The Doctor and River Song will always be my OTP, and in that OTP, Twelve and River reign supreme. Ten gives lover energy, Eleven is the boyfriend/newlywed, but Twelve is pure husband energy. You can tell that Capaldi was the only one of the actors who had been married for years when filming. I also love Amy and Rory's "together, or not at all" moment. And you tell the impact it has on their daughter and son-in-law. The moment the paradox comes, they reach for each other and meet it together too.
The way the Doctor reacted to Rose saying "the baby" pretty much tells you anything you needed to know about their relationship. I think if Rose HAD been pregnant rather that her mom, the Doctor would have done anything to find a way across. Than again, that might be an angle if they were to ever make a spin off about the metacrisis Doctor and Rose. What of they had a kid. Rose is the Bad Wolf(like Donna is still half timelord) even if she can't remember it. Even though he drew the energy from her, she is still effected by that part of her. And the Metacrisis Doctor is still half galifreyan.
Love the fact that there was outcry at the doctor having a love interest in the TV movie, but people were so accepting of the new series relationships. Girl in the fireplace in particular is great. I never understood the doctor should not have sex / be in love crowd. Ignoring all the fiction casting shadow on the relationship, the first doctor travelled with his granddaughter- which obviously indicates an intimate relationship. He was also attached to cameca in te aztecs, the third doctor and Jo relationship was left deliberately ambiguous, and the fourth doctor and Romana 2 were very close. Especially in meglos.
Personally, I don't disagree with the idea the Doctor can be in a relationship...
I just feel that as a literal 800-2000 year old being it's difficult to pull it off without it seeming slightly problematic...for example Rose in her twenties(?) falling in love with a being quite literally a good thirty to forty times her age.
A lot of the relationships for the Doctor, at least in the new series, seemed written to be younger love angled things, when the Doctor really isn't that young at all, and it to me didn't feel right. Especially when the show often shows that age and wear of years, it just feels like a love interest for the Doctor should be someone who's experienced almost as much as he has(another time lord for example, or someone who's lived as long as the Doctor).
I think the Doctor and River Song, particularly 12 & River but 11 too...was the best written attempt at that and the one that I was most invested in because even though River is definitely younger by far, it was the the relationship that portrayed the two at least as equals, both experienced and having been through a lot and coming together through that.

People are into shipping characters these days, but I can assure you that many of us dislike RTD dragging so much of this to the forefront.
@@samuelschuler6032 agreed, that's why Rose and Meta Crisis 10 works, is healthy, & isn't problematic, but Rose with 10 doesn't, Time Lord-human relationships just don't work because of vastly different lifespans even when appearing similarly aged, but Time Lords with other Time Lords works really well (yes, River is technically a Time Lord, considered "Proto-Time Lord" due to originally human origins)
well, in terms of 1 traveling with his granddaughter, that relationship was of two Time Lords, which makes sense, like what Samuel Schuler said, it's problematic for Time Lord-human relationships (particularly intimate ones) to exist, but it's not problematic with two Time Lords, furthermore, about generally not having sex or be in love, that's sort of a trait of Time Lords, they generally don't have sexual attraction towards non-Time Lords, and romantic attraction is rare, that's why many people including myself think the Doctor, in all regenerations, is ace/ace-spec and aro/aro-spec, the Doctor & River are really well written and their relationship is good because they're both Time Lords/Proto-Time Lords

Doctor #10 to companion: "You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of my life with you" (for obvious reasons, chief of which is that why subject The Doctor to grieve at the loss of a love when she dies multiple times. It's not fair to The Doctor, with his/her extended life span).

What about Vinder and Bel from Flux? People can say what they want about the story but they were a nice addition to the cast and had a good arc to find each other.

A kiss doesn’t make it romantic. You compiled all these clips and not a single Clara/12? Peter himself said that they had a romantic relationship. “Last Christmas” was them eloping away. The Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent trio was nothing short of enduring love on both sides. 12 didn’t spend 4.5 billion years to bring her back to life for no reason. And don’t even forget the cloister conversation that was so intimate not even the viewers heard what was said.
And no 11th Doctor/Clara either! I agree with everything you said. Steven Moffat has been saying since Clara's first season on the show that the Doctor was "besotted" with Clara, "fancied" her, etc... (he phrased it a few different ways). Moffat, also, even mentioned that the 12th Doctor saying "Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference" was his way of saying "I love you". Jenna Coleman has, also, said that she played the "I love you" in Mummy on the Orient Express as being addressed to the Doctor. Frankly, it was clear to me from "The Snowmen" that Clara was being introduced as a romantic interest. The Doctor/Clara relationship having a strong romantic undercurrent was never really meant to be a secret or even necessarily super subtle but, it's crazy how many people bend over backwards to ignore it as a significant romantic relationship on the show. Honestly, even just the moment he asks Victorian Clara to run away with him is very romantic to me.
@@SwiftFoxProductions well said! Clara split herself into a billion pieces for him and the Doctor endured billions of years for her. In the end, Clara/Doctor was never a platonic relationship
@@diamondgem2365 I agree! I definitely don’t think it was just platonic. My issue with it is saying it’s romantic almost feels like too light of a word? Like… they felt like twin flames. I don’t find romance to be all that deep most of the time, so I guess the word itself feels less epic than the relationship that they truly had.

it annoys me when shows only put focus on or celebrate couples that have an explicit love for each other or kiss, twelve and clara are one of the most beautifully written relationships i’ve seen on tv and they loved each other so much

Not me clicking to see if there’s a 12 and Clara scene but finding the Dark Water kiss instead- (assuming they meant the Twissy kiss not the hand holding with Clara)
The Husband’s of River Song moments I understand more. No offence of course no ship-hating here just my opinion that the Doctor (as 11 and 12 but I prefer 12 with Clara) showed what could be considered romantic affection to Clara and I wanted to see if their RUclips channel did too. Also I’m surprised there was no 11 and Clara moment here
11 and which Clara? I never really thought of anything with modern Clara's interactions with 11 as romantic, although the one who fought the snowmen may have had a few.
@@brentage5000 definitely Victorian Clara echo was the most flirtatious/obvious I agree. But I know there were moments between modern Clara and 11 I’d say. Haven’t rewatched S7 in a while though so can’t be specific. I’m sure if other’s read they’ll mention it
@@_MyNameIsAJ_ to be blunt the entirety of S9 (to me anyway). But as an argument even the show made 12 didn’t completely change from 11, the person who met Clara. And it can be argued he went to depths of keeping Clara more than other companions

Never realised how many (sort of) love triangles we've had, most of them haven't reflected well on the likes of Amy and Rose. I'm glad that's something they dropped. Off the top of my head:

@MultiFan All fair points, not all of them were Romantic Love, but there was definitely a pick a side situation for most of them, which didn't reflect well on whoever was making the choice.
@MultiFan amy was never abusive to rory and twelve DID love clara like that or did you just totally not understand twelve’s jealousy in s8 and their unconditional love for one another in s9 (which was literally the main plot of the season)?

@MultiFan Martha saved the day and the Doctor’s ass in nearly every single episode she was in and singlehandedly saved the entire world in the finale while the Doctor was locked in a cage and being bullied by the Master but sure, she was just that girl who had a crush on the Doctor and not one of the smartest and most capable companions the Doctor ever had, says a lot about you!
@MultiFan There’s no denying rtd handled Martha awfully, Ten’s constant brooding over rose and the cutaway shots to Martha being jealous all the time got tedious really fast and cheapened Rose’s exit, s3 is the main factor for why I dislike Ten so much but, despite there being way too much of it, Martha’s crush wasn’t her only defining trait. She was an amazingly brilliant companion who outdid the Doctor himself on a number of occasions.

HOT TAKE: Never cared for the romantic element between the Doctor and the companion. It felt unnecessary and added emotional baggage where none was needed.
The classic series survived 26 years, seven incarnations and a ton of companions before the Eighth Doctor smacked a kiss on Grace's lips back in 1996 which kick started all of this off.
I like clara and the 11th docter the most but they arent a couple I really wish they were they were sooo good together the best docter and companion and sometime almost couple
