Also, an important point that wasn’t mentioned with face time calls is that some of them are so smart and knowledgeable with editing that they will actually take time to find a short clip from the victim they’ve stolen the pictures from and voice over it so you think they’re actually sending you a personal video…. Pay attention to the mouth and sound while listening to it because chances are it won’t match or look real… So sad! 💞

I have heard of all the reasons on many sites but I am too skeptical to be sympathetic enough to help a stranger in apparent need. I had little awareness of these romance scams until recently when my 80-year old mother told me she'd been exchanging text messages with a man she met online who claimed to be in the U.S. military in Afghanistan. He said he wanted to come back to the U.S. and take care of her, but of course he first needed her to send him some money (fortunately, she didn't). One thing I've never heard in any discussion of romance scams is the "terrifying truth". The "tt" is there isn't someone out there who thinks you're amazing inside and out; who will cure your loneliness and give you something to look forward to. There will be someone out there but they could be years away and they probably aren't gorgeous/rich/exciting. At best, it's someone in a humdrum job who has a personality that's more good than bad and looks OK.
So, when someone comes along who looks good, makes you feel good, well it feels worth the risk of thousands of dollars.

😥 I'm glad you said this...its TRUE & being a scam victim is not really about being a ridiculous idiot person to be laughed at & belittled for caring...when it comes to emotions & desire for someone to truly love us, money doesn't mean that much & most people who care would give anything to a soulmate or partner they believe in...that is what is being used against us...& keeping ourselves from bitterness is the challenge

I understand what you are saying. It seems simple enough doesn't it. Just don't give money to strangers.
The problem is many people who are victims are in a vulnerable place in their lives. This is sometimes due to cognitive challenges like dementia. Also depression caused by loneliness cause also cause someone to be vulnerable. These scammers are very smart and manipulative. They may work for months building trust and rapport with the victim convincing them that they are friends. In the victims mind they are no longer a stranger.
