20:11 Stu's "creepy face" as he's standing behind Randy and facing Billy is actually a great piece of acting by Matthew Lillard I never noticed before. It's like he knows only Billy can see him so he lets the mask drop. I wonder if that was specific direction or if that was his own interpretation. Either way, still great.
Let's give Addie a round of applause for facing her childhood trauma of Ghostface and for surviving Scream (1996). 👏👏 This is my all-time favorite horror film, alongside Halloween (1978), because of how it deconstructs the genre as a whole. That's what makes it a fun not-so-scary horror comedy in my book. Even though I've seen and enjoyed horror movies that are scarier than this one, I would STILL recommend this film series to anyone that's easing into the horror genre, without getting too scared. You should DEFINITELY continue with its five sequels. #ScreamSequelsForAddieCounts My favorite part of the movie will always be when Randy Meeks explains the rules of surviving a horror movie because you can't survive one if you don't follow the rules. I also have the blood pump Ghostface mask that you were talking about at the beginning. BTW, nice sweater. At the beginning, you listed that you hate horror movies, three times. And at 15:15-15:34, Ollie howls "Boo!", at 15:45, YEE-HAW, Addie, and at 35:45, now THAT'S an Addie scream.
Speaking of Neve Campbell, I also suggest The Craft (1996), Wild Things (1998), Three to Tango (1999) and Skyscraper (2018). #MoreNeveCampbellForAddieCounts

@@alextan1478speaking of 😂 Matthew Lillard you missed out all the other Scream movies in which he has a brief cameo, leading to the long awaited return as Ghost Face(which isn't going to happen) and a staring role in an actually quite good film 'Dead Man's Curve'.
Fun fact, Drew Barrymore was originally cast as Sydney, but she convinced Wes Craven to instead cast her as the girl that gets killed in the beginning to subvert and surprise the audience
And ultimately lost out on starring in a billion dollar franchise but I wonder if she would make the same choice if she knew the eventual box office and cult success of the sequels
@@HyperXsoduKShe actually said that she only had so much time to commit to filming so she decided it would also be really fun to not only do what the original comment said but also be a part of the film. So she got to do all that, be the opening kill, and then do the other project. She's obviously incredibly famous. I'm sure she's okay with missing out. I can't imagine the series without Neve as Sydney personally so I'm happy she did.

Yep. They still went with her at the front of all the advertising, she was only person at that time who was star (though Courteney Cox was getting there), and I remember being in the theater when she was shown hanging and the entire audience gasping in shock. Absolutely brilliant move and obviously the movie was good enough to spawn a hugely successful series.
@@joegreene7619... Putting her in all the advertising harkened back to Psycho in 1960 when Janet Leigh (mother of Jamie Lee Curtis) was promoted as being the star only to be quickly killed off in cinema's most famous shower scene 🚿 🔪😲

Really!? She could've been a scream queen herself with that set of pipes. I can't believe (I mean, I do believe, but it's just shocking) that it's her only role. She did really well as the panic-stricken mother with her very limited screen time.
Yea it's pretty odd. Not sure how she ended up with the role as it would seem she may not be an actual actress and maybe she knew Wes Craven or someone else behind the scenes. Since the role was so small, its like someone knew she could belt out a top notch scream and thought she'd be exactly what they needed for that scene
@@qp773 Wes Craven was about to kill her one day (unrelated to the movie) and when she screamed he was so impressed he decided to cast her in the role instead.
Fun fact when you were saying yeah. Look behind you at Randy. That's the joke he's saying behind you Jamie to Jamie Lee Curtis's character in the movie Halloween. Lori strode while the killers also behind him and his real name is Jamie Kennedy but much like Jamie Lee Curtis. He survives this movie

There were a couple fun cameos in this movie: the news woman who asks Sydney what it felt like to almost be butchered is Linda Blair, who played the girl in "The Excorcist," and the janitor in the school hallway dressed like Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is Wes Craven, who directed both that movie and this one. Also, uncredited as the school principal is Henry Winkler, who is legendary for playing The Fonz on "Happy Days."
I'm very much looking forward to you reacting to the sequels! You may not be looking forward to it, but I am. 😂

Hey Addie . I envy you seeing this for the 1st time, When this movie came Drew Barrymore was the biggest star in the movie , Neve.( Sydney) was still known for a TV series called Party of 5 and it shocked the audience to have a big star of Drew's status killed off at the start. The meta of Randy telling Jamie Lee Curtis Laurie to look behind her while Ghostface is behind him is the actor is Jamie Kennedy. Enjoy the series

Neve Campbell in this movie was sooo HOT and GORGEOUS. A fun fact of the movie it´s that Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey), had a romance in the real life, like in the film, and were married and had a daughter.
The school janitor "Fred" is Wes Craven himself, wearing Freddy Krueger's costume from A Nightmare on Elm Street as a little inside joke. BTW, the principal was played by Henry Winkler, who was best known for playing a kind-hearted "greaser" in the sitcom Happy Days, which was set in the 50s.
I also have to comment on how unrealistic the video delay is. I know it's for dramatic effect, but I don't see any feasible way that could happen.
The great thing about Scream was it was so self aware, in that it even though it is a serious subject it constantly refers to old Horror films and makes reference to the plot of them etc. It also spawned superb sequels, each on of them is great too and well worth a watch. You gotta do the sequels, the writing is just so clever.
matthew lillard is my favorite part of this movie, the whole movie is amazing but he's the best actor in here in my opinion, they need to cast him in more things after five nights at freddy's!!
One of the most consistent franchises in terms of quality and entertainment, horror or otherwise, sequels are worth watching.
The fact that the worst movie in this franchise is widely considered 3 and is still a good movie makes this franchise the best in the horror genre in terms of story telling and quality
You don't like "Horror Movies" maybe we can do a comedy *(Scary Movie)* which parodies *(Scream)*
But you should probably watch *(I know you did last summer)* to first

@christopherazzato7680 same. I didn't love Scream 2 as much as everyone else, but there is not a bad Scream movie, which is rare for franchises, especially for the horror variety.

Scream 1996 is an instant classic! Little fun fact - There are two main masks used throughout the entire movie, called Hero mask 1 and 2. Hero mask 1 mask was first seen in the Sidney house attack scene, and Hero mask 2 was used all throughout the final act at Stu's house. Obviously there were other reshoot masks but those were the main two
The whole Scream franchise is actually a pretty fun watch. Silly and over the top plots, self referential moments everywhere, it is popcorn cinema at it's finest.
This is one of the first things i saw "The Fonz" since "Happy Days" and i remember thinking, wow, they killed "Fonzie"
Watch Misfits of Science and Masters of the Universe and you'll see an even younger Courtney Cox.

If you don't think this is a fun game, then you're gonna hate the Saw franchise. Lol.
Imo as far as motive goes, they killed syd's mom and I think Billy got off on it and just wanted to keep that thrill. And Stu is clearly in love with Billy so he'd go along with anything that got Billy in the mood
I think *"Chucky" (Child's Play)* would be a great Horror Film, I think it'll freak you out in a couple different ways than other Horror Films

I never got this movies popularity, the acting is horrible, the plot is extremely mundane and the best part of this movie is the comedic spin offs it has created, which were much better than this in every aspect. ✌

Congrats on facing a childhood trauma, Ghostface. I can't believe that THAT is what they call that Mask. But, it is one of the most recognizable and Popular Halloween Mask, EVER. I like these movies. But this one, the first one, is the best. (IMO) Great Post, Addie. And as always, you shared this with us. The adoring viewers. Thank YOU.
This one basically resurrected the dying horror genre when it came out. It managed to make fun of the tropes of horror films and all the cliches that had killed it off... while using them in the actual horror film happening in the movie. It's extremely well done, and killing Barrymore when she was on all the marketing material, was utterly brilliant.

What I love about this Ghostface is you can tell it’s Billy talking on the phone. I know it’s a different actor talking as Ghostface, but this one sounds like some stuff Billy would say. The other GF didn’t have that but I love the whole franchise!

Drew Barrymore was originally supposed to be Sydney, but SHE suggested she be the first one killed for a more powerful impact since, at the time, she was a bigger name.

One of my friends tricked my mum into letting us rent this movie when I was about 11 or 12 - I had nightmares for ages afterwards & I hate scary movies even now! However, I can appreciate the way this one was made and how it deconstructs the genre - in reactions only, I've never rewatched it 😂
Obviously I'm sure you have movies already picked out for at least the rest of the month but if you ever have the chance, i highly recommend you watch "Scary Movie". Contrary to the name, its a comedy that parallels alot of "Scream" and "I know what you did last Summer".
Seconded. It would be worth it alone just to get to Scary Movie 2.
This movie was Wes Craven pointing a mirror back at the horror movies he helped create and inspire others to create. He did something similar around this time with his own franchise Nightmare on Elm St called New Nightmare. If you're ever brave enough to watch that you should check it out for a similar vibe to this

Random fact a lot of people missed in their first viewing: When Billy climbs into Sidney's window at the start after Drew was unalived, the song playing is a cover of Don't Fear The Reaper.
