Here's a little something I learned while talking with a Los Angeles pre-production artist on Shrek : Katzenberg hated the animated test so much, that he fired 80 people. Leaving 7 or 8 people to re-work the entire project.

@@CoreyWE It seems like whenever this story is told, people tend to paint Katzenberg as the victim. Obviously Eisner wasn't innocent, but some of Katzenberg's ideas were pretty questionable.

Especially when you think that every Kevin James appearance in a Sandler movie would have been a Chris Farley role. He could have made Chuck and Larry funny. Imagine him as Frankenstein in the Hotel Transylvania movies!
I met one of the animators that worked on this, I asked him about it and if he remembered it. He said he did. I asked about the possibility of Dreamworks ever releasing this at some point, sadly, he told me that Dreamworks considers the original version as a failure, and wouldn't want to release a failure because it'd look bad on them, as well as they having a very tight fist over what comes out of their archives, he had to do a lot of work to show us the progress of an animation clip we worked on, where Shrek is interviewed during the Oscars after Shrek 2 released
Maybe with the success of the Snyder cut, maybe they could work with the Farley estate and have his bother or maybe one of his relatives to finished recording the lines he didn’t have time to record and then finished the animation itself. Call it the Farley cut. It would be a great addition to peacock. Hell, have the hallelujah song to be on top of that too while your at it via the trailer. All in 4:3 aspect ratio and on film too!

@@Seras99 "Snyder Cut" has absolutely nothing to do with reworking an entire movie that has an entirely different story. It's not as easy as plugging in stupid celebrity CGI characters in costumes. They don't even have all the audio for his character's lines.
Chris Farley was wrong for the part. From what I heard from the clips he did it was nowhere near as good as Mike Myers. I didn't like it at all. I also believe that they wanted to get rid of Farley and use someone else. So when he called and that woman was sent over with drugs I think she was supposed to get him super wasted and release the photos to the public. That's why she took photos of him on the floor just before he died. With such bad publicity they would have been able to get out of the contract with Farley and not look bad. His drug problem was getting out of hand anyway and I think they worried about publicity problems and future movies. He was becoming a problem before the movie was even finished. I think they realized early what a huge hit Shrek would be. But it really needed someone else to polish the role and voice of Shrek, and someone more reliable and stable.
To be honest, I still think the naming of Shrek and Fiona's kids, Farkle, Fergus and Felicia, may have been a tribute to Chris. Especially since "Farley", "Farkle" and "Fergus" sound similar.

I misschris farley.
He would've been a great shrek!
I learned so much from this. I didn't know Shrek was a book
I know Loren personally. He did make the animation. He won't answer any questions. I take drum lessons from him and that's all he wants to do anymore.
Ngl i would be scared to see the original shrek as a kid
I'd love a 20th anniversary edition with a special edition full of Chris cuts and various story boards and whatever
If Shrek ever had a timey wimey film Farley Shrek should meet Myers Shrek.... maybe
I had no idea bout the star wars thing. This makes all the fans who want an original theatrical cut released even more justified, because it's literally a big deal. We may never preserve it in the library of congress if it isn't able to be done!
9:11 Actually, Jenson worked as a background painter and occasional storyboard artist for The Ren & Stimpy Show.
I hate to say this after hearing about Farley but that one woman made magic come true 👍
It makes me happy that Mike requested the removal of Chris' ties to the film, it was the right thing to do for his former colleague to avoid the whole "taking over" vibe. Im sure some people could see that as malicious but considering they worked together so often on snl they were basically friends, and it mightve hurt mike to just fill in the role that was shaped for his friend.
Sometimes you gotta trust your lead’s instincts. Every change mike myers made was for the better.
Shrek is love.
Shrek is life.
Shrek is coming with a knife.
Original Shrek isn't real, he can't hurt you:
Original Shrek:
Ong I swear that shit is the stuff of nightmares.
I just imagine a universe where Chris Farley lived on
R.I.P. Chris Farley one of my favourite actors even after death

The design for this lost Shrek movie looks more than like Shrek than the Shrek movie we actually got
This is amazing!!!! This needs to get some more attention now!!
It's never ogre
i actually have this book still from when i was a child and i thought it was wild when i first saw it YEARS ago.
Chris Farley’s shrek voice would be a great reminder to see and even foresee in a nutshell to
The parents joke is single-handedly the first (and most likely only) time a beg for subs has worked! It was cheeky! XD
Rip Chris Farley, Will be remembered forever
Imagine if they just gave up we wouldn't have the meme lord shrek
this video is very high-quality for a channel with 13k. definitely gonna blow up.

0:30 GENERAL KENOBI!
it'd be a wonderful tribute to chris farley, atleast in my mind, being the very last project that he was working out, presumably
Hey, thanks for mentioning my edit! And just for the record, it's "Spork-Ums"
'"Janeef Garatalo" and "Camrezz Diez"
"kindful"
And now Pixar and DreamWorks are back on even grounding with their movies!
I find it funny that some of the rewrites ending up making it MORE like the book.
