. I'm barely making anything out here. This is my first driving job & this is what I could find with no experience. No lease agreement of any kind though.

Ronen… every business in the united states is regulated. So… when… you work at many jobs outside the industry.. which are and have been regulated.. and expect the same thing when you start your new “trucking career”.. that isnt some absurd logic. Thats consistent logic. The only way this industry is going to get fixed is with independent contractor laws.
The same laws that are and have been applied/are applied to other industries. Telling everyone to “wake up” isnt the answer. Youre asking people to have experience they will never have. They never could have.
We have companies designed to what your saying.. with “recovery drivers”…

You yourself can easily differentiate a “LP program” and how its totally different than someone buying their truck off of a private lot and leasing it onto et transport. Just like a pizza delivery driver bringing his own car to a pizza place to deliver the pizzas for them, is way different than someone working for dominos driving domino’s pizza mobile around.
If we as carriers continue paying company drivers 70-80 cents per mile at the current market, we might as well close doors. Supply and demand, if market average is $2 per mile, there is no point in rolling the wheels company drivers salary is 70-80cents/mile. I have been a carrier for 15 years and 40-45 cents sounds about right for the current market conditions.

I'm very disappointed by this video. I usually love all your content but the first part is not true. I'm a company driver, regional and flatbed. I make over a dollar every mile ON PERCENTAGE when I do the calculations. I don't know many if any flatbed companies that offer more than 80 cents per mile. Know what you're talking about before you make a video
