    i absolutely love this, but can someone explain how its legal? i thought it was against FAA regulations to land in places like that, or even fly that low. unless its an ultralight, but then again, ultralights are supposed to stay away from populated areas aka towns and things like that. so once again, how is this legal? lol just curious I love these videos.

    • @HospitalHomie
      @HospitalHomie Год назад +246

      The FAA states in the FAR/AIM - 91.119 (d) (1) If the operation is conducted without hazard to persons or property on the surface - A helicopter may be operated at less than the minimums prescribed in paragraph (b) or (c) of this section, provided each person operating the helicopter complies with any routes or altitudes specifically prescribed for helicopters by the FAA. Which means as long as the pilot is not acting in a careless or reckless manor (as described in FAR 91.13) and not a direct threat to persons or property they may operate below the minimum altitudes put in place for most other aircraft. And helicopters may land anywhere as long as they have the property owners permission and there are no city/county regulations specifically forbidding it, as the FAA does not have specific regulation forbidding off airport landings like that. So as long as there are no regulations or laws forbidding it, pilot is flying in a safe manor and not putting anyone or anything at risk of harm, and can safely complete the task/landing they are attempting, and has permission to land on the property it is legal.

      @@davidblaze8847in another word, you can technically allow to land on any PUBLIC land, but there's are alot local regulations on where you can land. On private, you need permission. But other then that, theres a minimum height to fly over populated and unpopulated area.

    It depends on the airspace. Some airspace you can fly around in and just be at a certain altitude and visual flight rules, conditions conditions. VFR. There is no control tower, pilots cruise around a certain altitudes, depending on their compass, heading to avoid collisions.

  • @HyliAir
    @HyliAir 11 месяцев назад

    Rather approach over the grass area on the left instead of over the shop building and car park. Otherwise nice and safe landing and takeoff.
    Also put the groceries under left seat to keep the seat working as designed in a crash. Luggage under the pilots seat will prevent the crash resistance of the seat functioning as designed.
    Although I learnt to fly on the R22, once you used to bigger helicopters, you can’t go back. I did a Licence renewal in an R22 last year to keep the cost down and I think a student pilot would have done better than me! It’s too much of a jump from a Bell 430 to a R22.

      Yeah, there was another comment asking the same thing. And there was a reply that explains the FAA’s regulations on helicopter operation/non-airport landings. Basically, if the owner or otherwise administration of a place, private or public, gives you permission to land there, and as long as your flying does not pose any threat to people or property, you are allowed to land there.

    Thank you for the $200 dog treat trip, but please reduce the volume during the portions where the video is sped up. That was hard on my ears ;).
    Perhaps a helicopter pilot can correct me here, but while in "town" I felt that the aircraft was too low over too many buildings and populated areas to be safe in case of an engine out. Gyrocopters and powered chutes can safety stay quite low as they are basically always in glide mode, but helicopters require time and altitude to transition to auto-rotation.
    You have to breach the boundary when taking off and landing, but cruising should be done above some minimal altitude, right? Though helis can and often do cruise very low (i.e. powerline inspection, right-of-way trimming), it's not a safe flight mode as you basically give up any ability to glide or perhaps even flare. We should avoid these flight modes when practical, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong or if the altitudes flown in the video are, in fact, high enough to make a safe power-out landing.

    • @Tom-zs6bb
      @Tom-zs6bb Год назад

      Sorry, antibrevity, although you did hit on a few truths, most of your comment was wrong. Every helicopter POH includes what is call the height-velocity diagram that gives pilots guidance on the combinations of (low) altitude and airspeed. Some operations, however, require flying at altitudes lower than those allowed for fixed wing airplanes and, interestingly, pretty much all landings involve flying through the warning areas of the diagram, although due to the mechanical stresses involved, components are more likely to fail at high power/torque settings at takeoff and climb than descending and landing.
