Good stuff! Thank you for making this module! I always fix my son's foils so it's not hard for me to understand the foil part of this video. I still need to think through the epee part though.

Thank you for the comment. That will help our foil or epee only referees!

Hello, Lisa! When testing the three-prong that would be connected to the reel, how are we pressing the quarter to the prongs? I certainly know we are not unplugging it from the reel, so I imagine we are unlatching it and pulling it out just enough to make contact. Is this correct? Thanks in advance; and thank you for all of the videos you have produced. I have found each and every one supremely helpful!

+Max Levesque Perfect, you understood! I have some added details if you watch these modules via a regular computer and not on a mobile device. You pull out the cord just enough to get the quarter to touch the two prongs you need. Thank you for the question! Keep them coming!

Very helpful stuff. Maybe you could do a follow up video to relate different faults to how the do, or do not, annul a touch scored?
One fault type you didn't mention is where the touches from both sides interact. It happened to me that a box was faulty and didn't "fix" a light from my opponent when I made a concurrent touch. I had about five hits where it seemed I was a stop hit genius. One light for me and then my opponent would test and his light came up fine. Neither he nor the referee thought to ask me to test concurrently. Is it the referee's or the fencer's responsibility to ask for or conduct such a test? (Do modern boxes still have the possibility of this type of fault? This happened to me years ago but I recently saw it was one of the situations covered in the rules.)

+Alexander Stoddard , I think you are right, that I might need to make some more troubleshooting videos. This one was not exhaustive. And you are quite right, I did not talk about annulments....... YET! I certainly will.

It has always baffled me in this day and that the FOC doesn't produced a videos to depict penalty calls ROW calls and floor hits in Epee..

+Anthony Alvarez I agree, my learning modules are trying to fill a gap in the curriculum. I plan to do learning modules that are weapon specific and touch upon the hows and whys of refereeing each discipline. Thank you for the comments.

Is sabre strip troubleshooting more similar to foil or to epee? AFAIK, Sabre uses the same type of body cord as foil.

Honestly, when I am completely confused in Sabre, I switch it to foil and then figure out it is almost always the body cord. lol. You can take the skinny pin and see if it works to get a light on if you put it directly on the lame. The close outs for behind will still tell you if the problem is behind or ahead. Thank you for your comment. I just posted one about epee a few weeks ago. Enjoy! And keep getting better!
