  • Before an epee bout can even begin the referee needs to test the fencer’s epee. How does the referee test the epee? What things are referees looking for?

      Yes and no. The stakes are much higher if you mess up a call in epee. People expect perfection. Glad you liked the video. Thank you for watching.

    You don't look for the FIE stamp on the blade?

      That is an excellent point. In the USA, we don't require the FIE stamp. If there is a full weapons control like at a World Cup or World Championships or Zonal, then I would check for the sticker, stamp or mark on the blade. Great comment. YES!!! If at that level, I would add looking for the FIE stamp on the blade. Thank you!
